The point at the very end of the video is a bit misleading and is actually more well understood by scientists than the video suggests. The reason why men tend to have a lower life expectancy has to do with how testosterone interacts with the heart.
As the heart becomes weaker into advanced age, they are more likely to die of heart attacks than women because estrogen is comparatively less intense to the heart.
However in both genders, the sex hormones are significantly decreased so the difference is still small.
Estrogen also has a slightly harder time maintaining bone strength than testosterone which is why women are more likely to suffer from it.
Maintaining good heart health for men and good bone health for women can help mitigate these differences and help you live longer, but overall physical health is most important for longevity.

Also Y chromosome is much shorter than X chromosome, which suggests that in pre-sapient era Y was damaged due to one man mating with several woman (when one tribe defeats another one it kills every man in it and uses women as slaves), which lead to man's chromosome being much less diverse. It affects male population negatively, though it seems like through many thousand generations the effect was slowly vanishing.

I think sex differences are a super interesting topic but it's important to also remember that these are true on average, and very few people display 100% "masculine" or "feminine" characteristics! In my opinion, society should treat everyone equally, without enforcing anything - don't force people to conform to gender stereotypes but also don't pressure them not to. We don't know how much of the sex differences are due to biology and how much are due to society - and honestly for humans the distinction between "nature" and "nurture" is very blurred, since the same genes can express themselves differently with different environmental conditions - and we do know a lot of people don't fit those roles well. If the differences are natural and biological, they'll show themselves anyway without us having to enforce anything. If they aren't natural but socially constructed, then enforcing them was forcing people into limiting boxes all along. Either way, no need to enforce it! To me, someone's sex should matter only in the bedroom or the doctor's office. Anywhere else, just treat people as individuals!
There have been cases where people were raised as the opposite sex, without the child being informed of this, and it completely messed up their lives. Biology is real.

As a kid i found a full grown female woman to a girl my age (when i was a kid) to be completely different. Grown women had curves and, for some, large chest that stood out. When they sat a certain way, they looked like sculptures. It makes a boy take notice of it. Compared to them, girls were thin with long arms and legs, to me, looked like long hot dog weiners. As an old man, I have watched hundreds of children grow from an infant to adult and have raised quite a few. I could tell, sometimes by the age of three, what orientation they were going to be as an adult. I have never been surprised. I did not have to be taught to be heterosexual, I assume everyone else has that chosen for them before they or anyone else could have a say, in the womb. I have tried to help children that I knew would be 'different' to be comfortable with who they were. It is not a simple black v white/right v wrong thing. Anyone trying to make it that is trying to skin a cat that is still alive. My concern is there is a time in many youth's lives where sexuality is fluid. I have seen this develop into a person eventually wanting to become the opposite sex and I have seen persons grow out of that and become heterosexual, or at least be comfortable with their birth state. It concerns me that a child, before being fully developed, is allowed to make life changing choices before total maturity. If society can be supportive maybe there would be less stress in a young person feeling the need to make drastic changes too soon. IDK, just giving a point of view.

@@samstromberg5593sexuality and sexual orientation are basically the same thing. Gender identity is a different thing entirely. Sexuality has nothing to do with gender.
I agree that some of these minors could grow out of gender dysphoria and later feel regret, but I still don't think these treatments should be unequivocally banned for minors. I think the gatekeeping should go back to how it was 10 or 15 years ago when it was a much more difficult and the therapists tried to hinder and delay it as much as possible. I'm concerned that these days, some therapists are just greenlighting transitions (adult and minors) because they're worried they'll get sued or be labeled anti-trans in provider reviews. The problem is that this only hurts future trans people, because if there are too many angry de-transitioners, these treatments will become increasingly restricted.
Regarding systematically influencing people (e.g. through laws) in order to try to change their behavior, that's generally a very bad idea on multiple levels.
The first problem is, who will assume the authority to say what's desirable and that they have completely thought it through and have understood the nature and the universe sufficiently?
We can look into past attempts and see what happened.
We can also learn from the past what happens when a liberal democracy loses the "liberal" and changes into an authoritative system.

