- No surfing, no babes in bikinis, no skateboards, no extreme snowboarding or tropical beeches here I'm afraid. This is trail running over extremely rough terrain in very windy conditions in the middle of nowhere. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the new Go Pro Hero 9 Black Edition and I was really keen to see what the new 5K footage was like and how stable the new Hypersmooth 3.0 was. So i decided to put it through it's paces in some extremely unforgiving conditions. The test conditions were extremely uneven terrain, super strong winds and flat overcast cloud conditions. Overall I was pretty impressed with how well the Go Pro Hero9 held up in such difficult conditions and how stable the footage came out. The hypersmooth 3.0 with boost on is just as good if not better than a gimbal!
All footage is shot in 5k ( 5120 x 2880) and is straight from camera, some shots have a minor grade applied which is just a quick boost in saturation and a contrast curve applied.

Wow, Jonathan! Great run! The footage looks very very smooth and stable! Go Go Pro!!!
Yeah, it's an impressive bit of kit.
run looks beyond savage!!! Impressed how well the GP9 handles it.
Good stuff! Keep it up!
Thanks
Now THIS IS A TEST.
Glad to see a test without any of the tropical beaches and extreme sports! what did you use to edit this video with?
Thanks. Premier pro
go pro camera is the best for vlog .. i wish someday to have like that camera ... because my all video is from my iphone 6s only .... stay safe sir!
Thanks
And no stupid over the top music and cuts/transition edits.
Haha, yeah, just wanted to keep it real 😉
Do you see the detail improvement over the Hero 7/8's 4K? RUclips kills the detail even in 5K playback. First protune native flat with low sharpness test from H9, thank you for that!
Yeah I know, RUclips really doesn't do the footage any favours. The 5k bump from the 8 and 7 is just about noticeable but only really if pixel peeping, it's a bonus to have the extra resolution if editing in 4k as you have the ability to crop in 35%ish, so that's nice. Thanks for comment, all the best 👍
Great vid.
Thanks 😊
Dude, How did you not sprain your ankle? Impressive video
Haha yeah it's a good question. I've been doing it for a few years and know the terrain well. Despite that a level of caution is still required...glad you enjoyed the video. 👍
Hey nice Test Footage i am just wondering how u hold the GoPro. Do you just have it in your hands or hold it with a Stick?
Just a very basic, non extending stick, it's about 4 inches long so fits in the palm of my hand
@@JonathanJScottFilms Do you have a linkt to that stick ?

@@JonathanJScottFilms thx for that
@@MrRunsic no worries, you're welcome
Hey man cool video, I've noticed for some reason my footage looks grainy/blurry. I run h.265 with high bitrate, but it doesn't look clear and smooth like yours. Any tips? Just got a gopro in august
Does it look like that when you upload it to RUclips or when your viewing files on you pc? RUclips is not friendly to GoPro footage and reduces the quality a lot. When viewing on your PC you need a very modern high powered pc to view h.265 footage as it's very resource intensive. Hope that helps.
nice imma have to give it a try
Hahaha, yeah for sure.
