In my opinion that was one of the single best comments on Gloomhaven in general. It immediately removed so much pressure from me. Unbelievable. Thanks Rodney!
We're just about to start scenario 3 having bought JotL a few weeks ago. I have to say, these videos are GOLD in letting us spend more time playing and less time figuring things out. I couldn't imagine playing more complex games like this without these videos (and Rodney, you rock as a presenter!)
I'd say there is no one better than this guy in explaining the rules. Immaculate detail and without wasting any unnecessary time. Right to the point. Nice
I'm so glad Rodney team up with the creator (or publisher?) to teach people how to play. Watching each video before playing the next scenario is such a treat. Having a lot of fun discovering universe, and i'm sure these tutorials are part of the reason why !
Amazing series. I’m working through this with my kids and it’s the first time we’ve ever enjoyed one of these tabletop games together. Your instructions are flawless.
Love how you wear a different shirt in each of the different videos for Jaws of the Lion - if I wouldn't remember if I have already seen part 3 I could tell by the shirt! Nice choice btw!
Ha, you have no idea how much this comment pleases me. That is precisely why I decided to go with a new shirt for each episode of this - I hoped it would be a visual clue for whether or not the viewer had seen it already :) Glad it worked!
Whenever I pick up a new board game - regardless of whether I read the rules or not, this is the first place I stop. Your content is amazing man. Everything is clear and concise. The visuals overlays are neatly done. Even the card placement is neat and laid out professionally. Ex: I see equipment under the character sheet, I noticed they’re tapped when your discussing long rest, I know it’s going to be covered. Everything is covered. Clearly. In 16 minutes. Awesome stuff.
One of my favourite things now is watching 'how it's played' on your videos, then switching over to Adam (RollingSolo) for a longer playthrough. This has worked brilliantly for me recently with Jaws of the Lion (pre-ordered for my birthday in September!) and with 7th Continent (just got the new 'Classic' box) and I'm discovering new games all the time. Thanks for all you (and Adam) do for the community. Take care.
Thanks again. I hope you know how much everyone appreciates the effort you put into these tutorials. You’re a great help, you explain everything very well, in a concise, clear, and very professional manner. Keep it going.
This game would be so much more difficult to figure out without these wonderful videos. I watched this video a few days ago, and came back today because I had forgotten the meaning of some card symbols. Watch iIt Played to the rescue! Now, on with the game!
Thanks. Nice video. Especially appreciate how you subdivide the video into the different sections, so we can just go to the section we need clarification on. I would HIGHLY appreciate you do some "How to Play" videos on some of the harder games...like Mage Knight, KDM, Planet Apocalypse, Anachrony. Your videos are saved and helpful. Glad the manufacturers see the benefits of your videos, and use/pay you to explain their games. Keep up the good work. I'm heading to part 4 of this series, as I am watching your videos and physically learning to play the board game at the same time.
Thank you Rodney for making these. In a way I wish every board game had videos like this and I love that you are in a way making that a reality! But I have to say at this point in the game I am too overwhelmed by the game and refuse to continue. I was playing as a solo player and it's just too much for me to handle. I love the foundation of the game, but man does it have a lot going on! Demeo is more my speed and it's not that far off from Gloomhaven at all! Just a considerably slimmed down version of the game in a way. Thank you!
I’ve always wondered, doesn’t it make more sense for the Poison and Wound status effects to be switched? Poison damages over time and Wound adds additional damage when attacked.
These videos are super helpful for us noobs. My girlfriend and I played the first two scenarios today and had a blast. Can't wait to play scenario 3 soon!
Hey, thanks for such a great video series. Could you clarify though - you say that each movement in difficult terrain takes 2 move actions; but the how to play book says it only takes two to “enter” difficult terrain. Your way makes more sense to me, but confirmation/explanation would be much appreciated.
I think I see what you're getting at with the rule book wording, but it's implying the same thing really. Even if two spaces of difficult terrain are side by side, the rule book is still considering that you're "entering" difficult terrain when you leave one difficult terrain space and go to another one. That said, I can confirm that this is what they intended (we work with the publisher directly on our tutorial videos). Happy adventuring!
@@WatchItPlayed gotcha. I was thinking it meant entering the terrain as in just the first move to cross the “border” between normal & difficult terrains. Your way makes much more sense - guess I’ll be replaying scenario 3 today! Cheers for the speedy reply. :)
Thanks again. I just wish I had watched this BEFORE playing #3. I had only watched the first two videos, but we were really excited and decided to try the third scenario anyway. Needless to say we screwed up royally and will go through it again next Board Game Friday. Lol. Keep it up! You rock!
Your videos have definitely made this game much more approachable for me! Great job as always! By the way, I recently wrote a blog about the dreaded Shelf of Shame, and totally linked your channel when discussing being intimidated by a game.
Oh Rodney, do you have a video with a ruleset for life itself? You just make everything sound so clear! Love this series! I predict this game will introduce a deck of cards with random background noises next! There's a lot of cards in this! XD I was also asking myself, have you ever considered making videos about RPG rulesets or is it too much out of your element? A lot of people are scared to approach RPGs because of how massive some of them are. I'm just saying it would be nice for new players to have you on their side! The only problem would be finding you something to flip!
Hi Rodney, I've been a big fan of your work for a good few years and once again you don't disappoint. Just to clarify a point, if you start your move on difficult terrain and the next hex is normal terrain, you only spend one movement point - is that correct?
This is great Rodney! I might even use your tutorials as a way to skip out on the first 5 scenarios. They’re amazing for learning but a bit tedious to go through the motions. I can’t wait to get into the game proper!
It wouldn't be too difficult to advance your characters to that stage if you wanted. Scenario 4 and 5 put up a good challenge. You might even want to jump in there if you were planning on skipping the first couple.
