- This is a complete re- scape of my 29-gallon bow-face aquarium. These are the substrates I use for my planted aquarium setups. Check out my try at some "Substrate lasagna" made popular by @LRBaquatics . Thank you so much for watching please remember to share this content with others!
Here is my whole cringy playlist of old videos. Made me laugh. ruclips.net/video/OswGy8jl0-w/видео.html
Reminds me of my live stream from yesterday. LOL
Thank you, that was clear, well done and enjoyable!
EXCELLENT, in every way!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for sharing the re-scape. As an observer I like the white sand to bounce light back up into the plants. Looking forward to the reveal vid.
Looking great!
If it wasn't for you I would have quit plants all together about a year ago. Now 14 out of 15 tanks have plants.
@@tompatterson5453 Thats awesome!
It looks Amazing.
Once the Plants at the bag grow and fill out, it will look Fabulous.
Thank you very much for sharing.
Have a great week Sir.
Lovely tank in the end.
I truly love the foam idea j.h .i the deeper substrate and adding red clay powder is a win win in my book for heavy root feeder and running plants will carpet better n always have better luck when i also add sand with eco complete.keep it brother u doing a incredible job .
Love the rescape 👍😊💛
Looks great! I love all the small rocks.
It came out really nice! I like that layered look of the substrate in the front.
It is chef's kiss!!!!!!!! Love it!!!!
Looks great Joseph...
My substrate system is: 1. crushed lava stone in the back to build height, 2 .5 inch of organic potting soil 3. I take a pack of seachem root tabs, crush them into powder and sprinkle that down,. 4. I take my fluval stratum, put it in a bucket, put flourish advanced in a spray bottle, spray down the stratum until damp, let it dry then add that. 5. Plain stratum on top as cap. Very effective
Have you had any problems with the dirt coming through the stratum? I know stratum is very light so i’m worried about that if i did this method
Beautiful
The more the fishtank room is a mess, the better looks the fishtank. Nice job!
I loved it! Subscribed
Great job. I was a little surprised that the foam didn’t float.
It's very nice.. Dude....
I use Lighting Defuser to protect the bottom of the aquarium from rocks that can crack the bottom of the tank. It is made of plastic, so it acts like a layer of protection.
Cool video, very interesting. I'll be setting up some new tanks very soon or maybe just one big one so its now highly likely I'll try this or something similar for substrate lol
Wow! And I don't mean to say that like I'm shocked, because I'm not. We knew you did awesome work, but that really looked fabulous! Sorry I missed the premiere. I was thinking Father Fish would love this and then he showed up and even said it himself! You really are doing wonderful things these days! Can't wait to see what's next! 😁🐠🐟🐡💙☘🌿🌱
Awww. Thank you so much..I am trying. I am glad you appreciate it.
I've been getting rattled choosing substrates (the aesthetics, I have a handle on the point of 'dirt', lol), thanks for making me think outside the box (er, tank). I have been getting really OCD about tones and forms. I need to be BOLD.
I appreciate the video. I have been searching everywhere for this exact scenario for a redo. Question.. I planted using organic potting soil, why did you keep the dirt and start layering top of if? Bedenfits of keeping it or get rid of and start new?
Substrate lasagna. Perfect. An excellent creation of a rich, dirted substrate capped with sand. NICE!!
I agree about the large rocks in a small tank. Tried it. Did not like it.
Thanks 👍
I added a 3 layer dirted substrate sandwich to my 20 gallon high probably a little too high but oh well.Just wondering what supplements I need add to my soil for plants
Been aquascaping since the 80s, not once have I ever needed 5 layers of substrate. Never even needed 3.
Great scape...I've only been doing planted tanks for a year keeping fish about 20. My first attempt at root tabs spiked my ammonia 8.0 with one tab. (GreenPro tabs) with a loss of fish. Curious what brand those are?
The idea is they are buried 3 + inches below the substrate.
You need a deep substrate of 4"and a cap of sand at least 1" for tabs not to spike your ammonia...
@@richardwebb9532 thank you, I bought some and thank goodness have not used them yet. I have been stingy with substrate, filling in with foam and lava bags, and I doubt that putting them under THAT is a great idea, the roots will never reach. I have to rethink some thoughts.
I'm really looking forward to redoing one of my tanks. I think Lucas and Father Fish have really swayed me toward deep substrate. That is going to truly be nutrient rich! What sand is that because I have about 50lbs of that Mexican blue/gray river rock and I love the contrast!
Sounds like a plan!!! :)
@@JHAquatics The rock is very nice but it is not a cap. Find some darker colored sand to cap the soil layers.
How has the tank evolved compare to other substrated tanks.? I love your idea to layer is like that.
Looks awesome what's going into this tank now & would CO2 be good into.
What kind of nutrient boost does the red clay provide? Mmm, lasagna 😋
Iron :)
Lasagna gardening on the outside garden is not a new concept to me, I'm glad to see the principles I know apply in the tank as well.
What happened to this tank after all? Any updates?
I gave it to a young person that was very into fish keeping before I left the Islands.
I'm sad because I just realized this tank/scape isn't coming with you when you move in :(...gonna have to replicate it when you're here :)
OMG! No tank? What about the fishies? Are they coming with? 😲🐟🐟🐟🐟
Sad but true
The fish and plants are being shipped. Tanks stay.
Jamber video the rescape. Just another reason for another good video.
Great job, also helps that you are handsome! LOL
Question what’s the benefits of adding clay?
Also it I wanted to layer my thank with gravel and a fine sand will I put soil mix first, than gravel in after and finish with sand or sand first and gravel as a finisher?
Any updated on this tank?
I am planning some layers dear for my own aquarium.
Awesome! Wish you could take it with you so we could observe it with you long term. Oh well...as Amber said, you'll just have to replicate it when you get settled in. Love how this one looks.
👍💕👍
I learned that capping medium substrates with finer substrates, eventually the fine substrate drops to the bottom and the bigger comes out on top.
Nature never lies, thank you for reminding me that as cream rises, sediment settles lol.
@@voluntaryismistheanswer lol ok
Yes it does. If you don't want that you can use filter bags.
No yes no yes no yes no yes, shall I, maybe yes maybe no maybe ys maybe no, I'm worse than the wife.
Holy shit. Have you ever heard of maintenance? Place must smell like a dying swamp.
Try it. You will be shocked b the health of these environments. Smells like rich earth. Nothing foul about it.
Right a healthy fish room/house does not smell. If it smells there must be some Cyanobacteria or dead fish somewhere.
completely unnecessary, just stratum is all you need, i know its expensive but in a tank that size a £30 8kg bag is plenty, even capping is unnecessary. I have a 300 litre tank with stratum only i have bristlenose plecos and corys, they dont kick it up at all.
plus do not pay attention to the squeeze an old sponge technique he showed, beneficial bacteria is not in the water from a sponge ! he should have put the old sponge in the new setup and put the new sponge in the other established tank.
That tank looks awful dear