Great video. You used some theories on sexual selection, the ones from Robert Trivers (parental investment).
But as for the part on life expectancy, you didn't consider one huge factor: the chromosomes. Since Xirocostas, Everingham & Moles (2020), it has been demonstrated that the sex with identical chromosomes (XX) lives longer than the one with different chromosomes (XY). Thus, females humans have the XX chromosomes and live longer, whereas female birds have the XY chromosomes and their life expectancy is shorter than their male counterparts.

@@samstromberg5593 it's because when the X chromosome carries a harmful (and recessive) gene, the dominant one on the other X chromosome is expressed instead. But when a harmful gene is present on the X chromosome of a male, it's expressed anyways, as the other chromosome (Y) doesn't carry the same sets of genes.
That's the reason why some diseases like hemophilia and muscular dystrophy are far more prevalent with men.

It's not that simple. Go back to the early 1900s and life expectancy was the same for males and females.
It probably has to do with many factors, including chromosomes and societal differences (e.g. far better medical care for women than men).

Drama for biological facts let's begin
Something could be as natural as the birds and the bees. Bees appreciate their stingers because they're bees. But humans tend to be averse to what is natural. (Perhaps raised in a family who didn't want to get into bees because they had a bad experience.) To illustrate, if some humans had a choice, they would remove all stingers from bees just to get honey with ease, simply because they don't want to get stung. So, a human's desire is not always based on another's best interests but can be more based on ultimately harming another creature, raiding their resources for a selfish desire. To hunger is natural; To hunger for what is unnatural is quite another. My point? Not everything humanity desires is natural.
Don't get me started with birds being wiped out because they were considered pests, and seedless fruit.

I think gender-identification is hugely influenced by the society. I am a woman and I am heterosexual, but 1:20 - 1:30 was exactly how I spent my childhood. According to my parents, I hang out with the boys until I reached about 8 or 9 years old. In my memory, parents of my classmates raised sons and daughters differently. One simple example, no parent that I knew let their sons wear skirt. It’s like: we were taught to behave in the way that matches the expectations of our birth gender.

Interesting. I learnt that intersex was a variation of the sex, not a spectrum. So XXY, is still genetically male, but one who may suffer more health complications, even XYY (also male) whom may be taller than most, typically has more cognative difficulties than their average XY counterpart.
Turner syndrome, for example, is a woman only sex variation, where they are missing an X chromosome, and whilst it doesn't affect intelligence, can affect spatial visualization, tend to be unable to have children without medical intervention, and have a greater chance of suffering from visual or hearing problems.
Point being, I always learnt that even within the intersex group, there is still a genetic binary of whether the person is male or female, but with a chromosomal defect.

What are you talking about?
Most (not all) "hermaphrodites" are sterile - they can't 'reproduce via themselves'. You appear to be referencing intersex people, now referred to as people with DSDs (Disorders/Differences of Sexual Development). There are a variety of chromosomal issues leading to DSDs, but vanishingly rare are those born with two sets of external organs, albeit functional ones. Most go unnoticed except by close family and medical professionals, and several do not manifest until puberty.
DSD people deserve our respect and support, and should be allowed to make their own decisions regarding medical interventions with informed consent at an appropriate age.

It's like how most houses are built on land, not water. Some people have built some house boats, but the reality that land is more stable leads society towards land-based houses. The society then reinforces the norm that houses belong on land, and the reality of land being stable continues to reinforce the societal practice.
I agree. What a lot of men don't realize, is girls do often have interests in other things but they are very quickly shut down. It's not uncommon for girls to be given a talking by the adults that "you shouldn't behave like that, it's not ladylike." There are lots of girls who engaged in typical feminine interests only because their parents told them to do it. That's not to say no girls are feminine, but at lot of it is forced and eventually becomes habit.

However I’d venture a guess that this may be due to the physical and reproductive differences alone coupled with inadequate safety/policing and lack of birth control. You’d expect the model we (and many other cultures) developed under these conditions. However the removal of those factors would blow away the foundation of societal gender roles if (big if) they are the sole relevant differences.

The members of the lgbt community that make headlines for being sensitive and reactionary are not the majority (if they were, it wouldn't be headline worthy would it?). I am not an arbiter by any means, but what I am is someone that's tired of people watching any video that has the word "gender" in it and going "uh oh, here comes woke police" or some variation of that sentiment. A video mentioning gender won't receive backlash if it isn't offensive, and this video wasn't offensive, it wasn't rude, it wasn't even excluding anyone. The video brings up how about 1 in 5000 are born as intersex showing that sex in humans isn't always regular 100% male or 100% female - so why is the socially constructed idea of genders limited to only two? Modern society has shown that there are plenty of people who don't identify in the standard binary fashion when it comes to gender.
You need to learn the difference between sex and gender, before making those comments . Those words are not synonymous.

