You can use steel or aluminum hooks. Aluminum hooks are less weight compared to steel hooks

No, gulera 3ply is very good, soft and comfortable. I have made the poncho that you can see on my RUclips profile pic. It's actually cool and nice

6ply chain let cotton will be thick and little rough. Since it's chain let, yarn has beautiful texture. I would not prefer to use that yarn for baby projects and other wearable projects.
