I'm a huge Paper Mario fan and for me Bug Fables is superior to TTYD in a lot of aspect. In Paper Mario (the good old school one) the problem is that your partner don't have the time to have a lot of character development, because their character arc are all stuck in one chapter, also Mario is a boring silent protagonist. In Bug Fables you have a trio of protagonist, their character development and personality grow in each chapter. Also all NPC have unique design (this complain is more for Sticker Star and Color Splash). Bug Fables have a lot more content and the majority of side quest are interesting, not just give me 2 mushrooms, bang quest done. Have a lot original optional boss with unique attack pattern (not like Bonetail/Hooktail). I have finish the game in 35 hours (side quest and post game included). This game was made by 4 persons (composer included). It's crazy to think that 4 persons with a low budget have made a huge game like this, (this game smell love).
@@Terranigma23 Couldn't agree more! It was a pleasure playing this game; everything you mentioned rings very true. It certainly feels like an advancement from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. The passion sure shows!
Great review! I love this game and am glad to see it getting the attention it deserves now that it's out on consoles. SPOILERS AHEAD Regarding the weak enemies in a new area, I'm pretty sure I know what happened. You probably did Leif's quest before chapter 5. While it's available after 4 for people looking for a challenge, it's actually intended/scaled to be played after 5, so doing it first kind of over levels you for earlier in the game.
(Xander here) Ah, okay that clears things up. The side quests are a lot of fun, and I went pretty hard on them. That must be what have happened; good catch.
I'm pretty active in the community Discord and I think almost everyone has done that in at least one playthrough. It's common enough that when we hear that specific complaint we know exactly what happened
I've been waiting for an Indie RPG inspired by Paper Mario since the first 2 Paper Mario games made me an RPG fan and before this I was wondering looking at the Indie RPGs "Why doesn't any indie dev make a game like this?" and now that I played this game on PC back in January this year it's the Indie RPG I'm looking for and while this may not replace Paper Mario to some people but honestly this is the closest we will get to a true Paper Mario sequel I really doubt Nintendo will go back to it's roots.
There is a lot of other indie Paper Mario game in development to follow (Born of Bread, Scrap Story, Seahorse Saga, The Outbound Ghost, etc). Also the really great game "UnderHero" (available on all platform) have some Paper Mario vibe. 😁
What do you think? Have you started playing Bug Fables yet, or are you planning to later? Let us know!

I bought it 2 weeks ago because it was on sale. The only thing that bugs me: WHY DIDN'T I BUY IT EARLIER
I am so happy I got this game instead of Origami King
