    Ahhhh yes early ark. You die about 45 times before you get established. I'd recommend getting a pteranodon and flying around the map. There are some really good spots to build. In the middle there's a volcano then next to it metal mountain. Tons of resources. Also those explorer notes give you experience boost. If you are on a mount and hit then the mount gets it too. Easy way to level up. Also early on with mounts if you just hit trees with them it will level the dino up fast. Great video. Excited for the next one.

    • @TizonaAmanthia

      agreed, but pteranodons have such poor weight and stamina....one must pump those stats to stay aloft longer...and generally have an idea of where your next landing spot is gonna be....ahead of time....i've been forced to ground in the middle of the swamp and died to snakes far too often.

    Dealing with the Leeds (big fish) is straightforward. Don't take the raft to the deep waters. Hug the coast in shallows and don't make a run across deep water without having a look around. It's actually quite well balanced no need to remove it. Just don't raft on the deep ocean. It's meant to deter you from doing so

    • @mirastor1796

      The Leed was a fix for the problem when people had 100 rafts at the edge of the map, blocking Dino spawns.

      Yeah, same. I feel it is a wimp move though to simply remove a dino from the game because you don't like it. I rather see people adapt and strategize rather than play god and be like "Nope, that's gone". Where is the challenge in removing anything that causes you pain? This would be like a souls game where a boss beats you every time preventing you from progressing, so instead of learning how to handle it or getting better, you just remove it. Feels cheap to me.

    • @sithknight7740
      @sithknight7740 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Bancheis I think the whole reason the Leeds was added was bc of people flooding official servers with tons of rafts to effectively DDoS them, and so the Leeds cleared em out. It was something I commonly saw in the early days and it caused an extreme amount of lag.

    • @Bancheis
      @Bancheis 11 месяцев назад

      @@sithknight7740 I mean.. it is definitely one way to solve the problem. But it feels a bit like a performance issue caused by mobile bases bobbing up and down in the water rather than simply too many rafts. Server having to keep updating where it is at while chunks are loaded. That is the kind of problem that needs a proper engineering solution rather than a cheap "Well.. just destroy them all. Problem solved." solution lol. They could very well program it so it does not spawn if there are less than 2 or 3 rafts in an area, or even in a server. Feels like a lazy solution to me.

    There's basically two ways of playing Ark, 1) die a lot, or 2) take it very slow and steady, and scale up from tame to tame. I'm not sure there's a middle way. And the natural progression with the carnivores is more raptor to carnosaur to allosaur to therizinosaur, not raptor direct to theri. Some of the herbivorous dinos and mammalian creatures can be very tanky and keep you relatively safe while you're trying to take down the big carnivores.
    You can get to Herbivore Island with minimal exposure to Leedsichthys attack, stay in the shallows until you're directly opposite, pop underwater to check there's no Leeds in the area, then head straight across. There's a fairly small area of deep water in the middle of the channel where the Leeds can get to you, and not enough time for it to reach it as long as you don't dawdle.

    When you level dinos it is important to put points into hp as you level them. Not just damage. The whales only attack boats in deep water though removing them in understandable. Metal harvesting tools gather more, and last longer. Some rocks in the water where you first spawned should let you get a small amount if metal. They will look different not the usual relish brown. Hope that helps

    I used to build house boats 3 stories high using pillars with ceilings on top which let me build outward a few tiles in each direction. I was able to build big enough to store several dinos on the first floor, have a crafting floor, and keep flyers and a feeding troth on the roof. One design I had a large trap door on the roof and would park an Argie and a Ptera inside using the hatch to fly in and out. The raft at the bottom I just put a standing torch, a storage box, and a campfire on. When I need to make a swift exit not having to search for the exposed spot on the raft is helpful.

    A hatch-ceiling will give you a hole to access the raft through...A metal pick would get you more metal a lot easier than a stone pick...The carno baby would've been a better mount/animal harvester than another raptor...you definitely want to harvest everything with a tame...seapking of which, your first raptor probably had chitin in him from eating those ants...I was kind of expecting there to be a leedsycthis based on the title (only sea creature that will attack a raft...stay away froim the open water...amphibious land critters will attack you or tames on a raft...stay away from the swamp until you've met everyone there on land).

