Lyrics:
Don't tell me to stop
Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the wind not to blow
'Cause you said so, mmm
Tell the sun not to shine
Not to get up this time, no, no
Let it fall by the way
But don't leave me where I lay down
Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not
But please don't tell me to stop
Tell the leaves not to turn
But don't ever tell me I'll learn, no, no
Take the black off a crow
But don't tell me I have to go
Tell the bed not to lay
Like the open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees
Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not
But don't ever tell me to stop
(Don't you ever) Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
(Don't you ever) Tell me everything I'm not
But don't ever tell me to stop
(Don't you ever)
Please don't
Please don't
Please don't tell me to stop
(Don't you ever tell me) Don't you ever
Don't ever tell me to stop
(Tell the rain not to drop)
Tell the bed not to lay
Like a open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees

Hands down one of her BEST songs!!
She looked gorgeous in this video. I still think her early 40s was when she looked her best
I thoroughly agree!

Well Said me from Halifax N.S. Canada.
This song and Frozen are Modonna's best work
So grateful I lived as a young guy thru these years, nothing's around now.
The orchestral ending to this song is fucking incredible.
Agreed its such a simple but moving melody :)
I need a extended version with that orchestral ending longer
My favorite part ❤
CHILLS AND TEARS EVERY TIME
Concordo
One of Madonna's best songs and is underrated for its originality. 23 years old and it still holds up. Nostalgic and heartfelt with the orchestral strings echoing the sentiment that time is moving and we cannot stop it. Complimented by the Wild West theme.
Geez 23 years already, seems like yesterday when this came on vh1
Well said!
#btw
All her songs hold up she’s a phenomenon
One of her worst songs.
Madonna declared the female leadership at the turn of the 21st century. Such a prophetic song
The beat is so good, loved it back in 2000 and still loving it in 2024. Definition of a timeless hit ❤
OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE LEGEND
Coming here after The Celebration Tour in Rio. Shoutout to the editor of this videoclip!
Anyone got that random feeling to listen to Madonna?
U meant 2 zay ransom ran som......👹
Yup. Madonna day today, all day :)
An urge
Причем именно песни 90-х и начала 2000-х
Every day
One of the best music videos of all time.
I think this might be the most beautiful thing she ever did. Underrated. She was 42, the same age Beyoncé is now (2024) when embarking on an exploration of country music. It's different (I think her whole record will be country, and B is actually from the South), but it's fascinating to see the parallels.
I did not appreciate this at the time. It's gorgeous. This was really against the grain for when it came out to mesh so many genres. The choreography is so fun and it looks like they had a ball doing it.
Madonnas song is way catchier that Beyonces
This was an one time thing. This album wasn't a country album or an attempt at one.
@@77bluegold Madonna was the first to subvert country music style. ‘Don’t Tell Me’ was the beginning of country music breaking in to the pop world. You don’t have to devote a whole album to be the first to take the country music genre and spin it on its head…just one great song will do it ☺️
@@MelanieJolie I'm gonna need a fact check on this comment 😂
Madonna is really the source of inspiration to every pop female artist in existence
Catch it beyonce😂
♥️👍🎸🐐🔥
Take that Queen B
1) Music isn't even a country album 2) Shania Twain was doing country & adding pop influences before Madonna. Like c'mon now
i agree, shania was the pioneer of merging country and pop music, but she’s a country artist (like dolly parton), as a main pop artist, i cannot think of many who have tried country aesthetic and sound before madonna (i’m not saying it didn’t exist, but it wasn’t popular until she did it)
You just can’t compete with madonnas creativity and artistry …. She’s just a solidified icon
There’s no truer bliss than hearing this for the first time when you’re 8, rebellious, and hanging out with your parents in a diner in the middle of cowboy country.
There's a special magic about this video.....
True 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
This was choreographed perfectly.
Thanks for all the likes. 😊❤

Of course ! This is Madonna !
Yeah. It really is fantastic.
I couldn’t do her foot stuff if you taught me for a week straight!!
Love this period in Madonna's career. The songs were beautifully crafted.
Yeahh
Music is definitely one of my favorite Madonna albums and albums in music in general
Im beginning to understand her newer attitude now because Im getting older now too! I loved her when I was a pee brained kid! And she'll never stop sounding or looking that good!!!!
I love David
You are so right. Totally agree.
I never thought of this song as country. It never played on any country radio in my area. I just thought it was a really cool electronic/pop/dance song with some country influence. I just thought it was mostly the aesthetic not that she was doing real country music. I love this song.
At the time country and Native American influences were really popular in fashion.
A little reminder: The queen did it long before Beyoncé

Mirwais Ahdadzaï and her did amazing job yes wich aging like fine wine just has Ray Of Light with Orbit
This wasn’t a country/pop album!! What are you talking about?
There's no "country" element in the song itself - only the style and dance of western culture with hunky guys - in a sultry-sounding pop song. Madonna did a great job implementing this western cowboy style into the video for greater visual appeal. Nicely done!
Cowboy Carter made me revisit this legendary track
Facts just to see how it's supposed to be done... This is a classic by a none country singer, Madonna was so smooth and organic with it I would've bought a album by her if she pursued it, Beyonce's introduction feels "forced" I can't describe the feeling
@@TheRealBabylonian the lyrics for Hold em Texas was so horrible
Anybody else on a Madonna video binge and totally blown away by her versatility? She is the queen of reinventing herself.
Exactly. Stephen Sondheim passed, who wrote Sooner Or Later, that she sand on the Oscars. Since yesterday, It's been awesome. Sondheim also wrote West Side Story.
Yeah I binge on Madonna once in a while. I can’t imagine my childhood without her many songs and her myriad of images ❤️❤️❤️
Madonna and Janet. The queens of music. So much diversity in their catalogue. Both of their greatest hits albums are enough music you ever need honestly.

Madonna reinvents everything! This is how you do Country and Pop together. I hope Beyoncé's Act 2 has things like this
B now has her forgetable phase.
And just when Jay-Z thinks Queen B is the original , think again. You got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one.
