I spent the last week working on the family cabin. We have been fighting a losing battle with the mice and other dead animals for the last 20 years. Its hard trying to have a civilized structure out in the middle of nowhere. Feel free to watch us prepare for our last stand against the vermin who laugh at property ownership rights.
Grab some popcorn, or a trashcan to throw up in... (whichever you need) in order to finish the video.
This video is mostly for entertainment, and not professional mouse fortress instructions. I'll keep this video description updated with how long the cabin holds together. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!!

As someone who installed commercial kitchens - my advice/method for metal roof follows this one, simple rule. Never rely on liquid to keep out liquid. Metal should be lapped so water runs down it. Be sure you have 6" of overlayment then put butyl rubber between (aka flashing sealant). The entire point of the sealant is to keep the air out so water can't get driven up and freeze (thus separating the metal).... with the chimney, the upper roofing should lap over the uphill. Be sure you have double metal on the sides.... sealed forever (or at least until the heat cycle rust destroys the chimney).

The insulation is used by the mice not as food but as bedding for nests. Its interesting how different European construction is to US construction. Amazing how much of the inner structure is easily accessible for rodents from the outside and no protection, being in the countryside you have to think of rodent visitors when building. Its a beautiful location and a wonderful little cabin, i would love that sort of thing. Nice to see it being renovated

On large drywall patches like that first one that's about 2 x 6… it's not sufficient to attach to studs in the middle and just one sie… the left side of that floating in the air will always be weak and open to more vibration and movement from bumps or impacts. That will cause your tape/mud/paint to crack over time where that seam is. I"d redo it if I were you from stud to stud only even if that means having to widen it.. It's either that or add another stud right where those two pieces of drywall come together to support them an eliminate the extra flexing potential.

My parents 35 years house is standing on a rocks+concrete foundation which goes 1 meter into the ground. There is also a 1-meter concrete lane around the house. There is space between the wooden floors and the actual zero point ground filled with sand. And each year at the end of the august-first part of September I can hear scratches from 1-3 mice trying to make holes in the wooden floor to go into the house. I checked a few times, there is no gaps\crack in the foundation at all, it's still pretty mysterious how they can get there under the ground.
