Well, from past crimes, they do it for "pleasure." Or to raise and brainwash them. In the end, it is indeed a stupid thing to do because, eventually, the kidnapper will finally get caught and all the resources they use to commit their crimes is wasted.

This actually looks a lot better than I expected going into the trailer. That said, I stopped worrying when I realized 98% of the kidnappings were simply the non-custodial parent getting some time with their kids.
Makes me wish she didn't wear a wig for Scream 6. Hayden's so pretty with her natural hair.

LE immediately converges on any amber alert call. So the notion that there wouldn't be anyone to aid is insanely stupid. Would have to be an incredibly remote location like Alaska frontier.
Was about to comment this. Entire plot of this movie became null when the cop said “closet patrol is half an hour out”. No it ain’t bud. For a kidnapped child situation there is a bird in the sky or at the very least satellite imaging to track that car once someone calls and says they spotted it

I was a LEO for seven years. If you think LE agencies aren't acutely aware and responsive to amber alerts you are delusionally ignorant. Notifications come across multiple formal communication modes. And there is absolutely zero chance LE wouldn't be diverted to pursue a suspected vehicle.
