    Thanks dude. builder spent 4500.00 building this trans. all race gears, low 1-2-3, stock ratio 4th, chromemoly axles, etc... The trans is so freakin' tough, I did break a bull gear on the right, which was unbelievable since it was the better German made gear from the factory. (I actually did it on this run, but was able to hobble it home) *thump *thump *thump *thump *thump

    I use to be big into sand rails 20 years ago back when parts were cheep. I truly love them. I try to tell my 30 year old step son, but he thinks I'm full of shit! I remember building the old 1600cc daul port blocks with the case saver studs and getting 400 plus hp no problem. I sure enjoy watching your sandrail. it really takes me back. I remember kicking cameros asses on friday nights, running redlight to redlight. You make me want to build another one pretty bad.

    You got it Tazz!!
    I went through the 1200,1500 and 1600 single port stages then to the 1600 twin port (not that powerful but still good fun!) finally to the 1835 with flowed heads, two twin Weber carbs and an aggressive set of cams and a centrifugal distributor - what a revelation those upgrades were! And the Scat bits which stopped the transaxle from popping it's bearings and cogs.
    I'd say to anyone, you haven't really lived till you're driven a fast rail - I don't think anything beats it!

    My friend just got a rail today with a stroked 2100 VW motor and superlite frame. I think the frame is made partially out of aluminum or something because two 150lb men can pick this rail up and walk off with it!

    4.5 lbs per horse power. Not a bad power to weight ratio.
    For all those who aren't thinking much of the 200 hp, it's not just about the hp/tq a car is pushing that matters when it comes to performance.. The Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce packs a power-to-weight ratio of 5.1 lbs per hp.
    Nice ride tazztt1.

    Holy shit that thing takes off. It's hilarious how many people don't understand horsepower to vehicle weight ratio. This buggy would smoke nearly every car on the road off the line, just like a motorcycle. I bet it's even faster than some motorcycles. It can't really be compared though because it's in a league of it's own, in between cars and motorcyles. I'd love to see you off road that baby, put on some mud tires and give us some new vids

    Great video... Now let's go back and look for my toupee LMAO
    All kidding aside, I like your buggy. I'm new to this kind of thing
    and I'm slowly learning. Mine has nowhere near the power that
    yours has. Mine has the VW 1600 stock engine, manual trans of
    course. I have replaced the JC's with LED's they put out great
    light. I have the light bar in center with one spot on each side of that.
    Then added two more spots to the very front of the buggy. So I
    ave plenty of light for riding at night through the Mojave Desert.
    I'd like to ask you, What does it take to make the buggy street leagle?
    Break lights, and turn signals? Thanks for your time... Thumbs up buddy
    and you have a new subscribber

  • @tazztt1
    @tazztt1  11 лет назад +1

    That's AWESOME dude! Sounds like a nice set-up you have there. I have 4500.00 in this engine, and another 3000.00 in the trans, so you got me there. lol
    And while you're smoking tires all the way through 3rd, I'll be HOOKING tires like I always do and resist the temptation to wave as I leave you behind. =)
    Ride safe!

    I built three VW based rails back in the good old 80's and the quickest of the three was 1835 powered. Round about the 120 hp mark - not as quick as yours, but just about as much fun on the closed forest roads that I lived next to back then.

    Hi Tyler, CLASS is in session, and the TEACHER is IN, so take notes...
    Rail: 200 hp, 900 lbs. = 4.5 lbs per hp
    LS1 2 or 3 (Vette): 400 hp, 3300 lbs. = 8.25 lbs per hp.
    They all get OWNED when they try this Rail.
    You can't mess with math, experience, and wisdom. I'll take your bet.
    Thanks for the compliment just the same.

The 'WTH are you talking about' was referring to "Kinda sounds like the valve geometry is off". 1- If you have the ability to 'hear' valve geomotry, you are not human. 2- If you have something to teach the man that built THIS motor, you are not human.

  • @tazztt1
    @tazztt1  12 лет назад

    @Acavet1000 ... You are correct. This rail is bare bones. The Make is 'Sand Toy', Model 'Drag'(?). I get 22mpg when I behave, but I don't. (snicker) Seems a 1600cc with minimum carburetion would give the best mileage and would also be quite fun. Buy as much power as you can afford though.

  • @madmax2069
    @madmax2069 13 лет назад

    with that little weight you don't need much power to get it going like a rocket (power to weight ratio), and from this video it seems like it goes like one as well. plus i bet its cheaper to run (fuel wise) then most cars on the road today (depending on how you drive it that is), that and the fun you can have in this. I have always wanted to own a street legal rail/buggy.

  • @BloodstainedSinner
    @BloodstainedSinner 11 лет назад

    Nah. Just a full F23 bolt on MKIV 20mm turbo, combined with a On3 70mm turbo kit, with some custom pluming, intercooler, etc, and a Vortech roots supercharger, running off it's own seperate intercooler. 20 mil turbo cost 3,500, 70 cost (i believe) 4,000, and the supercharger was 6,958. With the custom made parts for all that to fit, it was another 8,000, not including labor fees. At the end of the day, the twin turbos, blower, and labor cost me a grand total of around 29,000. It can be done.

    I have a question, I have a street legal sandrail, guessing around 70 to 80 hp, not quiet what you have but still no slouch, when I get anywhere near 50 mph the front end gets light and squirley and the wind coming under the windsheld is like a tornado, there no way Id want to go any faster, how in the world do you handle the wind??

  • @dezrat
    @dezrat 5 лет назад

    1972 called, it wants the mild steel frame and 2180 back.

  • @tazztt1
    @tazztt1  11 лет назад

    It is a tornado. You're feeling the turbulaent vortex whipping in around your windshield creating negative pressure (vacuum) behind the windshield. Try it w/o your windshield. You'll feel only straight line not-turbulent air go by just like riding a motorcycle. Your front end may feel a little more stable too, if the big wind-sail (windshield) was the problem.
