It's weird that so much time has passed that we are now nostalgic for the early 2000s. I'm 42 and it's scary how fast it went by.

The magic of this song is in remembering how when you were young, you listened to this song and loved it for the beats, yet to meet people in your life that you didn't know existed. Then days passed and years passed and we met them and lost those special people to time and circumstances. Now, 18 years later when, you are no longer a kid with infinite possibilities and the world being your oyster and having developed the ability to feel the pull of nostalgia and "what-could-have-been" on your heart strings, this really, really hits hard.

I woke up needing this song, because I needed someone while I was asleep and then I woke up… She’s always with me but never really here. I dream of the one girl I’ve ever really loved, and she seems so real in dream state that I swear sometimes I could feel her, but it’s merely an illusion: The Cruelest Illusion. There’s nothing like a dream of unrequited love to ruin my day before it starts.

In high school this was just a song and a track off a "Best of" genre cd. Now, 20 years later it's a song about the one that got away who no matter what whether you're married, single or dating you think about someone you once knew who you would do anything to have back. The video is the essence of loss, regret and moving on with life but not really moving on. Like the people in the video say: He does it every year in hopes she'll come back. 20 years later it's a song that will have you thinking about the one you met at a club who you shared a brief summer with, like myself, who sadly they're married now and moved on but you will always hold those best times with you.

I was finally well enough to change the hospital tv from the news, to mtv. I remember still being so drugged up, that I felt like I was there watching him dance.

My favourite part of this music video is the end of it. Although the dancing guy didn't get his lover back (outside of his own mind), the two middle aged people who were watching him all day might've found love over a cup of coffee. It's almost as if the dancing broke through their jadedness and made them believe in the possibility of love again. ❤💚💙

I guess the message in this song is a universal one that transcends time and language as well. I'll always remember her, it's bittersweet and I wish things could have been different, but I'm grateful I got to know her at all. I think many of us here and perhaps billions around the world have a similar story and feel a similar way about somebody special to them, I'll always love this song for that reason, much love to anyone who may be reading this, you are awesome and I wish you all the best in the days to come.
