A single grain of sand blown into an eye at the beach sucks, so imagine Bruno Silva's agony when Weidman phalange blasted Bruno's eyes (plural) all the way to the first knuckle! Dude probably still has nightmares about Chris's fingers closing in towards his eyes in slow motion, but being powerless to prevent the inevitable penetration.
couldn't agree more. The amount of times you see multiple warnings for nut shots, cage grabs, and eye pokes compared to how many times a point actually gets taken has to be an insane ratio
One foul = warning Second foul = point deduction Third foul = another point deduction Fourth foul = DQ and 3 months banned Foul caused injury? 6 months.
Your editing is absolutely on point with this. I saw the Jon Jones shadow in there :) Also, the UFC did Trevor Wittman dirty by insisting they would only use his glove design if they could take his patent on them.
hahaha im glad you caught it. And yeah I feel terrible for Trevor lol I'd like to get my hands on one of his gloves and compare to the new gloves and see if they copied the design or not
I think eye pokes should be automatic 1 point . Incentivize the fighter to keep there fists clenched and i don’t have to hear the refs yell “fingers!” At the fighters. Keep palm open and risk a point
@@Apple_Slices. nah because eye pokes are way too effective, there's a statistic that in ufc matches, ~70% individuals who get eye poked in the first round lose the fight, one is far too devastating already
@@Apple_Slices. They may also accidentaly knee downed opponent in the head. They get DQ'd when they do, but they are fine when they shove their fingers in someones eye. And let's be honest. @@marekdycjan9637 nah but a knee to a downed opponent is pretty intentional as you can see they are downed and choose to knee. If we look at a fight like Holloway vs Gaethje, Holloway got 2 eye pokes for having his hands kind of open and Gaethje just kind of running into them accidentally. It’s not really either of their fault but I think it just deserves a warning. Though with any new system the second one wouldn’t have happened as we even saw Max close his fists for a bit to avoid an eye poke after the second.
If they made gloves that stopped eye pokes then jon jones wouldn't be in the ufc anymore If dana and fans want jon jones in the ufc then they cant ban eye pokes
If you eye poke your opponent in the first round your chances of winning go up significantly. I think your odds go to around 56%, can't remember exactly. Might not seem huge, but it really is.

I agree, eyepokes shoud be and automatic point deduction even if it's accidental, guys would stop swiping at faces if they knew it would cost a point immediately. The first 1 costs a point, second one is 25% of your purse and the 3rd bumps it to 50% and a DQ. It's not the topic but those aren't the anti-eyepoke gloves that Joe hand on his podcast either, they are literally a thumbless version of those cheap Walmart knockoffs that they used to sell 10 years ago for 30 bucks. I know they are because I have a pair if new ones and a few pairs of old Walmart ones and aside from the thumb and slighlty thicker padding they are identical.

I do think something has to be done about eye pokes but I don't know if your solution is the right one. Eyepokes are a case by case thing. Accidental eye pokes do happen. Also fighters often believed they got eye poked but in reality they got punched in the face. Should they get a point taken for an honest mistake? I believe refs should still have the power to take a point or not. The changes I'd make though is have the eye poke reviewed to determine if they eye poke did happen (they might already do this, I'm not for sure though right now) if it was an eye poke, the ref should take into consideration previous eye poke offenses of the fighter in previous fights and determine if the fighter should get a point taken or not. Some with false eye pokes. I know leaving a decision to a ref is not the greatest thing but I can't think of a way to have a set in stone rule that doesn't punish accidents
Definitely get where you're coming from. The only reason I'd say I lean in the direction of no warning is because regardless of accident or not, the other fighters eye probably won't be at 100% for the rest of the fight. I appreciate the comment and you taking the time to watch!
I know Joe rogan’s said he wishes they’d get rid of the cage, but I think it’s just too much a part of the ufc (and mma as a whole because pretty much every other mma org uses a cage now as well) I know they’d never do it, but I think the PRIDE ring was amazing
