That would be an interesting one for next year. I suspect you need to have it grow under lights early spring before moving outside after the last frost.
Thats awesome that the plant itself survived hence the new growth, but did those two short vines from last year survive or did you have to prune those ones to the ground because they died over the winter?
Still below freezing overnight at the moment here in zone 3. But this one planted in a sunnier location grew really well last year after its first winter. I’m waiting for it to leaf out from its second year vines this year. Fingers crossed.
@@ourcozygarden Im also in YEG area. I had one planted last spring and it got huge. I even got one single fruit off of it. Waiting to see if it is going to make a return or not.
The first one at the back since it’s in part shade, is alive but not thriving. But this second one right here is growing vigorously this year for its second year.
@@ourcozygarden I am in Zone 4b. I have an "Issai" kiwi and "Prolific" kiwi. Both planted June 2022. Both lived through the winter, but the Issai died back and regrew. The Prolific did not die back and is doing great. I am about to try putting two more Issai, two Meader, two Anna, and three Chang Bai kiwi in the ground in the next couple days. Hoping to see how well they do through the winter.
I should look for a “Prolific” one then. Does it need a pollinator? Or is it self-pollinating? I went to DNA gardens and their Issai is the same, it dies back every winter but grows harder the next year with more fruits. It becomes herbaceous perennial here in cold climate.
Nice video Randy! I live seeing what other gardeners are doing around the globe. 😀
Thank you!
I love your garden. Keep growing my friend

Thank you very much

The vines did not since those were old growth pre-replanting. Those, we took out.
You two sure have me thinking a lot into considering a hardy kiwi vine 🤔
Yeah, try it in your garden and keep us updated!
I would think the hardy kiwi plant would survive, I am a hardy kiwi and I have survived here for the last 45 years.
One tough kiwi
😂😂😂
Do you know of anyone local to you who is growing it?
No one personally but a number of folks from forums and FB groups said they're growing it, albeit with definite challenges :)
We got an update?

@@ourcozygarden Prolific is a self-pollinating cultivar.
