Incredible vide. I've watched your Chennai on and off since the start of pandemic. I am from south west Portland near johns landing; it's been great to watch your videos to learn more about the history of where I grew up. Used to play basketball with my coworkers after work at the north park. Good times
Steve, your films are well thought out, well researched all around great! Thank You! That's coming from someone who doesn't comment very often. I look forward to the next one. 😊
I recently discovered your content. I was born in Portland as was my father and his father.my grandmother moved to Portland in 1911 from New York city.
I use to live in old town, in my mind I always thought of the park blocks as the “threshold” to a safer side of the neighborhood when I would go on walks.
This vid is exceptionally well done. It's so fun and interesting to walk around with you on these informative romps. (And many an amazing time at my friend Debbi's apartment in the Eaton in the 90s. Fortunately, nothing required bail money. ;) )
Same for me, 2001--2009. Born, educated, worked, & loved to hang out in the once beautiful Rose City. Ah Portland, City of Roses, Rivers & Bridges, how I miss your parks, pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, night clubs, art galleries, museums, Main Library, OMSI, Powell's Bookstore, Trail Blazers, Winter Hawks, trolley, Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Pioneer Square, Pioneer Place Mall & the Galleria, Saturday Market, Alphabet District, Rose Festival, Rose Parade, Dragon Boat Races, Parade of Floating Lights, architecture, street performers, outdoor statues, outdoor concerts, the Zoo, China Town, the Chinese, Japanese & Rose Gardens, & Portlandia welcoming people to visit the Portland Building & to do commerce in her Port City.
I like your idea. Convert the (eastern) Park Ave between Salmon and Washington to a pedestrian street, and install a few trees and benches perhaps. When I was a student at PSU, one of my professors mentioned the idea of making all of the park blocks to pedestrians only, like removing vehicular traffic on each of the Park Avenues. Frankly while on this topic, I encourage you to ponder NW 13th Ave generally between Davis and Hoyt give or take. Converting that to a pedestrian only (car-less) would be very logical. The trees in those large pots have been there for many years now and continue to just grow in pits with the street blocked off. Imagine a center bioswale with trees in the middle. Increasing Portland's Green Urbanism is something Portland should be focusing on these days. Cheers thanks for the great video, I appreciate your work!

Sadly now, those courts are pretty much taken over by people dealing and smoking fentanyl. No one ever plays there anymore.

Really interesting. I appreciate the amount of work that went into this video❤
Glad you enjoyed it! I don’t foresee running out of video ideas for quite some time.
I don't know why I find these so interesting, but I really do! Well done!
It's so pretty there.
Thank you for your hard work putting this together🙏🤘
I am a nerd for Portland/Oregon history. So I hope you make more videos!
Thank you Steve

Great job Steve. Consider doing a video on the downtown branch of the Portland Library at 10th and Taylor. Thanks
I’d probably consider it, I walked by it while I was out getting video for this one and the wheels in my head spun a little.
And they curiously named the streets after thrmselves.LOL
My dad used to deal drugs in south park blocks in the late 90s lol

A more complete history would include the removal of the native peoples who were inhabitants and traders.
I like parks.
