I once hung my hammock on the very bank of an oxbow. In such a case you definitly need to remember which side to get out on, especially when answering nature's calls during the night, so if there's a zip on only one side that helps reminding you, if, that is, you strung up your hammock the right way... Great to wake up and see the fish swim by just underneath.
Love that - I’ve got two images in my head now - firstly the peaceful, tranquility of a river flowing just inches away (and probably the cause of your nighttime call of nature!) and secondly the amusing image of getting out on the wrong side!! 😂
Before the Frontline (nearly nine years ago now) the DD travel was their top of the line hammock...it was available in OD with single zip entry only...It was made of the same water proof material as the DD tarp...that way you could use it on the ground as well. very good comparison Simon...good to see ya mate...woods
+MTwoodsrunner -Thanks woods! I toyed with the idea of getting the travel hammock, but in the end opted for the frontline for the extra breathability, but the travel hammock is certainly more versatile. They do make good hammocks! Cheers mate, Simon.
Good comparison I tried to get the hornet but they haven’t made them for years. I have bought their compact hammocks for all the family and they love them.👍
great video there, i have a old green hornet single zip and zip for double layer, the Net on mine is a lovely green really chill to look through and i have a ridge line on it now for a flat lay. Built like a tank too. I use it when i go to a camp where i need a right hand view as my Woodsmanx is cut for a left lie with net up. ATB.
+Walkabout Philpots - Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I love my green hornet, more than the frontline I think, wish I had the green mosi net though!!! Do you keep your ridgeline attached permanently? I often use a ridgeline, but mainly to hang gear off, as I use my tarp tie outs to hang my mosi net off. Cheers, Simon.
Great comparison vid. Funny that these are the same as the hammocks Rob and I use. On our last trip Robs DD split across the backside, 7 years old. My Tenth Wonder 8 yr old still going strong. Thanks for sharing, Steve
norfnife - I saw that in your video - I bet Rob was gutted! At least it was only one layer!!! I think I still prefer the hornet, I've modded it a bit since the mosi net now has suspension like the DD - still the aluminium tubes, but one bungee positioned centrally rather than two.
Ah! I looked on their website and couldn't find them, I did find it hard to believe they didn't make them any longer! I think I prefer the Hornet to the Frontline, but I need to give the DD one more of a chance!! Cheers mate.
+Jonah Howlett - Thanks Jonah, the DD is a great hammock! Glad you're getting on well with hammocking, not everyone does. I think it depends on how you lay too, I tend the lay slightly on the diagonal and it seems more comfy. Cheers, Simon.
Good vid mate, would be good to compare a newer model hornet mine has double zip and black mesh. From what I can gather the frontline suffers a bit with condensation. I looked for a comparison vid between the two but couldn't find any. TW do supply some good kit
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Yeah, I think tw made quite a few improvements since the model I have, great hammocks! I hadn't heard that about the frontline, I know some find the travel hammock doesn't breath well due to the waterproof base, which is why I chose the frontline. Time will tell though, it's only had one outing so far! Cheers buddy, and thanks for watching. Atb, Simon.
A superb watch and listen Simon. I use the original DD Frontline with the green mozi netting and double zip and have done for around 6 years and really like it. I have looked at Tenth Wonder in the past and will look again to see if they offer anything lighter as I am now looking to reduce the weight of my kit and am also considering the DD Superlight hammock but unsure if it will offer the same level of comfort etc so decisions to be made lol. Thank you for the comparison. You have a new subscriber. Happy Wandering. Paul :)
+Paul Outdoors - Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the sub!! I still cant decide which I prefer out of my old green hornet and my frontline, they are pretty much on a par weightwise and size wise, here is just something about my old hammock!! I don't think they make it any more though unfortunately. I too looked at the ultralight, impressive for its pack size and weight!! Atb, Simon.
Nice one Simon I own both makes of the hammocks I like them both but tend to favor dd a little more due to the 2 sided zip but still both winners in my eyes. ATB. alb
+Albert Jones - cheers Alb, I'm still getting to know my frontline, I really love the hornet, but I'm sure the DD will fill its shoes in time! I've had other DD hammocks before - the camping hammock and the smaller scout, all great hammocks! Cheers mate, Simon.
Cool bud.i have a Chinese knockoff jungle hammock that's decent. But my go too is the grand trunk skeeter beater.like it loads.i would love one of those dd,s tho.
Sometimes the Chinese knockoffs are really good and so much cheaper than the real deal! Not heard of your hammock - going to have to look it up - love the name of it! Cheers buddy.
Problem with the TW Hornet is I dont think Niell even know what he gets when he gets them, mines black no see um mesh zipped both sides, and the double layer is zipped, then I got a separate tie on waterproof layer that can be used to protect the underquilt, a ground layer or seperate hammock. he did send me a replacement for a small fault, but what he sent was not the same spec (bugnet zip on one side only, sewn on other side layers were stiched shut I just dont get the arm hole on them, its pretty useless lol, its in the nylon bit at the head end, but i cant use for anything
+Eddie Robinson - Sounds like they've got a lot more sophisticated in the more recent models! Mine is very basic - arm hole....very interesting lol!! Cheers, Simon.
Great Vid Simon. I've been looking for some time now to replace my old hammock. My brother has the Tenth Wonder and really rates it. The DD hammocks caught my interest some time back and I've a number of videos about them but was very pleased to come across your video comparing the two. I agree with you that they are very close with just a few subtle differences, seeing them actually errected side by side I have opted for and purchased the DD frontline along with DD under-blanket and sleeping bag. Not used them as yet but that will change in the near future when time allows. Great video Simon explaining the differences!
Two hammocks, eh? Hope one was for the little doggie. Or the little doggie could actually BE a hammock: zip ties for the paws and a couple of sturdy trees for suspension ...
+John Finnis -That's a cruel thought Johnny, poor Maggie, poor, poor Maggie! Keep away from the mean man Maggie, he wants to make you into furniture! 😆
My dad lives in a hammock. He is from Yucatán Mexico and his hangs in my parents bedroom. Nice tutorial. Thanks. 🙏🏼⛺️😎

Yes, it’s a shame they stopped making them, superb hammocks!

I've been waiting for some videos like this for ages, great stuff!
+Chris Millington - Glad you're enjoying my friend! Keep tuned, plenty more to come. 👍🏻

I love my jungle hammock, I now don't bother with the tubes, I just cut some sticks at camp so I don't have to carry poles around. Great vid.
Nice one mate, TW still make the green hornet but it's very much better than the old one.Keep up the good work
Paul

Thanks Mark, sorry for the late reply, your comment slipped through the net somehow! How have you got on with the DD setup? 👍
AAwwww! Maggie. ❤
what dog breed is maggie?
She’s a Newfoundland. 👍