  • @bethanymay3056

    🎉 I love this series!! One thing, though, and it's pretty important. 🎯 Do NOT tame anything using the crossbow. 🎯 1, it does a LOT of damage. You run the risk of killing your tame before you tame it. 2. It is slow to reload, and while you reload, your movement speed is drastically slowed down. You can not run when you are reloading your crossbow.
    When every second counts, you want and need something a lot more responsive that you can fix and reload on the fly. Reloading an arrow into your bow does not slow you down. You can rapid-fire arrows using your bow. You can also repair your bow on the fly with fiber, wood, and thatch. The crossbow can only be repaired in the smithy. And yes, some of the beasts in this game at high levels require you to even have two rifles to use because you will break one during the taming process and will need a backup.
    I actually never make the crossbow. It's just not worth it unless you want a weapon to kill things with. I usually run around with 2 bows, stuff to repair them with on the fly, and tranq arrows. If I have to kill anything, I go with melee weapons if I don't have a Dino nearby.
    Your bow and arrow, as primitive as they are, are absolutely the best until you can craft tranq darts and the long barrel rifle. You do not want to use the crossbow. It's a hindrance and a weapon that's meant to kill, not tame.
    When you can make the rifle and tranq darts, you will want 2 rifles. That's all I will say. I hope you see this before you learn the hard way that crossbows suck for taming. 😅😅😅 Much love.

    • @gregorskiff
      @gregorskiff Год назад +1

      Torpor scales with damage and not many creatures require darts (direbear for one), those can die from a crossbow with tranq arrows.
      If the crossbow is killing with tranq arrows, the creature was damaged beforehand or it had a super low health stat...that is very rare.

    Build traps for taming. 3x3 stone trap, 2-3 window-walls high, ramp on one side, door on opposite side (for you to run out). Trap will work for most any med-large ground dino up to a T-Rex. Also, you should increase gather rates a bit more and decrease taming time a lot. Grinding and waiting around is a waste of your time and sucks the fun out of ARK.

    It's best to find a really safe place to build your first base in the beginning. Don't take too much stuff on a raft as the Leedsichthys will go after your boats. Or stay closer to the land in the shallows where it can't get to you. As you know you will die a lot beginning game. You need stronger tames, armor and weapons. When you can, get a grappling hook so you can grapple up high if possible and get away from predators. Then shoot down at them.
    EDIT: Lol, I don't blame you for taking the Leedsichthys out of the game. They are a real pain and a menace in the beginning game.

    They are some tips I have from my time of playing Ark.
    Though I should point out they are from Ark Survival Evolved. I am in the process of finding out if they still hold true for Ascended.
    When you level up your character. Invest points in Fortitude.
    It will increase your characters resistance to things like poison and other debuffs. It also has the added bonus of making you harder to freeze during colder weather changes and heatwaves.
    I would also suggest you invest in flak armour. The metal armour set if you are ever going up against Troodons. Even the basic set should keep you alive when the poison their bite knocks you out with, and will allow you to endure the running and biting attacks they; do when you are unconcious. Long enough to get back up and dispatch them.
    However your fortitude level will determine how much Torpor you can take before falling unconcious. Otherwise Stimberries are a good source for reducing the Torpor Meter.
    It should look like a bunch of stars on right handside of your sceen when it pops up.
    Just make sure you have a source of water on hand as the berries tend to dehydrate you fast.
    And pop a point into food and water and as while it may not look like much in the menu. It makes a difference in how long you can go without requiring food or water.

I had that happen with a raft, was about a body length from herbivore island (that beginner island) when it got demolished by a leeds. They don't bother canoes however.... so if you want a good water experience, throw one of those together real quick. Just prepare to outrun the sharks XD I know I tend to be petrified of going into the water... at least until i get a grapple hook and scuba tank, or a pelagornis. They work as an aquatic bird, don't throw you off when you touch down on the water. They float, can instant eat the stuff they chomp when they kill it, and can gain back stamina to fly off again just by floating along. Also a good way to lure sharks into a trap to tame them for your underwater mounts ^_^ Pelis are amazing

With a few short risky hops over deep water. Equally thanks for the laughs reminded me of my first few times playing. The content was generally good as always. DON'T GIVE UP!! Just get smart ;)

    Ark is very much a game where they give you settings that you can change for a reason. You -need- the Leeds to fight the bosses (They have a trophy you need to spawn in the boss) But you can console command the trophy in, and set your own cost for it (I'll drop out 5 stacks of Obsidian, or whatever and let it despawn) and get through it that way.
    Ark is also a game where your progress doesn't -need- to be a huge burst of progress to create content. The process is part of the journey. Build a base somewhere central. Work on getting dinos, and using them to help expand your resource collection and processing. Ark is -difficult- without using dinos for stuff. The raft is neat. It's mobile. But if you can get to where you can get a bronto, and get a platform saddle, along with some other dinos for defense (Or offense. Stuff can't eat you if it gets eaten first.) that's still highly mobile ("Highly") and can serve as a mobile forward base for whatever you need.