Hey Rodney, more great videos as always, I got JotL over Christmas and just getting into it with your help. One question that this scenario prompted - when the giant viper draws an Attack -1 card, (which reduces it's basic Attack of 2 to 1) and then draws a -1 modifier (totally 0) does it still inflict poison, or is the attack a total failure?
I don’t understand stun. When it says ‘creature is stunned until end of its next turn’ what happens if I go first in initiative, stun a creature, then the creature goes? Wouldn’t the stun come off immediately after it’s turn is over? This would be ‘its next turn.’ Some people say “no. The stun comes off after its next turn’ meaning the creature is stunned for two turns.
I'm guessing you're Steve, as I saw you asked this question on BGG too? boardgamegeek.com/thread/2495992/please-explain-stun So hopefully you're good now. Cheers!
Issac Childres has said on bgg for original GH “The last hex of a jump is normal movement, so it would require 2 movement points to enter difficult terrain with that movement” which I believe is not what’s said in the video. Is this different for JotL?
I can't speak to the way it's played in the original Gloomhaven, as there are some differences, but I can say that what we have here is how it works for JotL.
Great stuff. Confused about blessing/curse setup. All characters add 1 blessing and 1 curse card to their modifier deck? As well a 1 blessing and 1 curse card to monster modifier deck at the beginning of set up for scenario 3? If so what happens to the remaing 9(?) cards for each respective deck?
@WatchItPlayed ah I misunderstood the rule. 'Bless' and 'curse' seem to a card effect of either character or monsters. However I thought all modifier decks needed to be prepared at set up.
When resolving curse or bless... Do you add them into the relevant deck and shuffle the entire thing, or do you add them into the remaining (non-discarded) portion of the deck and shuffle those cards?
For an active card, if you trigger the ability multiple times, do you get the experience points each time or only when you first played the card (and activate some part of the ability)? For example, Hatchet's Favorite card's top ability can be activated multiple times in a scenario; 2VP/activation or 2VP only when played? Thanks for the video.
Great videos Rodny, so enterntaining an easy to undertand. One question, you can apply a condition to a monster even if you miss the attack, the same viceversa? Thanks for you help
Conditions may be applied as their own ability or as the effect of an attack. Even if an attack does no damage, conditions are still applied. Hope that helps!
Your videos are so useful as they are both concise and complete. One thing still confuses me though... What happens when I have an active card above my character pad but then have to have a short break because I ran out of cards? Do I just leave it there and shuffle the (smaller) discard pile and discard a card? If that is the case then I am guessing I also have the OPTION to return the active card before the shuffle (assuming it does not say to lose it after use) if I no longer want its effect?
So, if you’ve used the last of the cards in your hand, are you able to long rest on your next turn, or are you forced into a short rest? These videos are so helpful. Thank you!
@@WatchItPlayed thank you so much! Again, your videos have been invaluable; I know they’re sponsored, but I appreciate all the work you’ve put into these.
Question on the Voidwarden card, Master Influence. It is a persistent and also includes an experience bonus. Does the player get the experience just the one time that the card is played, or every time the effect of the card is triggered (ie, every time the voidwarden compels an action)?
I do by best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Thank you so much for the video serie, I have a question concerning Card 151 - At the start of your next five turns, perform a Curse, Range 2 action. If I understand Correctly, I can ONLY add a Curse Card to the monster deck when I have a monster in Range 2. Do I advance my marker if I have no monster in Range 2 ? This card is confusing me... Hi Rodney, I have a query regarding persistence cards with initiative stage. Even if I select any persistence card, am I allowed to pull two cards during the next initiative phase or card selection phase with the persistence card still showing active. Or can I only pick up on initiative card next round with the persistence card as the 2nd card for action? Sorry for my confused query, hope I made myself understand ☺️
I actually don't understand the question, but that could be in part because I shot these videos long enough ago not to remember. I really do my best to answer all rules questions I get, but I lent my copy of this game to a friend, so I can't easily look up what you're proposing. For this, you might find it quicker to as this question on the forums of BoardGameGeek where you are likely to find people currently playing the game. Sorry I couldn't help more.
Great video in this series, as always. Just a clarification from yourself or a fellow comments reader, please. We've just completed scenario 3. Do we draw a City Event now and resolve it before the 4th scenario? Or do we from now on draw and resolve a City Event card from future completed scenarios (scenario 4 onwards)? The rule book explanation is open to interpretation I feel. Watching your video suggested to me that we do draw a City Event card and resolve it after scenario 3 and before scenario 4 starts. Any help/clarification would be much appreciated. Cheers.
Rodney, many thanks for the cool videos! I was wondering what the rules are for difficult terrains. The rulebook says you need two moves only to "Enter" a difficult terrain, but not once you enter, you can move inside the difficult terrain like normal movement and also move out of it using one move only? Isn't that correct?
Each separate space of difficult terrain still counts as difficult terrain, so moving from one difficult terrain to an adjacent difficult terrain is still "entering" difficult terrain. Hope that helps!
@@WatchItPlayed Many thanks for the clairification. I would also like to request you to do a video on how to play Spirit Island. Your videos are amazing and they make us enjoy the games more.
With Hatchets Favorite card do you get the 2 xp just once or every time you pick the token up again and put it on a new monster? that was the only part i wasn't sure of when i played this scenario?
Just the once! If the XP was written into a specific part of the action, than it could potentially trigger each time that "part" resolved. Hope that helps!
@@GeekCroftGamers Yeah, I likely picked a number to write in there, without considering all the cards - and I don't recall if any give a single XP from that deck.
I hope someone watching this can answer a question for me about the "favorite" ability. Do you only get the token to drop from the monster if the ability kills it the moment it is used or does it drop no matter what kills the monster and no matter when it dies? I hope you get what i mean. Sorry if my english is a bit off :)