@CommadoreGothnogDragonheart i can't copy and paste the links right now, but 1 Google search will show you many reliable sources with evidence that opposes this video. The only thing I've found supporting this in any way is 1 study that says women have better pain tolerance for specific things, but men are more pain tolerant in general.
They specifically mention ultra endurance runs, so longer than marathons. Women actually consistently outperform men in 200+ mile distances, so this is correct. They also specifically mention that men are bigger and stronger than women, so they’re not really trying to say women can rival men physically.

@@TheOutlierToday I don’t know, I’ve heard theories that it has to do with higher body fat percentage women have? Maybe that allows them to store more energy for ultra distance runs? The top male outliers still destroy the top female outliers though, but on average women have the edge in 195+ miles
One thing that often gets left out of the matter of feminism or gender equality is that equity is also necessary. Yes, the difference between a man and a woman are slim, so deserve to be treated equally fairly. But, women and men also have different needs and struggles, so the equity of separate Women's Rights and Men's Rights is very important, yet underrated.
No-one "assigns sex at birth". Narture assigns sex. Midwives / doctors merely describe what they see as the newborn child emerges from his / her mother.

The language of the book is stilted and old-fashioned to modern sensibilités but the warnings and descriptions of how despots acquire and keep power are bang up to date.
Read a biography of George Orwell (real name Eric Blair) and learn his personal political journey. He had an interesting life.
Do that and, I promise, you will be well on the way to understanding the present evil.
Sex differences built are society
I'm of the opinion that we don't need to be reducing differences or swapping roles. We have these strengths for good reason, and should play to those.
I would tend to agree…once we know for sure they’re biological. If they’re not, the first culture to desegregate will have a significant advantage over others by using their human ressources more efficiently.

Our differences mean more men have to work jobs, period. We aren't as useful to the species when we merely act as sperm donors. We don't naturally, on average, have as much social intuition and empathy as women, so their strengths play towards child-rearing as well.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I was raised in an evangelical Christian bubble, and we were ALL taught to care for each other. All the media we were allowed to see reinforced it, etc.. But, all of us boys still struggled to learn empathy and gentleness, while the girls took to it more naturally.

I spent a lot of my life clinically depressed, but that subsided after the surgeries relieved my dysphoria and now I'm pretty happy in myself. I have great friends and a loving family. My life isn't perfect but I'm more happy than not.

If anything there are actually more than 1 in 5000. Intersex traits can be easily overlooked, a lot of people are probably intersex without knowing it. I've seen estimates of 1 in 2000.
1 in 5000 is actually quite conservative as an estimate, because there's a lot of different definitions as to what can count as intersex which can push the number up - One number which appeared multiple times in articles citing one study says its one in every 5500 births, or 0.018% of the people. If the number given by the video seems inadequate, you can try to research it a little bit on your own with google.

Firstly, intersex 'nonsense' is literally biology, you can check for yourself. And secondly, many intersex people have no visible evidence of being intersex to an outside observer, and many intersex people don't know they're intersex for decades or the entirety of their life. Chromosome anomalies like klinefelter syndrome (XXY chromosome) is a physical phenomenon when gets 2 X chromosomes instead of 1 and makes *SEX* more ambiguous. The absolute best times do belong to males right now, but we are not talking chasms of difference. Drop the top ten percent and the data gets pretty muddy. This channel, albeit not as guilty, is a "food for the masses" type of education - everything in here is chewed down to a puree of easy understanding all the while sacrificing scientific complexity as a result. In science, very few things have a definitive and short answer that can be fit in a six minute video. I mostly have a gripe with very wide generalizations regarding behavioral differences and how much influence they have on individuals; this video is attempting to present people as purely the result of their environment. The second half of the video is made almost completely of very subjective interpretations and opinions: health, social influences of sex differences, speculations on legal policies, concerns of infidelity reducing people to mere animals. I would not let my child watch video without having to give them an extensive lecture of different cultures of the world and how we as individuals are responsible for our own actions, men and women alike.
