There's a very beautiful 3rd "secret canyon" south of the old access road, once you get to the bottom.

Absolutely, that one is my favorite. I have it filmed with heavy water flow, but waiting to get some more waterfall footage before releasing. Thanks for watching!

Around 15 years ago I first hiked it in February. It was very cold and snowy. I accessed it from the top by going into to ravine south of the restrooms by the parking lot, and following the creek until I got to the canyon. It was enthralling to see its meager beginnings on top expand into such an amazing feature! The snow on the ground added some visual drama and the waterfalls were frozen into beautiful forms. I have a couple nice shots of it all and going there made for an awesome memory.

And, my slip count was probably around 50! Lol. Those waterfalls were dicey to negotiate

Oh Wow! Going down in the snow would be tricky. I’ve always come from the bottom up and then headed to the old road to the left to go out. I swore last time when the water was rolling that I would never hike it again by myself. As you know it is by far the most dramatic of the little canyons.

I would image that slip count was astronomical with snow lol

Holy crap you found the hill in Illinois!!!
Just joking, I'm in the Missouri Ozarks, I am legally required to make fun of Illinois. That is a gorgeous area

Yes, it is surprising! Love the Ozarks, too. It is a great area to explore.

Nice I enjoyed this. What are my odds of seeing a snake or anything else cool in say March, April or May here at LGC?

Thank You! Depends, if you stick to the official trail on the other side of the bluff, you may not see any. If you go off-trail like in this video there is a much higher probability. I’ve been told they like the south area of the bluff. They do like to hang out near rocks and crevices. Like I mentioned in the video, I personally do not go back here during those times.

did you go down Forest Road 351? I’ve been meaning to check that out for a while and after seeing this, I think that’ll be my next hike.

Yes, that's the "road". It's a beautiful area and one that is off the beaten path. Be safe and thanks for watching!

Milkcrates were less weird than the ladder. Was that a deer stand?

lol - What’s bad is I was filming and never saw it there until I edited the video.

Great video, Gary. Just guessing that some unknown person or persons have been doing a bit of illegal relic digging. Those milk crates look like they are used for sifting. It looks like somebody has been digging there.

Thank You! I hadn’t thought of that, but that’s exactly what it looks like.
