Regarding why the writing is so good, you are correct. Theater is an actor's medium, film is a director's medium, and TV is a writer's medium. In each instance, those roles have the most influence on the final product.
I knew about Stormfront already so I was surprised that they're in the show, then confused why they're live streaming, then thought she just had an unfortunate name. She even fooled me more when she referenced Pipi Longstockings. Then Stormfront did Stormfront things a few episodes later and I was like "Oh... Oooooohhhh....". x) The writers definitely got me good there, even if a little different than most people. I'm surprised to see that almost no one seems to know about Stormfront though. It's kinda scary because she does the same thing that Neonazis nowadays do with social media propaganda.
I feel like Homelander does love his son but out of a purely egotistical way. He wants to be loved so badly, which is understandable given that he was literally made in a lab and his desire to be loved is the only thing keeping his evil, power hungry cruelty at bay at first. Madeline did a good job at taking advantage of his need to be loved and he is so careful about staying loved in his public image at first! But as he realizes that he's not capable of love or being loved like other people (again, for good reasons cuz he's a villain), we start to see him become more unhinged and dangerous and he hyper fixates on his kid as a way to try and self-soothe that only other thing he wants as much as power, being loved. And even better that it's his own DNA so he can stroke his ego at the same time.
Yeah I agree, he cares about Ryan in whatever twisted way he is capable of - but he also sees Ryan as an extension of himself. But as we have seen, Homelander loving someone definitely does not prevent him from hurting them.

Interesting that people ever liked her - I disliked her from the moment she pretty much shamed Annie for freezing when Deep as***lted her. I thought it was just bad writing when the episode aired, a poor attempt at a 'not like the other girls' girl. I felt so justified at the reveal!

I just found your channel by the Galaxy Quest reaction. Then I landed on Twilight and Harry Potter. Then I landed on the pitch meetings. Please do more pitch meetings. And the how thing got their names playlist. He's great with that.
I agree. As silly as the show can be at times, the underlying story is super compelling and serious. Huge budgets and VFX aside, it is safe to say that the writing of TV shows got a whole lot better over the past years too and I think this spirals into sort of a rising demand for even more greatly written TV shows. A good movie can still be a good story and experience, but they will never have the same amount of depth because you can only tell so much in 2 or 3 hours without things getting too condensed. There's also so much great acting, or even just amazing voice acting for animated shows now. People really put their heart and soul into those characters, bringing them to life. A lot of this not just applies to TV shows, but also video games too. And Stormfront being clueless about Vought... Oh man she had you all fooled good.
This is the episode that really made me re-confirm how much I hate child actors, mostly, this kid, Ryan... Gosh I hate his character now and through to the end...

I don't think homelander has feelings for his kid, I think homelander "wants" feelings for his kid, I think he wants his kid to be that cool, jock, famous-ish in school type of kid but instead he has the goody two shoes do your homework everyday and get no bitches type kid so he's trying to shape/form him into a better kid in his eyes but I could be wrong, I didn't finish watching this show either so I know just as much as you guys I may be wrong but this what I think ❤

The writing is Eric Kripke really knows how to pick his people and he has a clear vision of the tone and direction of his shows.

TV series focus is on character and story - Movie focus is on big budget spectacle.
Honestly I've never heard a better explanation. This makes perfect sense for 99% of movies.
