The game is very horrifying, but the best part for me were the comedic parts like the exaggerated door knocking, or the "yes!" You get after finishing the game

This game's monster has a really good AI, that's what sells it for me In the first game, the monster will try to sneak up behind you, walking when you're not looking, he KNOWS when you open your radar and will get closer when you're doing it, but if you detect him he'll run and hide waiting for another chance. Also, when there's only 1 orb left, his eyes will turn blue to mimic the color of the last orb, and he'll stay still near corners to make sure you can see the light, but not the "orb" itself, forcing you to get closer just to meet with a gruesome surprise In the second game, he'll run at full speed towards you and you need to flash him before he gets too close, but when he's chasing you he won't always take the fastest path towards you, so you'll never really know from where he is coming from, he may just be tricking you.

For example, at 47:58 the monster tries to go behind, to go where he is not looking, if he looks left the monster goes right, but he keeps looking both ways so the monster can't figure out how to get him
The dread that fills you when you realize the monster's done playing with you and you can HEAR his footsteps pulverizing the floor as he violently closes in on you is pure EVIL. Honestly headphones seem like they would help more so. I can tell the general direction the monster is in with the headphones while watching this video. It does make it heck of a lot scarier though.
Dude, you are literally the pioneer of the most popular horror games. If I want to know a game will get big, I just look at your channel. This is a fantastic addition to the popular indie game library!
42:16 I’ve never seen that happen before, pretty cool that the developers included a surprise if you manage not to trigger the monster in the entire run
The Hide and Seek segment honestly is the closest we'll ever get to a SCP-096 horror game Actually horrifying trying to figure out if that shape in the distance is him sitting down or not
38:12 Dang. The pixelization is definitely doing a lot of work to make the monsters scary. And that's not criticism, either! Stephen King put it well: "Nothing is so frightening as what's behind the closed door". Horror is all about what you obscure and suggest, as much as it is about what you show. The developers took what is a pretty basic model with some jerky animations and through pixelization, darkness, and a lot of suggestion made it absolutely terrifying. That's awesome!
This same developer also made a game called the Upturned. Its a horror adventure game set in a huge hotel, where you can pick up throw almost any object. Please check it out, it is as much underappreciated as this game.
theyre also the creator of a few popular old ROBLOX horror games , like Light Bulb , Silent Dark , and BREACH . theyre broken but they were pretty good horror games to say the least !

It always knows where you are, it just toys with you until "it has enough" and just ends it. Edit: Okay, I wrote that while watching, I was talking about the first mode. Hide and seek is as terryfing as the original...
When you turned off the pixelization I was surprised at just how goofy the monster actually looked. Just a little filter and it moving so fast you can't stare at it for long does a great job of adding to the scare factor where other games might need to expend obscene effort making the monster gross and threatening looking.
I really like the touch of when you hold your breath for too long, the screen and sound changes. Really nice attention to the detail, like they could had just made it infinite with no changes.
Damn, I have just watched the review of this game which went somewhat viral and here manly is playing it already! I wonder if he actually saw the review himself or had some other sources
This game does an amazing job at "fast paced horror". You usually have to spend time to build atmosphere, and then hit with payoffs after a time has elapsed. This game doesn't do that, instead building tension by kinda stretching out the value of the jumpscare (when it spots you, and the impending chase) followed by a break that's just long enough to make you question if it's around the next corner or not.
I love how he blankly stares at the hide & seek monster while it’s freaking out and just goes “you should calm down.” THIS IS THE STUFF THAT MAKES ME LAUGH!!! also I haven’t seen that version of the hide & seek creature going “BAD SEEKER!!” Yet, that was actually very cool to see!
I love the work put into the AI in these games. They almost seem to have quirks and personalities. Might just be because the AI's simplistic and janky, but the end result is that they all behave differently and in ways that compliment the overall humour of the game.
i discovered this game existed just today, went "hmmm i wonder if theres any playthroughs of this" and boom, you. this also takes spychecking from tf2 to a whole new level

The subconscious escalation of a horror game. At the start it's always a slow, cautious crawl. Gauging your surroundings. Slow and steady. At the end of the DLC? Full sprints all the time and a bit of cheekery with the monster's pathing AI. Once you see it you can't unsee it...and it's pretty funny.
Fun fact, the one who made this game, Zeekerss, has a new game out called The Upturned and it is absolutely amazing!!! Also if you are into hard suspenseful horror I definitely recommend Dead Seater, another game by him!
that phantom gamemode was absolutely incredible. the way your screen clouds up with a red overlay to signify that you can’t hold your breath for any longer is very very neat.