    A very good tip in this game is to tame one called Parasur because it can scan the area and if there is something wrong, red dots will appear on the screen where the wrong thing is.

    I wouldn't think it would matter what type of material you build on the raft out of, since the beasties will be attacking the raft underneath it.
    When you get attacked on your dino hop off it so you can add your dps to its, and also it is better at targeting things in the dark.
    Sometimes you just have to stop and think about whether what was on your corpse was worth going back for (it usually isn't).
    The open ocean is supposed to be dangerous. If you want to travel the seas relatively unmolested you would need water tames to protect your raft. (If you start removing things just because they are problematic you will be left with a very boring no danger video.)

    Yeah...Leeds are not generally liked because they were basically only introduced to punish people that like the rafts. They're punishing, not fun. As to those allosaurs you saw, they're actually a great tame, but I think you need to be level 80-something to craft the saddle. They're pack creatures, usually found in groups of three, but several of them together as tames are a powerful team. They can nearly match a rex in direct damage output, and their debuff (assuming they still have the bleed DoT debuff in Ascension) puts them at least on par with a rex, and they have the highest sprinting speed of any creature on the island. They're a bit more fragile, though.

    Ark boats: previously you needed pillars and foundations to sink the foundations so you can use the rudder and spread out the floor even further.

    • @gregorskiff
      @gregorskiff Год назад

      In ASE the fence foundation/pillar trick became more popular than the multiple foundation stepping operations.
      In ASA, no matter how low the foundation is you can not access the raft tiller/controls.
      In ASA, by leaving a tiny gap (half a wall thickness) between foundations you can access that way.

    Oh man... I am only 8 min in but I just realized I meant to leave a comment for last video. You MUST MUST MUST put your tames on 'passive' whenever going over water or they will freak out and attack the water-life and I think their agro will attract the water-life as well vs. not when you are on the rudder and they are passive. Learn the whistle command it's very valuable.

    • @Pcwarmachine
      @Pcwarmachine Год назад

      Ouch... that was rough. My recommendation would be to go for a flyer. A leveled Pteranodon is generally the best means of traveling the map early game. Also don't waste your time with Raptors... too weak. Just level to a Carno saddle an then you can even take on T-Rex's if they are leveled enough.

  • @jillflyt6191

    back in old ASE for raft a hatch frame with trapdoor worked well over rudder when expanding I built pillars to support a 2nd floor with a ramp on one side straight down to ground/water and I parked dinos up top as when rocks clipped through raft it would push dinos around and even off the raft. for full mobile base I had a 3 story setup first floor was all open so I could see where I was going 2nd floor was a cabin/workshop then dino parking on roof surrounded with fences to keep them from sliding off. You used to be able to sink foundation into the raft floor to better protect core boat from damage not sure if it still works though

    And also a good advice as was in original ark, look through settings, there was an option to tame max level creatures 150 lvl. After you upgrade 150 leve creature to max, you can breed them and get more levels for next gen creatures. I was starting first from taming low level pter, flying creature gives lots opportunities to scout

  • @Gochen86
    @Gochen86 Год назад

    First high-level potential tame gets ban-hammered by a pair of Rex and an Allosaurus. Then the initial raft gets obliterated by an Alpha Leedsicthys... a normal Leeds is bad enough, as it's meant to be a primary deterrent to test subjects, keeping them trapped within the Arks. But an *ALPHA* as your first Leeds encounter isn't bad luck, it's the game kicking your teeth in when you're already bed-ridden in the ICU. Talk about a rough day, right?
    After re-watching the footage... this Alpha Leeds encounter is even more of a "kick him when he's down" moment, because the gigantic bastard was only *LEVEL ONE!*

    in normal arc there's round river rocks that have a much much higher porportion of metal to the craggy land rocks. I'm inclined to belive this is still true. so it's advised you clear out the nearby rivers to get more metal faster.
