This was the most relaxed quick change I've ever seen.
For anyone who’s wondering, « merde », is like a « good luck ! » in old French and some people say that with that meaning but especially in theatre, dance and all of that stuff.
(But,today,it literally means « shit » 💀)

It's basically like saying "break a leg"
And they usually say it three times right? Like “merde, merde, merde!”
It has always meant shit, we say it because before, if there was a ton of shit horse in front of a theather it meant a lot of people were here to watch it and its successfull
I know they used to say it in WWII to other soldiers, because they thought saying ‘good luck’ would bring them bad luck (or something). It’s a very interesting history!
I was on the side of the stage where Clara had to change between party and night, it was literally a one minute quick change, she had two people helping her, and even in party scene there was choreography specifically to help her warm her feet up for pointe. It was insane, I think I’m going to be Clara next year so I’m scared for that 😅

I don't know if this is helpful, but every time I have had only a minute or two to do something or whatever, I just count it quietly in my head to keep the time firmly in mind, which translates to an outer looking calm because if you panic you like... drop things and lose time.
The whispered "merde" on passing was so sweet. 😅

One of my friends had a 37 second quick change. I was genuinely scared she wouldn’t make it because when we practiced she didn’t but on the show day she did and I let out a huge breathe of relief ❤😅
In a show I was crew for we had a quick change during a ~30 second blackout 😭 I was in charge of putting the new shirt on the girl changing and I about lost my mind trying to get the timing right, if I had been the actor I would have been dying lmao
I had to do the same thing as Clara it was 31 secs and I was alone everyone was focused on the angel who had 5 minutes 😭And my stupid bloomers got stuck but I made it on!

I had to do a somewhat quick change for my dance recital from a really complicated costume. Other girls with quick changes had setups backstage with upwards of 5 people helping. I had to run back to the dressing room and only had my mom to help me. I wound up missing my cue for my duet and my teacher yelled at me. I’m so glad that studio closed less than a year after I left

Being an expert at quick changes I love that you have the confidence with your helper to remain calm. I always tell my actors that remaining calm is the most important part of a quick change.

Quick changes are always so satisfying once you've got them practiced and polished! Fir any musicals, I always wear a tank top and spanks underneath my costume. It helps speed along quick changes nicely.
How can she stays so calm while she gets dressed? When I’m on stage and I have to dress up fast I always panic!!😂
Maybe I’m weird, but I love quick changes! I love the adrenaline rush, and planning everything out perfectly. I also liked helping my friends with theirs, working in a team to get someone completely changed in the wings is such a rewarding feeling!
Oh god I miss my nutcracker season, I was solider and party child in 2022 nutcracker and this just remind’s me about how wonderful it was. 2023 we had Christmas Carol, it was fun but nothing beats the one and only Nutcracker! ❤️
My favorite quick change hack is literally just wearing the second costume underneath the first. It’s my go to every time if possible.

My worst quick change was from a full on unitard with demon wings to different tights, a new leotard and a long skirt + angel wings (I also had to put a halo in my hair) all in about 45 seconds to a minute but that included being in the wings preparing
omg for our showchour quick change this year we have to change out of a FULL BODY DENIM JUMPSUIT AND SNEAKER THAT ARE IMPOSSIBKE TO SLIP OFF into a black corset dress with sleeves that aren’t attached and really strappy heels in 44 seconds

I’ve had to do a 30 second quick change. I had to change my tights as well as the costume
I also did a nutcracker production and did the same quick change as I was also Clara!

Nothing to do with ballet, but in a musical I was in our lead actor had 30 seconds to change his shoes from rollerskates to sneakers and then come back out and dance. We had a whole path marked for him for people to steer clear of, a chair for him, and our backstage manager helped him with one foot while he did the other. And I was right there because I went on through the same curtain 10 seconds after he exited the stage. So chaotic 💀

I had a quick change last year that I had this head peice and it has alot of bobby pins in it to secure it 😂 I had like 40 seconds to undo that and put my dress on 😂

if you have ever seen &juliet on broadway and have sat in the area close to romeo’s dressing room, you can see the nanny’s quick change and she only has like 30 seconds to get on a whole new fit it’s insane and its so cool if you can see it because if you sit in the right spot you can see the change it’s really cool

The studio my little sister used to dance at did the nutcracker every few years. Usually what they would do is keep regular ballet shoes for the first half of the show that lasted through snowflake scene, and then she would change into point shoes for the rest of the show. The stage they use doesn't have much room in back so there's only so much you can do for quick changes like this.

The fastest quick changes I had was a one minute full costume change for a dance recital (even hair) and when I was in Twinderella I had 3 or 4 lines to change out of an apron and headband to a hat and coat.