I'm usually scared of games where you're being chased, but this one really ups the scare factor with the visuals and the sound design. On top of that, I thought it was really imaginatives with each game modes bringing new twists to the same objective. Also gotta love the derpy AI after all these scares and chases.
Outta sight, man. The way you're chased in the game is pretty cool, it isn't easy to run away from, the red light let's you know that it really is right behind you, and the monster noises key you in on how apeshit the thing is going behind you. Very tight.
This is unique and scary, its unique cos of the two perspectives in terms of satellite view and first person but its also scary cos when you switch to satellite view an enemy could be coming up from behind and you'd only have a few seconds to bolt outta there like your on fire. This is also a twisted version of pacman where somehow the ghosts all combined into pacman creating this monster, he's not looking for dots, hes got a much bigger plate of food.
Well, this was really cool. I'm impressed by just how much the gimmick of each level changes things up while keeping that Pac-Man gameplay. Kudos to the developer for pulling that off.
it is significantly less scary without the pixilation. the obfuscation of visual media can really do a lot to add tension. i mean thats how the uncanny valley works, being unable to visually decipher intent.
Yeah, this felt more survival horror-y with puzzle overtones, whereas Dark Deception is arcade-y horror. Both are good, but they are very different approaches to "horror 1st person pac-man".
This reminds me a bit of Mary Skelter, normally you will play like a dungeon game, but when you meet a nightmare (boss) game will turn to real-time, and you have to run from the boss (since they can't be killed until...)
I've been watching a lot of It Steals videos and there's still so many ways the monster can attack you as in sneaking up on you while you're using the Radar and this is why it's so underrated.
Glad I found your channel. You are soooooo calm which is a nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong, watching people freak out while playing horror games is funny; but watching someone actually beat the game and only jump once or twice is waaayy more entertaining.
The sound design in this game is brilliant. I love how detailed it is. I also just love the aesthetic - not sure what games it reminds me of, but it's nostalgic lol
Glad to see this horrifying experience finally get the attention it deserves :) Besides, it's not often you get a horror game that can startle Manly XD
An interesting (and probably terrible) idea for a 5th star would be a chaos mode with all 5 monsters, with you having to memorize audio cues and use all 5 different devices to beat the 5 mechanically distinct threats. Also would probably be best to have one monster that switches between behaviors, and you have to guess which it's using to survive.
the part where he runs knocking everything over right after the game told him directly that it hears everything has got to be the best thing I have seen
I am super glad you played It Steals. This game is way too much underated and has a ton of unique gameplay mecanics and sound designs that are really well executed I would also recommend his most recent game: The Upturned. I think you will find quite your share of comedic yet surreal and cosmic horror
fun ideas for an alternate version of the other two levels: Living walls: Each bunker is one use only, and there are only 3 in the map. The detector has a shorter range. The Phantom: You are completely blind, your only compass is the radar and you have to listen for the phantom.
I love it when Manly lets slip just how much of a warhammer nerd he is by casually dropping references here and there. Hey, I ain't judgin, I got the chaos undivided symbol tattoo'd on my back, it's a good thing to be a nerd about.
Wow. I thought, it was a typical horror, and just wanted to see Manly's walkthrough. But as I watched it, now I want to play it myself. Too interesting, creative and catchy. Damn.
Pac-man as a horror game is easily one of my favorite game spinoffs of all time. it flows so well and is still super consistent with the actual game itself
Poem Time: as the creature approached our lovely hero, he started running towards the last object, as the moster came closer the hero our hero grabbed the object, and a ray of light beam down on the hero as the moster came closer a sword came from the light and our hero slayed the moster just as it reached him and thus our great hero slayed another moster saving the day once more the - from a manlybadassbard(note: in the famous words of a random person there's always room for improvement a lot of improvement)
Man, you wrecked some of those levels. This is one of the tensest games I've ever played. You might want to check out the game The Upturned by the same creator. It's a mix of Survival Horror and 3D Platformer and it's really good.
Finally.. I was waiting for you to upload. Watching your videos helps me sleep since I've been deprived nowadays. Also, I hope you'll have a great day, Manly!
I just want to say the dev of this game was a pretty good dev on roblox in the past (I think he was popular at one or few times with a game). I'm usually scared of games where you're being chased, but this one really ups the scare factor with the visuals and the sound design. On top of that, I thought it was really imaginatives with each game modes bringing new twists to the same objective.
Also gotta love the derpy AI after all these scares and chases.
I think the jerky AI was on purpose, it makes the monster more unpredictable.
6:58 the way the character knocks cracks me up lmfao
Outta sight, man. The way you're chased in the game is pretty cool, it isn't easy to run away from, the red light let's you know that it really is right behind you, and the monster noises key you in on how apeshit the thing is going behind you. Very tight.
