The craftsmanship of Andrew Enns and Shingo Ekuni's team has built a perfect Guitar, Yamaha FG9! Well done! Passion + engineers have created an outstanding and refined product. Yamaha FG9 will take over our hearts, wishing all musicians a great deal of inspiration to compose beautiful songs!

I just tried one of these today at a store in Fukuoka and it blew me away. The only reason it didn't come home with me is the cigarette smoke billowing from the store. I love that it's designed for America yet unapologetically Japanese. Looking forward to owning one.

Yamaha Guitars have that secret sauce, if you will. The engineering that went into the FG9 is top-notch.

Waiting for a cut away and ll 56 and 36 Martin and Taylor comparisons.

Yamaha is killing it in acoustic guitars. The whole fg line you get more then you pay for. From the bottom of the line to the FG9, which is a masterpiece that will last for a century. Also the LL series is extremely good value. LL16 model and above beat 99% of guitars in double their price range. People need to stop sleeping on Yamaha acoustic and drop the whole idea that they are a budget line guitar. Because imo they are the leader in acoustic. I would even say better then Martin when you factor in the costs and what you get for your money.

    Any plans for a FS body? A “FS9” 😮?

I concur on this request. The FG9 is perfection in my view and I’d buy an FS9 instantly if they add it to the line.

They need to do a trans acoustic version

It is no doubt an instrument of the highest caliber. And while $4k is probably a more than fair street price, it will have to perform like an $8k guitar to sway loyalists and traditionalists from established and boutique American counterparts. Being the kaizen and ever-forward looking oriented corporation that Yamaha is, I’m quite surprised that wood torrefaction, hide/animal protein glue, and variations of Dalberia(rosewood) were not employed in r&d and resulting production. Perhaps Europe and Asia is their primary market target for this guitar. At any rate, I’m looking forward to playing one of these myself.

Apparently heat treating the wood to open the top up thus giving the aged sound may have short term benefits, but hinder the ability for the top to continue to open up long term. Meaning 25 years from manufacture the sound won’t sound as full as a all solid wood non heat treated tops

4K for this guitar is CHEEP! I was looking at picking up another D-35, but I've decided on an FG9 if and when I can find one. It's a better quality instrument, and I've owned several Martin and Yamaha guitars since the 1970s.

everything aside god damn just look at the subtle design changes. new design. this headstock flushes perfectly and gives more stuff to observe in a guitar. damn hats off to builders.

These folks are the best of the best at what they do. I've owned many Yamaha guitars and organs over the years. Their quality and value is superb. Not to mention how much they stand behind their products. I love Martin guitars as well, for the same reasons. But Yamaha IMHO is a half-step above in innovation and value.

They need an FG7 which is an FG5 with thicker lacquer. $2300

They could not improve the FG9. It’s perfection from its amazing dynamic range to its gorgeous minimalist appearance. Any change would be a downgrade.

By bigger things, people actually want smaller, as in FS9 models.

@@TavisAllen That is true. Got the M model FG9, will probably get an FS9R. The FS9 has already been filmed at gear shows this year, they're said to be coming very soon

@@jmsamborski Officially? Links? I do expect this; this is seemingly how Yamaha operates.
I have seen players with "9" level FS-body guitars--these have all been Yamaha custom shop creations.(Andrew Enns) I've seen the sound hole label with "FS" on it--all but confirmation, yeah?

All the details and engineering that went into this to produce an amazing guitar. Yet it has the world’s ugliest pickguard.

Priced too high for a Yamaha. At this price I’d buy a Martin. Should be priced around $1200. for a high end Yamaha.

The FG9’s musical ability and dynamic range are the best in the world right now at this price point. Play one and you’ll get it. You’re gonna need 10 grand to go beyond this and even then I’d say your only improvement is going to be visual in selecting the exact wood you want in the build.