Just a quick question on gaining experience. When hatchet plays his “The favourite” ability since it’s persistent will he gain 2 experience only at the start for activating it or 2 experience every time he uses the ability during a scenario once he has retrieved his token back?
Do the snakes apply their Poison before their attack lands? They have 1 damage by default, and apply poison, so do they effectively have 2 attack on the first turn? Thank you for the videos!

@@WatchItPlayed Fair enough! I don't understand the ordering of Condition application when an enemy attacks. I'll respond later once I find out, thank you!
From a FAQ on Board Game Geeks: > If I apply POISON with my attack, does it immediately give me +1 on the attack? *No*. All added effects of an attack are only applied after the amount of damage is resolved. The one exception to this is PIERCE, which is applied at the same time as the damage. Thanks again Watch It Played, love the guide, and enjoyed the Scythe one too!
Hey Rodney. Long time watcher, first time commenter. 😆 So I watched the video, read the guide, searched the glossary, and even the internet and can’t seem to find the answer to this question: Does your XP dial reset at the end of each scenario? Thanks Rodney!
1) If I play the top half of a persistent card to my active area, am I locked in to using that top half? Example: demo's Windup card. Both halves are persistent. Is the bottom half off limits once I commit to the top? And... 2) Is there a limit to the number or persistent abilities I can have active at any given time? The ones that don't have a lost symbol that last til the end of the scenario, it says you can remove it any time, but why would you want to?
1) You pick one half, and ignore the other. 2) There is no limit to persistent effects. Your other question regarding the "why" I can't really say for sure. I imagine it's situational.
Thanks for the great videos, Rodney. Those are super helpful as I am diving into JotL. Quick question on long rest: Can I declare a long rest if I have only one action card on my hand or is this „forcing“ me to take a short rest?
@@WatchItPlayed Can you start a turn with only 1 card in your hand? Also when were talking about healing resolving both poison and wound conditions at the same time, can't you only jave 1 condition at a time? Cheers 🍻
With the favorite card. If it is in your active slot and you have already thrown the axe. Can you on your next turn or anytime there axe icon is not on the card use the bottom portion of the card since you aren't using the top portion in that round? Any info would be much appreciated
Although it is in your active slot, and "in play", you don't treat it as one of your 2 played cards for a turn - so you don't have access to it's bottom portion when playing your two cards. Hope that makes sense.
not sure if I missed something in previous or this video. If the monster is to be moved and there is a tie in which character to attack, how is it solved? (Example: two characters stand 3 hex's away from a monster in the middle. The monster has a move of 1 and a range of 2. It has to move left or right to reach either of us.) If I recommend to move the monster towards the other players character as mine has already more wounds than his, is this a legal move? Would a monster protect the weak to help winning the scenario? :)
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
It sounds like you might have made a mistake after game 1. You may want to re-watch the end of the Part 1 video where it talk about how to update your deck (you may have just added new cards, when you were supposed to replace cards).
Hello. Thanks a lot for the video. About "The Favorite" card, when do we get the 2 XP? Also, do we add +3 befor or after drawing the small modifier card? It makes a big difference. Thanks!
I do by best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. Hopefully somebody can answer this question. It's mentioned bless and curse cards are removed from the player deck if they are earned after a scenario ends. How does this work for ones earned from city events? Do they also get removed after the next scenario? Thanks in advance
Hi Rodney. Wifey and I just lost a scenario where wifey (voidwarden) played the Turn Out the Lights card, which reads "Force one enemy within range 3 to perform attack 3, range 3... The acting enemy suffers damage equal to the damage suffered by the target." We drew from the MONSTERS' attack modifier deck, and got a curse card (keep in mind it was Voidwarden who cursed the monsters!). As a result the enemies suffered no damage, and we ended up losing. Had we gotten a +0, one monster would have died and the other likely would have died on the next turn and we could have ended up winning the scenario. Did we play this right? when making other figures attack for her, Is voidwarden always supposed to draw from that figure's mod deck unless the card says otherwise?

