I remember when I first showed this movie to my wife when she was my girlfriend. She still brings up how I traumatized her by showing her this film and resents me to this day. This was her first and last David Lynch movie. Thanks Sean for the video!
@malfuncsean The field with the ear is the rugby ground at 209 Lake Drive, Wilmington. The trail entrance is directly opposite the entrance to Snipes Academy of Arts & Design, which can also be seen at the beginning of the film with the kids crossing the street. Not my info but managed to find out the location. Should have asked me dude. Great episode as usual. 👍
Barbary Coast is the best bar there.. well, was in 05. That was Brandon Lee's favorite when filming The Crow. I went to all the locations, the staircase outside of Fun Boy was the alley in between Port City Java, and the apparently now defunct Screen Gems tour. All they had at the time was One Tree Hill sets and a short film on their history but, never mentioned The Crow or Stage 4. Ofcourse multiple hurricanes repeatedly destroyed the Backlot and at the time most recently Martin Lawrence's Black Knight set. I believe the apartments also used the 4th floor for Albrecht's apartment. Love your work and collections,Kind Sir!🤘😊
I've had this intro song stuck in my head the last month, and I don't even fucking care. XD You're the man, Sean! Love your locations, love your videos, I'm a binge-watching fool over here!
Blue Velvet is the kind of film that darkly washes over a person. I was almost surprised at the conflicting feelings when I first saw it in the 80's - like these are things I should not be seeing. Glossy, cheerful Americana is peeled back to reveal a festering and sickening rot beneath. Curiosity and innocence, represented by Jeffrey and Sandy, meet a wounded victim trapped by depravity, sadism, and evil. There is no telling how it will end. David Lynch was true to his vision and created a masterpiece for the ages. Thank you for showing the filming locations where I'm sure many dramas continue behind the closed doors in "Lumberton." I wonder how much the brief river scene location has changed. The Frank's Place building and lot looked older and more worn out in the movie than it does today.
The river scene I wish I had grabbed. I realized I missed it when I got back to California. It’s easy to find. The camera is looking across the river towards the back of Barbary Coast aka Ben’s Place. You can see it from street view in Google Earth. It hasn’t changed much.
The guy that almost nailed you with the caulking gun was probably a friend of the guy that kept flipping you off when you were filming the Halloween III location used for the Rose of Shannon Motel. The dude is still pissed 😄
Thanks Sean for finding all these locations while you were doing the Halloween Kills locations video. I've always mentioned this film when discussing Twin Peaks. Because if not for this film we wouldn't have the other. It's weird that as time goes on this film gets a little less known. It shouldn't tho. It's the perfect example of a slow burn, modern noir. Well Take care and see you in the next HHG!
I just live for your intro. This movie by far was one of the oddest movies I've ever watched. To be honest I found it deeply disturbing and very sad which tells me that the acting was fantastic. Had the mood and the characters not been so believable I don't think I would have finished watching it. Something that really stands out to me is how beautiful the neighborhoods were that they filmed in and how amazing you well the homes have been cared for.
The guy twirling something in front of the store @12:53 ("now Port City Java") is standing in front of the Buy-Rite store. The Buy-Rite can be seen in the night driving scene immediately before the Dodge pulls up to Ben's Place... Buy-Rite has big blue lettered sign they zoom past. The Buy-Rite, closed in 1989, took up the entire bottom floor of the 1899, five story, 61K sq foot Masonic Temple building. Dennis Hopper bought the building, renovated (at least somewhat) the building, and built a loft apartment that was one of his permanent residences. He was going to create an acting workshop / school there but died before that happened.
This is fantastic, Sean! Absolutely does David Lynch belong in the horror cannon. So many of his films have terrifying horror imagery. Rather than name-drop the obvious ones, I'm gonna send a shout-out to a Lynch film barely anyone saw: Inland Empire. Love that you include this in HHG. Keep up the good work!
You would think, Twin Peaks has such a huge cult following. I knew a woman who dressed up as the fish in the percolator as a Halloween costume. Talk about an obscure costume!
Death by caulk gun! I’m glad it missed, Whew! Thank you for another great video Sean. I like the way you use your camera to mimic the movement of the original movies camera work so it makes it easy for us to catch the history. The part where you said I’m still volunteering the information is why we love you man! Awesome close reminds me of lost highway👍🤘🏻
Haha I live in that apartment building in Wilmington. Built in 1905, lots of crap has filmed here. Great old apartments. Love this building. 420 Market St!
I'm going to be in bad taste here, but I fell in love with the guy in Showgirls. First time I came across him. I love his character there. My type of dude. Abusive, evil, and all around bad. He pulls that off very well. Nicely done. Blue Velvet is a classic though. The locations are still there. I'm impressed, and the soul is still there, to a point. Lovely to see.
Sean, so glad you were not hit by that “ufo”!!! another amazing video! what I remember most about this film is feeling freaked out by Dennis Hopper sucking on that gas!! Lol, the look on his face was creepy!! sorry for loss of JC. Glad he is in the Horrors HG’s intro!!!🙏🏽🤘🏻❤️🔥

Been to most of these locations myself, was many years ago, could walk up the back staircase at Dorthy's then, the big gate wasn't there. I don't know 100% for sure, but I heard the shots of Jeffrey and Sandy sitting in the Slow Club were actually filmed in a club called The Mad Monk which has since burned down, again not sure but I played at that venue many times and it looks like it, can see the wooden beams, PA speakers behind Frank which means he would have had his back to the real stage in that club, but it had a big open area that would have been ideal for filming in. After the club burned down it reopened at another location and I saw Dennis Hopper there once at a BODY COUNT show (I think Dennis was living near there for a time), Ice T called him out, "My man Dennis Hopper in the house... He'll fuck anything that moves!". Wilmington is a fun town, thanks for making this.
