Re: decoding options in Escape Room games - the other Escape Room: The Game games do use a device which is simplified in this jigsaw. The big boxes have a "Chrono Decoder" - a large box with an an electronic timer builtin, and you insert 4 of 6 plastic keys (each key type used up to two times) into the machine in a specific order, and get an "Correct" or "Incorrect" noise (incorrect also deducting a minute from your time). They also have an app version for the sets which don't come with the physical decoder, but you can use it if you have it. We've played 3 different boxes this way (10 "rooms" total). Each key has a number, a letter, a roman numeral, a shape, a dot positioned around a circle, and a key-shape to uniquely identify it - and the puzzles all revolve around discovering which four keys you need and in what order. This jigsaw version simplifies the 6 keys by each only having a number and a shape (the other identifiers aren't used), but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked, especially with the rotating part as well.

Thanks for adding that info, Danny. In retrospect, I totally should have included the Chrono Decoder in that part of the video, because it's such an interesting system, _and_ it's from the same series. I have no idea why I didn't.