What happens if I play the swift strength with the intention of using the shield ability, but the monsters end up having lower initiative value? They attack first before I even have a chance to use my shield. Is that right? Seems unfair. I lose my shield ability.
I love your videos Rodney. A question. When activate "The Favorite" card for the Hatcher. How many times per scenario I can claim those "2 XP"? Every time that the monster dies with the token on it? Or when I loot my own token? Cheers!
Hi! Hopefully someone can clarify the jump effect. I thought we cleared the actions on the card top to bottom - so one would move x then jump. Can we jump as our moves if a card has that on it?
Hi Brandi, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your question (it can be hard sometimes when we're not looking at the same card together). Do you have a time stamp from the video where a card like that is showing, that you are asking about?
@@bv22760 Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for (look for the section called Jump Effect).
Can't seem to find an answer to clarification on the difficult terrain hexes. If it takes 2 moves points to enter a Difficult Terrain space, does that mean I cannot enter if that space is the last space on my move turn? For example I move 4 spaces, and the 4th is Difficult Terrain. Do I have to wait until the next move action to enter it? Or am I ok to end my move action on that space? I'm pretty clear on what happens once I'm in those spaces, I need 2 move points to get through each one. I did read that exiting only counts as one if you are exiting out of one of those spaces on a turn. Any help here is appreciated.
If you have a move of 4 and already moved into 3 regular spaces, and the last space you want to go into would cost you 2 movement points, you cannot enter it, because you only have 1 move left. Hope that helps!
Is it possible to play with different groups? Do you have any hints to track progress, or is the game just designed to play with the same players everytime?
It would be difficult to play with different groups simultaneously, but Part 5 has reference to how you can add or drop people from a campaign in progress.
from my understanding, if the player who had the treasure chest died, the treasure is pass on to remaining player to share. In a 2 player game, the choice is obvious, but with a 4-player game, I assume that item if not gold will be shared in different scenario, other than the 1 who died. Am I right about this? I also understand that once I've completed the scenario, I'll swap out Card I to replace with A&B. In the event of re-attempt scenario3, do I use card I ability because I've earned it or I've to use card A and B and 2 card I? A retry scenario if the chest has been claimed and if the chest is an item, then it will be invalid, how about chest with gold coin, do we still place them? A retry of scenario, player who had completed who wish to party the one who didn't get the earn the 6points from scenario3 again? I guess the answer is yes as we grind our level from all RPG games
Hi Rayn, on the first question I'm not quite sure what you're asking (there might be a slight language barrier affecting my understanding of the question). When you complete a scenario, and have upgraded your deck, you would keep the upgraded cards if you chose to replay the scenario again. Gold would still be placed in a retry (as I understand it). I'm actually not sure of the answer on your last question. Good question...
@@WatchItPlayed during scenario 3. Player A gotten the chest but died, Player B complete the mission. From my understanding in this case player B will get the chest

