It’s interesting how when you flip the center of this song to male, slow it down, and recognize the dichotomy that’s brought into feminist rhetorical structures, men are often judged by how they choose to have fun. The recognition that many men enjoy this song in secret, both now and back when it was released, makes questioning how male (identified since birth) operate alongside the structures many argue were made for them. I should start writing about this, though I don’t think many would listen because of my status as a straight white cis-mainly heterosexual male
Unfortunately this world doesn’t give us the freedom to explore ourselves fully without judgement. Some people say you shouldn’t care what others think but those people aren’t judged the same way.
