- Today we're watching king Vaati's PHENOMENAL video about Elden Ring's bosses that served the Golden Order. Vaati takes us through the history, motivations, and lineage of many seemingly random bosses that served the Golden Order to help us build up a picture of their purpose in the Lands Between. We then get time to watch The Lore behind Elden Ring's Eternal Cities which was a breathtaking exploration of the lands below the lands between, and the creatures that inhabit them! Thank you VaatiVidya for your time and creativity.

Queen Ronaldo and America the Eternal….the subtitles are so hilariously horrendous and I love them haha.
I highly recommend the story that covers Vyke, the guy on the cover of the Elden Ring game, by Vaati titled, ‘The Lord of Frenzied Flame’. It gives a lot of insight on the Frenzied Flame and covers one of my favorite stories from the game. I think that you’d really enjoy that video as well!
Also I’ve been loving following your gaming journey 🙌🏾
The Korea- I mean the Carina Royalty would like a word as well
Given how Rennala’s children have evidence of aiding each other, I feel like Radahn (there is an iron virgin at his castle) froze the stars to put Ranni’s fate in stasis-meaning she can’t be killed until Radahn unlocks her fate. This would mean that Malenia was sent to kill Radahn to free Ranni’s fate to allow the lunar family to be slain properly. Essentially rannia was kept safely in stasis during the war of the shattering, preventing her destruction
That’s a cool theory. The only issue with it I can see is how much it seemed like Radahn favored Radagon, at least aesthetically. I find it iffy that he’d be against the golden order
@@14megasxlr Remember that Morgott named him a traitor and artwork shows them fighting. More so, an Iron Virgin is at Radahn’s castle and Radahn’s portrait is still hung in Volcano Manor. It seems like when the golden order was shattered alongside the elden ring, The children of Rennala and Marika were at war, with Rennala’s children all providing pieces to a plot.
@@14megasxlr I wonder if she (Ranni) had a deformity on her actual body with the theory that she’s birthed from the amber egg.
OH MY GOD YOUR BRILLIANT!!!!!!
@@urdeddog5124 Even if it did hinder Ranni’s ambitions, I wouldn’t question it too much.
A reoccurring theme in Elden Ring is that the Golden Order is bad but most of its alternatives are worst. Look at Rykard, the Flame of Frenzy, the Fire Giants, etc. All seemingly were worst than the Golden Order.
I think Radahn and the average player have every right to believe Ranni’s intentions aren’t the best. She did literally kill her stepbrother and therefore indirectly started the shattering. Even though we do see the result of her ending, her intentions do appear to be a mystery. In any case, I believe Radahn had the right to not be on board with what his sister was doing.
It's so much fun to deepen the experience of these games. Vaati is exceptional at opening up the elusive depth of the lore.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I've watched all of these before, but it's a lot of fun to revisit with your fresh perspectives!
So lovely to know you’re enjoying rewatching them! I suspect I’ll be doing the same once I’ve watched them all too - would love to see other peoples thoughts!
VaatiVidya is a master, I’ve never been so impressed by anyone’s dedication and ability to articulate vast concepts like this
@@Emmalition The games may be elusive but they (like Vaati) never speak down to the player. They encourage our curiosity, imagination, and intelligence.
You feel yourself expanding as you unlock their secrets.
It makes them incredibly replayable (however hard they are) and every experience is all the more enriching.
Works of art do that.
That's why these games are so special. They always endeavor to take us to these places.
It's all challenging in the best ways.
Cool! I recommend to watch the "Tarnished Archaeologist", but only after Vaati. I'm not sure, but i think he is a historian or real archaeologist, since he has some takes based on buildings and symbols that no other lore nerd has!
This sounds awesome, YES. Added to my notes!
Second for Tarnished Archaeologist! Such valuable, interesting insight into the themes and inspirations.
Second that :) That guy's awesome!
37:41 The sword that the Elden beast uses is believed to be made out of the corpse of Radagon/Marika itself. Like Vaati said you can see the spine forming the grip, and the two arms forming the crossguard, if you look closely it even appears to be forming the golden order pose.
You can also assume that the two blades that separate, intertwine and finally conjoin at the tip of the blade are Marika's and Radagon split personalities separating, twisting and joining again.
It is not forming "the golden order pose", there are three. Inner order, Outer order and Golden Order Totality. The sacred relic sword is specifically doing the Inner Order pose
"Marika seems like the problem here"
Goldmask approves of this message
42:18 It’s likely that the Eternal Cities were built before they were banished underground, as evidenced by the architecture (“The Tarnished Archeologist” is a great channel for dissecting Elden Ring lore based on real-world influences and architectural hints). The lower section of Leyndell where you find the Omenkiller and the town of Sellia both share architecture with the Eternal Cities, and both underground cities have windows that are sealed up - why would one seal their windows, if not to keep out the daylight? It seems the underground cities were literally banished below the earth, and it doesn’t particularly matter exactly how; god-like forces like the Greater Will can just do that stuff.
Glad to see another Vaati reaction! If you’re interested in more of his Elden Ring content, I highly recommend his “Prepare to Cry” / “An Elden Ring Story” series, which are much more narrative-focused and have absolutely stellar presentation. His videos on Miquella and the cosmic sorceries are also personal favorites!