activated ability cards act as a 3rd move or a bonus after the initial round it is played? I played it for damage, now on the next round I have 2 new cards, but can use the activation card with them correct?
I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what you're asking - can you include more details about what your question is driving at. I make a lot of videos, so it helps to get lots of context, since I shot this one quite awhile ago.
Yes, poison is still applied in both cases. The null card isn't really a miss. It represents a "does no damage". Think a sword grazing armor. As long as attack is listed on the monster initiative card, the monster attacks and applies the listed conditions.
Related question: Does the extra damage from the poison happen when the poison condition is applied, or is it just applied on the attack and then the next attack has extra damage?
I found the answer to my question here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2503355/article/36060945#36060945 Short answer: the extra damage from the poison will be applied on the next attack. The attack where the poison condition is applied does not suffer the extra damage.
The event should instruct how to resolve it - for example, in the event shown in this video is says that "each" player resolves the effect. Hope that helps and happy adventuring!
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the videos, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for. This question is answered in Part 1 of the series.
If you mean the situation when the top or bottom half of the card includes two actions separated by a dotted line... I am pretty sure the instructions tell you that you do both in that order BUT you still retain the right to skip any action eg if it says attack an adjacent enemy then move (up) three hexes away you could attack then stay where you are or could just move (up to) three hexes without attacking. What you cannot do is swap the two eg move first then attack.
We played this last night. I realized this morning, though, that we forgot to read the section break when we opened the 2nd door. Did we miss anything important? Can we do anything to correct this?
@@grrtiger9481 You're getting just a little ahead of yourself there. Scenario "levels" are introduced later. At this point, your scenario level hasn't changed yet (those rules are discussed later). For now you keep the damage values as you see here in the video. Hope that helps!

