Dave has lined the whole of the area with a membrane that does not allow water to soak away (like a pond liner does). Then on top of the membrane there is 6" of gravel, with broken slates laid on top, with a layer of woodchip, then anothe layer of broken slates. The point of the slates is twofold. Firstly, it stops the soil falling into the gravel, which would stop the freeflow of water through the gravel. Secondly, the slates make it much harder for someone to lunge a spade, fork or cane into the membrane to cause a leak which would be hard to mend. The broken slates allow osmosis of the water up into the soil, and for roots to reach into the water.
I just ordered a green house with the floor in. I like yours being on the ground, looks like the best way to go.
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks!❤️🇨🇦
What a great idea - well done!
Top stuff Dave
Those courgettes are amazing, must smell amazing in there.
Brilliant Dave!
It's pissing now. 👍
How do the plants get water if you have the barrier between the soil and gravel? Or does the moisture travel up past the barrier.
