Today I’m going to review the Apple USB-C to 3,5 mm dac. This tiny little Dac only cost me €9,95, which is extremly cheap. When I see something with that price, I don’t even bother buying it, because it’s bound to be crap. But not this time.
The device itself is tiny and made of white plastic. If you place it next to a euro coin, you can see just how small it is. The cable is short and very thin and doesn’t feel that sturdy. Some people online even say it’s fragile. Popping it into your system for the first time will install the device automatically, no drivers needed. Don’t forget to change the bitrate and frequency, by default I found it to start in the lower sections. It’s only capable of 24 bits and 48 kHz.

The problem is that EU and US have different power output, so what's the alternatives for similar price?

Is Sound Blaster Play 4 or Sound Blaster G3 is any better than Apple Dongle?

Can you review the same dongle but from samsung? Verschiet soms van de sound dat eruit komt, en je kan veel meer audio formaten kiezen in windows ermee

I don't have any Apply products to test this, but my guess is that it should perform te same.

The UE version of the dongle is limited in power to 0.5vRMS. The US version does 1vRMS. With Android you will need to use the USB Audio Player PRO to get full volume, otherwise, it will be limited. One popular solution is to use the dongle with a Topping L30 or a Schiit Magni as a budget combo for power headphones.

Ok! Thanks! That may be a nice combo!

the apple usb c dongle dac provides the best performance per dollar ratio in audio sources. I like it so much I have three of them that I purchased for $5 each.

Good day Anton Can I touch on a different subject please. About a year ago I was asking you questions and you recommended a AE2 And I now have one. I run a dedicated tower running to my Upper quality sound receiver and some very high end speakers in Dolby and Atmos and the sound is amazing. My issue is from a card I just do not get the true 5.1. My receiver has HDMI and Toslink optical. but will not run my sub at all. Now! I also have a Nvidia Tv box made by Nvidia and using it the sound is amazing compared to desktop when listening to youtube music or Spotify music or both on movies as well. Is there not any card that will pass a true 5.1 thru HDMI ? I know will never get Atmos but Im looking for true quality wit 5.1 and my subwoofer to get a signal.

Hi DC90, I have to admit that I just don't know that much about true 5.1 and everything. I only test the headphone output, never the surround part. I've never hooked a sound card to a tv, so I just don't know. I know that graphics cards do, but sound cards... really cant tell. Sorry :(

Nice idea to make a movie. I heared in last years on audiophile forums its good budget dac but most people have a problem with using it with android devices, sound is silent. But i expect it, its apple.

Lol! Yes exactly! It's always because it's an Apple! Haha. No, without trying to be funny, I also read that this device has trouble with some Android devices, but also with the Apple iPad. Don't know why this is. My phone has Android 11 and works just fine.

These things are an anomaly. They sound surprisingly good, even at their tiny price. Almost a best kept secret.
BTW, it must have an amp in there, probably integrated right into a single chip that also has the DAC and USB logic. If it didn't have an amp, you wouldn't hear anything.
Cheers, and hats off, to you for being fair and objective. I'm exactly like you with my view on Apple. But this dongle of theirs not only defies logic, it defies Apple's "pay us 10x more for the same performance" ethos. Truly baffling, but I'm glad this little dongle exists.

Haha, I'm rather annoyed that is exists! I don't want Apple to have good and cheap products! :D No, just kidding. I'm happy that I was proved wrong!
