Yeah , the west made it harder and UPC coded the shit but I agree with the rest of the hip hop Varrio , Schooly came up with the Estilo .

Rap and Gangsta rap started in Chicago in the early 1900s. Put in or type in Jelly Roll Morton Dirty Dozens. Listen to this rap song that came out in 1908. And Look at the videos where that's not edited and you will hear Jelly Roll Morton say that he heard this rap song in Chicago. So rap and Hip Hop is not 50 years old. It's really over a hundred years old. Jelly Roll Morton was from New Orleans and many considers him to be one of the main pioneer's of Jazz. Like the good book says there is nothing new under the sun.

Hip hop and rap has been around c’fore Gangsta Rap but I have to say this Schooly D is the one that invented Gangsta Rap.he recorded an album Gangster Boogie in 1984 and in 1985 he released his first debut album Schooly D but a few years later King Tee,NWA,CMW and DJ Quic appeared after Schooly D.truth be told NWA didn’t start it but what they did is they made it popular, fashionable and intriguing to the public, they also merged it with func something Schooly D didn’t do when he started it.Too Short is more of Pimp Rap than Gangsta Rap.that’s why Cali Gangsta Rap is more fascinating than any other Rap that ain’t from it.when it comes to Gangsta Rap Southern California (were I am)got all the trophies they know how it’s done no rejeccs permitted it’s a must to be factual and not play games can’t forget Sac just the same as LA and SD the rest of NorCal is Mob Rap yea Sac-NorCal SoCal got this looc at the 90s and 2000s those decades were crucial asf.NWA,CMW,King Tee,S.C.C.,C-BO and Tha Dogg Pound threw Westcoast Gangsta Rap on the chart.they deserve to have people expressing they gratitude to them.

The term gangster rap had never actually been used until nwa I think it was dre who first used the name gangster rap when they were getting interviewed then the media ran with it, I agree it started with schooly d the seed was planted, but nwa really took it to that level with a shock factor, schooly was very tame in comparison, nwa kicked them doors open for rappers to really take it to the brink, even ice t said he was shocked when he first heard nwa he said it was like ice t on steroids, alot of rappers then followed nwa and them real hardcore street raps. Nwa established it then it blew up into the big business it would become.

Glad RUclips lifted those punkass censors!! Interesting conversation. Ice at was actually from New Jersey and moved west when he was 14. Schoolly D PSK was 1985 as well. The east always blamed Hip Hop going on a downward spiral on the west coast/gangsta rap. I’d let the east have that if they felt that way. I’d be interested in knowing who was the first rapper(s) to just really go all out with the gangsta talk on records. Talking about what went on in your neighborhood is one thing but actually saying you’re the one that’s actually doing all that stuff is a horse of another color. I never heard of Toddy Tee and Mixmaster Spade until now. I appreciate the education.

"Gangsta rap" was coined before 1992 but the differentiation is in the 1980s NWA'S music was labeled "gangsta rap" by an outside source (White racist mainstream media).
In the 80s, "gangsta rap" wasn't yet an official genre of rap music.
The 80s was the socially conscious era which was an official genre.
Gangsta rap as an official genre initiated in 1992 as a self-proclaimed, internalized, rap musical subset.
By 1992, Death Row Records pioneered gangsta rap as a movement.
Ice Cube and Westside Connection followed through, DJ Quik followed through etc
NWA rejected the "gangsta rap" label nor had any other rap artists or acts claim their music as "gangsta rap".
Gangsta rap was designed for the 90s
