Maha Shivaratri is a fast for Lord Shiva celebrated by Hindus. This fast is celebrated annually on the night of Krishnapatcha (Teiparai) Chaturthasi tithi in the month of Masi.
Every month Teipira Chaturthasi night is Shivratri. Many Sivanadiyars are also observing this Shivratri regularly every month.
Observers of Vratam (fasting) should eat one meal on the first day, fast on Shivratri, bathe in the morning and keep their eyes awake with the thought of Shiva and perform four yama worship. The next morning one should visit Tirthamadi, have darshan of Swami and have a meal with the servants and complete the fast.