Awesome as always. Played the first 2 scenarios this weekend with my wife. Just loved it!! Such a great game. Can't wait for S3. Cheers.
Very glad you had fun playing :)
JOTL is great! Wifey and I love it. We honestly couldn’t have gotten into it without this video series. Thanks!
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you for resolving several ambiguous rules in this scenario for me. I'll now come straight to you instead of scouring forums and guides.
So nice to know it was helpful - have fun adventuring!
Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words - and hey, glad you were able to figure out if this game was for you or not.
The box has not arrived yet, but I take genuine pleasure in watching your videos. Thanks!
I hope you have a great time playing!
Decided to actually buy the game, I was wrong, it is amazing :D!!!! Thanks for the let's play, it really helped substantially :D
So glad to know it was helpful and that you're having fun!
Dude you have the best job. Your channel is even on the game's paper instructions! Teach me your ways haha
I feel very fortunate to be able to do this!
I’ve always wondered, doesn’t it make more sense for the Poison and Wound status effects to be switched? Poison damages over time and Wound adds additional damage when attacked.
You won't get any argument from me :)
My son’s comments too 👍
Actually wound is like bleeding effect, imagine it like loosing blood every round as time goes by :)
Yeah it makes more sense in Slay the Spire, where Poison is applied at the start of their turn.
Can't wait to play this. Just have to wait for a release in europe.
Hopefully not too long of a wait!
the presentation on this video is outstanding. good job buds
Thanks Henry!
These videos are super helpful for us noobs. My girlfriend and I played the first two scenarios today and had a blast. Can't wait to play scenario 3 soon!
Hey, so glad they helped, even happier that you had fun playing!
Every video just makes me excited to play more!
I hope you have a great time adventuring!
Lol. Keep it up! You rock!
Very glad this helped clear up a few things :)
Perfect how to play for a amazing game! Thank you for your time and effort on this!
You're very welcome - glad you liked it!
Your videos have definitely made this game much more approachable for me! Great job as always! By the way, I recently wrote a blog about the dreaded Shelf of Shame, and totally linked your channel when discussing being intimidated by a game.
Thanks for the shout out :)

Thanks for making gaming easier for the rest of us.
So glad you enjoyed! Have fun playing.
Oh Rodney, do you have a video with a ruleset for life itself? You just make everything sound so clear!
Love this series! I predict this game will introduce a deck of cards with random background noises next! There's a lot of cards in this! XD
I was also asking myself, have you ever considered making videos about RPG rulesets or is it too much out of your element? A lot of people are scared to approach RPGs because of how massive some of them are. I'm just saying it would be nice for new players to have you on their side! The only problem would be finding you something to flip!
I'd like to cover an RPG at some point, but currently board games take up all my time, and I find more opportunities to play them than RPGs.
Thanks for the series Rodney, it helps alot in understanding how to play. You are Da Man!
You're very welcome Kim!
Hi Rodney, I've been a big fan of your work for a good few years and once again you don't disappoint. Just to clarify a point, if you start your move on difficult terrain and the next hex is normal terrain, you only spend one movement point - is that correct?
You've got it!
Watch It Played ok that’s good to hear. I’ve gone through 1 and 2 so I suppose I’ll just continue. It really is great for learning. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial as always. This make it so much easier to get started. Question- At 5:00 can you uset the +2 on the same turn you play the card?
If you attacked afterwards on that turn, yep!
you're the best Rodney!! Having a blast with this game and your videos helped alot!
So glad you're enjoying, Ernest :)
Great post. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
The wait for this part about killed me lol
Next one coming soon too (I hope!)
Hey Asa, attack effects are applied regardless of whether the corresponding attack does damage.
I'm guessing you're Steve, as I saw you asked this question on BGG too? boardgamegeek.com/thread/2495992/please-explain-stun
So hopefully you're good now. Cheers!
Issac Childres has said on bgg for original GH “The last hex of a jump is normal movement, so it would require 2 movement points to enter difficult terrain with that movement” which I believe is not what’s said in the video. Is this different for JotL?
This is also my interpretation of the rule. Well technically Issac's.
I shot this long enough ago, do you have a time stamp for the section of the video you are asking about?
@WatchItPlayed ah I misunderstood the rule. 'Bless' and 'curse' seem to a card effect of either character or monsters. However I thought all modifier decks needed to be prepared at set up.
When resolving curse or bless... Do you add them into the relevant deck and shuffle the entire thing, or do you add them into the remaining (non-discarded) portion of the deck and shuffle those cards?
The remaining non-discarded portion of the deck.
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you! Love the videos!
For the Favorite, you get that XP just when the card is played (not each time the effect is used).
Thank you for the videos! Very clear and concise
You're welcome - have fun playing!
Correct!
So, if you’ve used the last of the cards in your hand, are you able to long rest on your next turn, or are you forced into a short rest? These videos are so helpful. Thank you!
A long rest is declared by a character during the card selection portion of a round, so you can still do it at that time.

Do I advance my marker if I have no monster in Range 2 ?

