He's a bachelor and he practices celibacy/bhramcharya. He thinks of all women as his mother. When a woman looks upto him as a husband or lover, it hurts and disappoints him. That's actually a sin. This applies to all gods who practice celibacy bhramcharya. Lord shiva, vishnu,krishna,ganesha has wives and are exception to this.