That first scare gave me a mini heart attack just the fact that it can sneak up on you so quietly like it was stalking you the whole time
Roblox horror game vibes and genuinely scaring the crap outa me
1:53 That absolutely blew my heart away. I just stood there and gasped intensly.
I'm glad you finally found this game. A true gem. You should also try Viktor Stobovski. Another really good one! People don't play that game enough
I enjoy the brain wreaking activities in Viktor. It's like Baldi but college.
I’ve seen this one myself, so cool to see you try it out, very atmospheric
Keep up with that content, you’re my hero! (Manly Badass)
idk if manly came up with it on the spot or what but where he said this at 29:48 sounded so dope
It is not that much of twist on the actual turn of phrase.
@@AlphaSquadZero how's it go?
@@theancientsam Who dares wins
The fact that this video is exactly 50:50 is just satisfying
I'm not sure whether manly had played cry of fear yet, but I would love to see him play it someday.
"He's not looking for dots hes got a much bigger plate of food"
That's sounds like a movie lol
38:13 this is just legit hilarious, thank you Manly,I never had that long of a laugh in a while.
Nothing's more anxiety inducing than playing childish games with a monster that may or may not want to kill you. :)
Literally saw a video about how cool this game is and now you're playing it
Couldn't remember if I'd watched this one or not but was looking it up cuz it's made by the Lethal Company dev.
I saw a review of this game a few days ago and thought, Manly needs to play this.
This is a really neat game! I like how the creator put a spin on each level rather than just keeping it ridiculously simple
Oh my gosh, I just learned about this game the other day through Pastra's video. I was wondering if you were going to play it lol
Even though the monsters don't look scary the atmosphere and game modes really tie it all together.
Yeah, this felt more survival horror-y with puzzle overtones, whereas Dark Deception is arcade-y horror. Both are good, but they are very different approaches to "horror 1st person pac-man".
This reminds me a bit of Mary Skelter, normally you will play like a dungeon game, but when you meet a nightmare (boss) game will turn to real-time, and you have to run from the boss (since they can't be killed until...)
amazing game, I love how it makes all this mechanichs and just put them in into levels, no lore or history, just Fun and Fear.
I literally watched a review of this game yesterday! Im glad Manly is playing it!
I also just love the aesthetic - not sure what games it reminds me of, but it's nostalgic lol
god damn this game does jumpscares well. someone knows what they're doing.
This game is absolutely amazing, I'm so glad manly is finally playing it!!
Glad to see this horrifying experience finally get the attention it deserves :)
Besides, it's not often you get a horror game that can startle Manly XD
That must be a good flex
"So my game made manly scared"
XD
@@codewallette3381 Yes, the youtuber tests. Manly for horror, Spiffing Brit for exploits, and so on :)
I noticed that the radar warps in the direction of the monster when it is walking up to you, super cool but creepy detail
It's actually a valid baiting method, as well as viable for placement.
The less objects, the less indicators for the Phantom to be near you.
I can't blame the monster, imagine living in the darkness all your life, and they someone shines a flashlight in your eyes
Holy shit the atmosphere in this game was emaculate, had my heart pounding at every turn
I'm pretty sure if you're streaming it says "It likes an audience" this game is just to cool
You spelled too wrong
Thanks man I didn't know
I am super glad you played It Steals. This game is way too much underated and has a ton of unique gameplay mecanics and sound designs that are really well executed
I would also recommend his most recent game: The Upturned. I think you will find quite your share of comedic yet surreal and cosmic horror
Manly is starting to become a staple for me, like Mark was in the heyday with Jack and Pewds
5:35 the monster laughed when he ran into the wall lmao
I haven't seen manly get scared yet. And God damn he recovers quickly
1:54 This. Is. Great. This reaction is just awesome! I can't stop rewatching this
43:48 gets scratched*
10 seconds later
*"ow."*
fun ideas for an alternate version of the other two levels:
Living walls: Each bunker is one use only, and there are only 3 in the map.
One of the few games that I’d played before Manly did, and that I actually thought that Manly is going to play this someday.
Was just actually in the process of buying this game right as I got this notification, what amazing timing lmao
That first jumpscare though…
Damn!
The whole game has horrifying jumpscares really!
I’m awake at 2:30 for the same reason men dudes
Lol I’m the same too! About to take a nap, manly has the soothing sleepy vibes even with the horror games
I just want to say the dev of this game was a pretty good dev on roblox in the past (I think he was popular at one or few times with a game).
I saw the game get released on steam and saw barely anybody covering the game. Even if somebody did, they only did short video because it was confusing for those who did record while playing it.
