If I could have dinner with any figure from human history, Stephen Jay Gould would be on my shortlist.
Mr. Gould's books are rivetting. A door into a world few of us have even imagined existed.
He's much more open in this one than when he's working on "a glorious incident". wonder why that is.
Got divorced and remarried and moved to SoHo?
First time watching an interview with him. I guess I assumed that being a respected scholar, he'd be really stodgy, but he's so bubbly and good-natured!
he's a charming atheist who doesn't believe in anything at all. he is sure to wear out his welcome soon.
as a geophysicist, I consider him a political hack who uses the data to support his bizarre thinking
Jeez! You get him as wrong as you possibly can. And being a geophysicist doesn’t lend your opinion credibility, incidentally. 🙄
@@christopherhamilton3621 steven jay gould is charming but he is still a bs atheist who sums nature up with "we can never know" -- only someone who considers themself outside of animal nature would come to that conclusion... but how is that scientific?
@@jfreeman2927 Can you site in any of his writings or interviews where he actually claimed "we can never know"?
@@CBC68 this statement was inspired by an interview called "A Glorious Accident" ... it is fascinating but now i'm not sure if he exactly said "we can never know." this might have been a Rupert Sheldrake thing.
@@jfreeman2927 I actually have the entire "A Glorious Accident" on VHS and have watched it many times. I haven't watched the Sheldrake episode in some years since it's my least favorite of the series so I can't recall if he said or implied such a thing. His ideas, while somewhat interesting are just too out there for me.