Even if I select any persistence card, am I allowed to pull two cards during the next initiative phase or card selection phase with the persistence card still showing active. Or can I only pick up on initiative card next round with the persistence card as the 2nd card for action? Sorry for my confused query, hope I made myself understand ☺️

Cheers.
Yep, you draw it at the end of Scenario 3.
@@WatchItPlayed Cheers Rodney 👍
Nobel Prize for Rodney. You are boardgame priest.

Just a quick question on gaining experience. When hatchet plays his “The favourite” ability since it’s persistent will he gain 2 experience only at the start for activating it or 2 experience every time he uses the ability during a scenario once he has retrieved his token back?
Only when he plays that card from his hand does he get the 2XP.
When it says heal an ally, does that mean you cannot heal yourself?

I'll respond later once I find out, thank you!
From a FAQ on Board Game Geeks:
> If I apply POISON with my attack, does it immediately give me +1 on the attack?
*No*. All added effects of an attack are only applied after the amount of damage is resolved. The one exception to this is PIERCE, which is applied at the same time as the damage.

Hey Rodney. Long time watcher, first time commenter. 😆
So I watched the video, read the guide, searched the glossary, and even the internet and can’t seem to find the answer to this question: Does your XP dial reset at the end of each scenario?
Thanks Rodney!
It does! You record your XP at the end of a successful mission and then reset your dial.
Awesome. Thanks!
Ah... So if you fail the mission don't reset the xp, but add on new xp and reset once you succeed.
If it's the start of your turn and you have only 1 card, you can still declare a long rest.

Hopefully somebody can answer this question. It's mentioned bless and curse cards are removed from the player deck if they are earned after a scenario ends. How does this work for ones earned from city events? Do they also get removed after the next scenario? Thanks in advance
That is my understanding, as the rules don't suggest they should be treated differently from other bless and curse cards.

If you have a active card on the board, do you play both cards in your hand or just 1 and the active?
You still play 2 cards from your hand each turn.
Hello, thanks for this great video. Question, when you disarm a monster, do they still apt their condition (poison or curse) when they attack you?
If the condition is nested with a smaller font, it is part of the attack and not applied if the monster is disarmed.
Amazing explanations, will you be doing gameplay videos for this?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
Well I hope everything goes well and we can have them
For that city event do u keep the curse for rest of game , or just until end of next scenario?
If I don't say it ends at the next scenario, then it persists (unless the effect says otherwise).
When performing Long rest, does it get rid of “poison” and be able to to do 2 heal?
It would get rid of the poison, but doesn't gain the 2 points of healing.
Do conditions apply (like poison) even if the attack dealt 0 dmg? (due to either shields or negative battle cards)
They do!
What happens if I play the swift strength with the intention of using the shield ability, but the monsters end up having lower initiative value? They attack first before I even have a chance to use my shield. Is that right? Seems unfair. I lose my shield ability.
That's right. You're in a fight to death, the monsters aren't going to play fair :)

Watch It Played perfect, thank you!

I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what you're asking - can you include more details about what your question is driving at. I make a lot of videos, so it helps to get lots of context, since I shot this one quite awhile ago.
Can you have more than one bonus card active at the same time
Hey Elliot, it's been awhile since I shot this, but if the video doesn't say you're limited to one, then you are not limited to one.
Thank you very much.
If a monster with poison misses the attack, is the poison still applied. What if the attack strength is zero, is poison applied then?
Yes, poison is still applied in both cases. The null card isn't really a miss. It represents a "does no damage". Think a sword grazing armor. As long as attack is listed on the monster initiative card, the monster attacks and applies the listed conditions.
Status effects are always applied regardless of the modifier outcome. Even with a starting strength of zero.
Related question: Does the extra damage from the poison happen when the poison condition is applied, or is it just applied on the attack and then the next attack has extra damage?
I found the answer to my question here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2503355/article/36060945#36060945
Short answer: the extra damage from the poison will be applied on the next attack. The attack where the poison condition is applied does not suffer the extra damage.
Hello, when resolving the event at the end of the scenario, do both players receive the reward (ex. gain 5 gold)? Thank you!

The damage would be what is shown in the video. Was there a reason you thought it might be different?
@@WatchItPlayed in the glossary under trap it says “indicates the trap will cause a figure to suffer damage equal to the scenario level plus 2”
