This video is going to be all about creating suspense. I'm going to talk about the movie Minority Report and the book Wool by Hugh Howie. Too many youtube videos for writers discuss movies when giving advice, but not this one!
Wool and Minority Report both generate suspense by...wait for it...telling the reader what's going to happen next and daring the reader to believe it!
This video was inspired by this excellent video on how to set a movie on fire!

Good points. I think Game Of Thrones’ twists work because the “good” option is plausible, but what happens is often the more *realistic* option. In fact, most people who die in these twists do so because of their pride, shortsightedness, or just general failure to pay attention to signs around them. It’s kind of a theme throughout the show: in order to gain and hold onto power, it’s better to be smart than principled or brave. Of course, ruthless pragmatism can be just as bad, and becoming a monster for a “greater good” can backfire. And of course, sometimes things just go horribly wrong because people are flawed and unpredictable.

I agree. I think there's also a lot of playing around with people acting for and against their own self interest.
