    I met Lofty back in the 90's and he signed his bushcraft book for me which I had bought some time before. I'm pleased to say that I still have it.

    He was my instructor in Malaysia jungle training when I was SAS. He nearly killed me on a route march, yes through the jungle. I was not fully acclimatized and was sweating too much and went down with heat exhortation. He sat in on a meeting with other instructors and were discussing kicking me out of the Regiment RTU. I pointed out the fact all instructors had been in the jungle two weeks before we arrived and were acclimatized and they should have know better that not every person gets used to the new climate at the same time. I was allowed to stay in the training and 3 days later I passed him on a route march and sarcastically asked if he was OK as I passed him. The lesson I am giving you is make sure everyone in your team are acclimatized before extreme physical exercise.

    I met one of these gentlemen with the tan berets with the wings on the front when I was learning my early bush craft and he reminded me of Lofty, he just went through everything down to its component parts and the task was completed in often the most common sense manor, then he'd just worked and practice'd more than most, no magic, not super human but fantastic people to meet none the less!!

      +jelkel25 Many years ago, I was out walking somewhere - where doesn't matter - it was the afternoon of an annual Remembrance Sunday. I saw an old guy with the legendary sand beret and Blue belt (he must have been pushing 70 years old) and one of my biggest regrets is that I hadn't got the sense to walk up to him, offer him my hand and say 'thank you!'. He's probably gone now. But if he's looking down on this modern world, may I just say 'Thank you' - and I'm sorry I hadn't got the balls to say it to your face........

    Col. Charles (Charlie) Beckwith was a legend in the American Special Operations community. He founded Delta.....and they need no introduction. Great book on the humble beginnings of Delta and Charlie Beckwith. It's called "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney.

    And another thing: Something that puts this man way above many of todays 'Gentlemen' if you like; look at 5-06/7 where he clears his throat and covers his mouth. So many today just share their lung/throat contents with everyone. Good on Yer, Lofty - may you live for ever! :-)

    I hav seen hs name pop up in different magazine Articles,so it was great 2put a face 2the Legend(Ray Mears does a good show and is respected,but lofty will always be a SAS man until he dies,so naturally he sceptical about these Tv shows)But what a character, the real McCoy..He's proberly pulled hs hair out wth the former SAS men writing books and doing TV shows..Very down2 earth,unpretentious and the bonefide real deal...great video..

    You can hear Charles Beckwith's side of that story in his book "Delta Force" - great read into the foundations to SFOD-D (Delta) - He claimed he went down due to shaving and opening up the pours in his skin. He nearly died.

    First of all as wipe, this guy has dealt with more reality than you could probably ever imagine, secondly he's 70+ years old, thirdly how many millions of your books have been sold and highly regarded around the world?

  • @IowaPrepper
    @IowaPrepper 11 лет назад +2

    I have to agree that his history and career validate him. Certainly isn't a dickhead mouthing off about others. Speaking the truth is a reality check. Ray Mears is a nice guy and could survive a bit. Bear Grylls can't survive without Walmart backing him. Lofty has clearly paved the way for many others. He is REAL without question. I don't believe we would ever hear of him doing a urine enema in any circumstance :) And I don't see many people end up on the ground missing their teeth.

    Lofty. I really wish the modern media producers would watch you talk. ASI teach everything you mention in this video, yet due to the modern B.S surrounding 'survival', people think it's all a game or a reality TV programme, for entertainment only. Also, you do still have a few mistakes in your book that should be changed, in regards to Australian survival.

    If he were to mention that Bear Grylls several times, as an expedition leader, have had to be airlifted out of a dangerous situation after injuring himself doing something stupid I would have agreed with him. But he fails to mention that. As an expedition leader your only priority is to bring everybody safely back including yourself - and BG completely fails. I'm not talking about his stupid TV stunts, I'm talking about actual expeditions. Look it up. Ray Mears helps save lives, BG not so much

      Andy, sometimes you have to look beyond the culture and ethos and stories , there are a lot of great trainers and bush craft specialists out there that have not been in the Special Forces. I'm hoping you have the knowledge to know that our Special forces guys (whatever regiment they come from) get trained by civvy specialists.

    So you're actually saying he's perfectly validated in saying stupid insulting shit about people who have trained the SAS, trained with the SAS, trained with several other special forces around the world and their reputation speaks for themselves... yeah that seems about right... He was in the SAS and mouthing off about people that train the very same regiment he was in seems totally justified. Especially as he's standing there looking like he's about to die!

    Why does this bloke always have to knock people like Ray Mears and Bear Grylls?? On the one hand, he wants to encourage us to be interested in survival, on the other hand, once you become very proficient , a' la Mears and Grylls, you become accused of being "hobbyist" survivalists! He maybe a legend but he's a bit 2 faced too.

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife
    @SquirrelFromGradLife 12 лет назад

    yeah he actually does and you clearly have a problem dealing with reality.. You can see the guy isn't well, he is out of breath just by talking, he clings onto the podium for support, he loses his train of thought etc..
    You can mouth off about respect all you want while everyone else lives in the real world.
