Hey! If you need some suggestions for fragrances, or want to talk about how they are made, marketed, etc, it'd be fun to talk to you sometime! I know alot of people in the international niche and indie business, and I have had thousands of dollars of fragrances pass through my hands including my own stuff i've made, you may be well versed enough though 😆

Would you consider posting the scripts for your videos as like written essays on Substack or something like that? It’s a lot easier for me to actually absorb information by reading it than watching videos. But your video essays are extremely well done and I really appreciate your voice and contributions in healthy and responsible fashion!!!

I am a 37-year-old gay male artist who struggles with defining a personal style. I am very aware of current trends, subcultures, and what's happening on the runways and streets/ from tiktok to Avant gard. Ive lived in many places in the states and abroad. Besides struggling to commit to one style I sometimes wonder if I'm just too open to many ideas as I am open to experimenting with various styles, but often find myself plagued by indecision and negative self-talk.
This inner voice causes me to second-guess or overthink my choices, making it difficult to feel comfortable with anything I buy or wear. Despite spending hours searching, buying, trying, and returning items. Lots of returns! I never find what I'm searching for. Sometimes, I wish I didn't desire a specific style, as it would free me from this exercise in frustration. Ofcourse there's always minimalsm...but then my brain says but what about this other style, you don't want to commit to minimalism forever do you?

I definitaly agree with your points but i think it's very imporant to point out that our styles don't necessarily reflect ourselves and who we are but only how we want other people to see us. It's who we want to be and how we want others to react to us, not really who we actually are.

Thank you the best comment on current state of fashion it’s a cop out when people say this is how I express myself no it isn’t most people just want the validation and attention that’s comes with wearing the clothes I promise you most the people’s personalities, mannerism, “confidence” doesn’t not match what they are wearing idk how to explain it but I wrote a thread a while on Twitter about how the clothes don’t match the person you can tell they want to be someone else that they really aren’t or they are just looking for the dopamine hit of attention

I started the video upset and ended up thinking a lot and enjoying it. One thing I do think is very important that wasn't mentioned is that sometimes that stream of culture can bring you good things that resonate with you and who you are, but it is VERY true that you can lose track of who you are if you don't explore, if you don't make mistakes, if you lose your own taste and personal likes which are unique to yourself, and you don't see clothing on your body, the fit and cut of clothes, the styles you like, the practicality of the pieces for where you live, and how choosing clothing that adapts to your lifestyle is also very important. You can benefit from this stream of culture, but it is important to go outside, to think about who you are and what you like, and what's important to you practically and aesthetically. How important it is to just g o o u t s i d e. Like god damn, this shit left me thinking. Great video! I think my brain hurts, I hadn't used it in a while

I glad I found my style on accident, I bought a black runner, then by coincidence a black hoodie and black pants, one time I put them all together and loved how it looked, from then on I knew I'd only wear this color, it was all just personal discovery. I only began following fashion stuff on the last few months and honestly I was only influenced into buying balloon pants and nothing else, I can't relate to most mainstream fashion advice.
The best advice to find only can be found after searching "how to buy clothes that last", "clothing materials guide" etc etc.

    Popculture has become pretty heterogenous.
There were always a few different genres of fashion but nowadays algorithms formed all of these bubbles who got more seperated from each other than ever before.
I mean i like the fact that everyone can take their favorite piece of the cake, but i also think it made us more lonely in general, because now the internet is our third place and it‘s always about to be seen by other peers in our specific bubble.
If you go outside you will rarely encounter someone from your bubble unless you life in a city with millions of people.
That’s the reason i think it makes us lonely because we rather wanna spend our time in the internet with strangers who belong to our bubble than forming real connections with real people who maybe don’t belong to our bubble.
And maybe this explains the phenomena of „normie fashion“, we just want real life community again

hey man, this is a great video. Rather-i think this is actually in important video. especially that first 8 minutes. you’ve spoken on things i’m now realizing i’ve been trying to express but lacked the words. Especially in this mass internet influenced age. I’m probably a year and a half clean off of leaving instagram completely and it had this weird impact on me man. i will never return, never. I realized it somewhat led to a “hole” in certain areas of my identity and things i thought i cared about. Leaving instagram as it was my only real social media platform i was active in has really cleared a mental clutter and also helped me steer away from the fashion and social and even art algorithms. now like i said. i’ve felt this hole within me but i believe it’s a hole that use to be filled with clutter and unnecessary false influence. I think now at age 25 im kind of in this internal reset. I know i’ve got this Base Self, i let go of a lot of stuff and am really just trying to keep true and keep curious without being pulled in too many false directions.

I feel like with the discussion about style, how to find it etc.,
there’s a point people just miss and that’s there are no rules or guides to your style. Sure, there are aesthetics and all, but your personal style can only be found by you and you won’t achieve it by following rules.
Wear 10 designers or one, wear monochrome or every single color, wesr what YOU like (consume ethically tho).
People need to stop trying to fit a core or aesthetic, it can help as inspiration or even help, but stop being something that doesn’t exist really.
I mean yeah you can’t really say that you won’t like or wear something that is pushed onto you by an algorithm, marketing or social values and you probably won’t ever know if you 100% achieved your style, but style is also changig together with you. My parents gave me a lot of things out of love and because they said they didn’t associate with it too much anymore.
And to add one more point:
Whatever you choose to wear, wesr it with pride. Don’t let people take your enjoyment away from things you enjoy, no matter what. Take criticism, think about it and maybe even consider changing something because you agree with it, but wear whatever you need.
Yoh like trend hopping? Cool, trend hop (and consume ethically)
You like archival shit and anything after 2000 doesn’t go with you? Nice, I love it. (Just don’t be elitist about it)
You love Y2K? Enjoy the nostalgia.
You love the new Margiela Show and NEED that dress? Go buy it and rock that shit. (Just be honest with what you actually want, as long as you actually like it and it isn’t just an impulse)
Be true to yourself and you will have found your style.

As one of the 40 something year olds that you refer to 😏 i’ve found my style evolve best when i respond to my environment. I have kids too, so no longer possess the luxury of time to ponder the finer details of my fit but it’s still considered. I buy well and style it simply. I’m in my 40s, I’m still the same person as at 20, 30. I’m not dead to my life pre kids. I just have to be smarter about my choices.

I know I have made the same comment in a stream before but I think it really adds to the topic here.
My issue with the idea of personal style these days is that I feel like one will find what they like and care about, who they really are, but the way this knowlede translates into fashion still feels kinda off.
In Philosophy we speak of the idea of growing as a person by engaging with every fasset the world provides and this way forming an identity, an I. As I understood the video, this identity allows oneself to find a "personal style". It is required. But I think there is also a kind of dialog with the world that takes place when choosing what things fit ones Idea of who they are.
In another video JQ said that the learn how to dress via inspiration and I think in this lies the neccessaty that we cannot just find our style through knowing who we are. Sure we can go out and see what clothing we like and how it is associated with what we stand for as a person, but that selection is limited, also structured like the online algorithm is. And mainly, what we choose at the end of that selection to be our "personal style" is still dependend on what line of thought lead us to made that exact choice.
An simplistic example. Lets say I know I like to be serious and put together, so I wear black and blazers because to me, they represent what I see as these features. They certainly fit me.
But I could also tell myself that being able to put together a colorful outfit as an expression of the same features since they show, that I am able to controll many different emotional fassets of myself and integrate them into a coherent whole because I am "serious and put together".
The second case follows a more elaborate and maybe even unothodox line of argument, but it is certainly possible.
What it comes down to then, is taking products or design elements that match with ones own self expression. But with enough mental gymnastics and interpretation, so many different ways of expression can be called like something that is "just like me".
This is the dialog I meant earlier. How do I convince myself that a piece of clothing is me? And if I am able to confince myself of something easily, anything, is it really my personal style then?

    • @calippo4202
      @calippo4202 6 месяцев назад

Or maybe, it is just the engagement in that dialog in the first place, that matters. It is certainly more efford than many people put.

I think keywords and shi can be useful for research or getting a basis of what you like to find inspo, but the problem is when ,like you said, people fall into a buy buy buy mindset to follow that set box they’ve glued themselves into. I think everyone should just dress however they want instead of focusing on following and making sure they’re under a category.

a lot of people don't have much time outside of work, obligations and so on, so they apply mindlessly what they see. It's for sure partially a consequence of material conditions, the instant gratification of buying a zara or shain outfit for like 40$ is too attractive to people without much time or money. It's just easy fashion, or what feels like fashion.
I 100% agree tho on the commodification of identity. It's crazy how good companies and marketing have become at selling you your identity. You are what you consume, and you feel a sense of belonging into a greater community of likeminded people, which feels nice considering the increasingly individualistic tendencies of our society and especially after the isolation many suffered during covid. It's a sad reality

Do more fragrance videos please oh and btw I bet you "Last Birthday Cake" by toskovat would be your signature scent if you've tried it. Its inspiration is about a man who takes his own life on his birthday. You can smell the sadness in that one, it had me tear up the first time I smelled it

Hi recently I have been fiercely searching for pants unfortunately without success, I came across pants called "harem and alladin" while it sounds ridiculous and are made in fast fashion which I despise. I came across WASHER WOOL GABARDINE ZIPPER POCKET PANTS by yohji yamamoto, unfortunately the currency in the country I live in did not make it easy for me to buy them. Do you know of any cheaper alternatives? I am mainly concerned with the idea, of looking like balloons and were material. I say in advance that I don't mean the cut of tracksuits, more suit trousers.

I watch your videos because I went through a phase where I thought I should be a fashion designer. I watched fashion shows on RUclips and read up on the history of haute couture. After that I had my photography phase and then my music phase. Now I'm thinking about becoming a part-time techno DJ while studying computer science.
But in the end, my fashion phase helped me come up with the idea of making my own jackets or sweatshirts etc. with my sewing machine. Your videos also inspired me to do this project and that's why I'll keep watching you until I get bored of your content or you. lol

I’ve seen a lot of people, including myself, cover the core problem. Whether that’s through publication or yt videos. I think that this addressing of the elephant in the room will push a less consumeristic attitude when it comes to fashion, so ig there is a light at the end of the tunnel

I might be slow but I really don’t understand where you’re coming from man I found more fashion off the internet than I could ever in real life like seriously I would’ve never found the stuff I liked if I didn’t have the internet, the amount of information on the internet is insane I prefer to get informed about things idk what else to say like I just don’t get the point of this video sorry?

you must reflect deeper than just exposure. Having access to what the algorithms push to you isnt having control its "influence by algorithms". The thing i was referring in this video was not the fact you have access to more information which in that sense can also be overwhelming and only feed into over consumption culutre and the illusion of choice but this video was talking about person style and how it isnt achieved by watching videos/catagories but by life experience, culture, adventure irl with this age of media consumption there is a decline in 3rd spaces being used. hopefully you understood an the internet is a tool but unfortunately when it comes to fashion its very harmful psychologically.

    • @spentcomb7864
      @spentcomb7864 6 месяцев назад

@@fashionelitist the internet can also serve as a platform for diverse cultural exploration and exposure, just like you yourself use it as well in order to find inspiration for what ur next outfit its gonna be. It can connect individuals to a wide array of styles and perspectives that might not be readily accessible in their immediate physical surroundings, The internet doesnt tell you need to wear rather than give you ideas of what other people are wearing in order to have a basic understanding and develop your own fashion sense. its been happening far before the internet even existed.