(Also it’s low-key surreal to hear someone have _anything_ positive to say about the Capra Demon, considering that IMO it was the single most bullshit fight I’ve ever experienced and singlehandedly made me give up on DS1 and convinced me never to play a Soulsborne game again for the sake of my own mental health XD)
Since you mentioned the tree Sentinels, they are chained to the horses, that's why you can't dismount them, it's kind of disturbing, like a lot of stuff in the game as you realize more and more about it. I have more things to say but they are going to be shown on other vids so no spoiler!
Vaati is good for a general audience and he is my favourite but there are some others who go much deeper and have found some very interesting things. The black knives leader and her daughter trying to escape Leyndell after killing Godwyn and you realise who didn't make it by who is imprisoned and who you get as a spirit summon as described by Smoughtowns videos being my personal wtf moment. The injured and exhausted black knife assassin's you find trying to hide make so much more sense.
Regarding translations, IIRC From doesn't translate in-house, so any mistakes is not entirely due to them. They have had a history of mistranslations leading to odd lore interpretations, though. The most infamous regards Gwyn's firstborn's banishment. In Dark Souls I, the English translation states that "a loss of the annals led to his banishment", leading people to scratch their heads and wonder if he got exiled for destroying history books. The Japanese original, however, rather says that he was struck from the history books, "lost to the annals" after his banishment.
Vaati: “This is datamined information we’re not supposed to know”
Emma: “YEAH BUT THATS COOL”
This is where we learn the true depths of Elden Ring lore: Queen 'Murica's lust for power and Cristiano Ronaldo's grim and forbidden acts of reincarnation.
i seriously recommend you to watch Hawkshaw's Lore video called "The Color Theory of Elden Ring", it brings such a unique view and perspective of the game that i haven't seen any other channel talk about. it will certainly change the way you look at the lore of this game.
I think the most fascinating and understated thing about Vaati's early Elden Ring videos is how completely wrong he and the community at large were about many of our early assumptions. You saw this in some of Vaati's DS3 videos where earlier theories get jossed by subsequent community discoveries and dlc releases, but this time around it feels so much more blatant and organic, much like real world anthropology and archeology where our theories are constantly disproven and reshaped the more we come to discover about this incredible world Fromsoft and GRRM have created. Looking forward to you learning more about this strange and twisted history that's continuing to shed secrets, even a year after release.
SmoughTown is actually another great lore channel to check out if you wanted to keep doing a lore series (which I am enjoying and I hope you do
A bit more on the abstract side, but I would highly recommend Hawkshaw's video "The Color Theory of Elden Ring." It is extremely cool, and might help to make clear some of the more underlying principles of the games world.
Yes, Hawkshaw is criminally underrated.
Morgott's my favorite character in retrospect. Obviously he's a pain during your first playthrough and his words aren't any better towards you, but his story is so damn sad and understandable that I just feel so bad for him in the end. From start to finish in his life it was pain and yet he still fought for what seemed right even though it never benefited him. Idk, just my thoughts.
I felt like the Finger Slayer Blade was from Godwyn the Golden, the first to fall. He was also closely related to death and Destiny. So it would be fitting if the blade was made from a part of him.
I recommend that after watching Vaati's videos you watch SmougTown's lore series on Elden Ring, wich in my opinion surpasses Vaati's in terms of understanding the lore.
Renala was given the egg by Radagon so no it wasn't because of that
Radagon is the will of order that Marika slowly got to lose and Radagon becoming a different creature from the same person it really present the 2 parts of confusion (being loyal to the golden order or to destroy it) so the rune of reincarnation was owned by Radagon is indicate that he got it after being the one who reincarnated from the true royal sense that Marika had and get it off of her so she can think on how to destroy the very things she supported all along and made her will of serving the golden order busy in doing wars
And when she started to make Godfrey the first elden lord to leave to fight in other wars in other lands and come back as a dead body the sea thrown back to the land between so he can be at least stronger to destroy the elden beast but Radagon once he knew that the order lacking the consort he went force without thinking about renala and left he the reincarnation rune so who wouldn't be looked at as not fitting role for the golden order and the greater will once he reached the tree he was accepted right away by the greater will that's why no one knows why he got accepted right away i mean something like that would be sorta admitted by queen Marika herself but not really she sorta inclined to it because Radagon the golden order believer want to be Marika want to take away her doubts and be her to stand along with the greater will and the golden order
Quick clarification on something. Radagon gave Rennala the amber egg when he left her. So it wasn’t until after Radagon left her that Rennala started to create life with the amber egg.
Vaati was wrong about Radan being attacked by morgot after fighting malania because in that fight he didn't come back he became eaten from the inside by the rot that eaten his brain until he became like a dog eating on dead friends and enemies
But it is more possible he got attacked by morgot because he went to the astrologers who have been in his Region that got destroyed by the golden order after Radan learned from them and the alabsta lord
One of the best thought provoking lore RUclipsrs you should certainly checkout is Hawkshaw - it covers new, more thematic topics within Elden Ring
U should really react to his prepare to cry videos the frenzied flame video is my favorite
You should for sure watch vaati's frenzied flame video which is the best video hes ever made in my opinion
I've loved watching your take on these videos.
I never took Marika as the bad seed who set this into motion. I always took it as she was an idealistic champion chosen as a god by the Greater Will and the Elden Beast, and slowly over time she broke away from that which is why she had Ranni steal the Rune of Death, sent away Godfrey to build the tarnished's strength, and even shatter the Elden Ring.
VaatiVidya has done amazing work with his videos. A lot of work, splendidly executed.
I feel like there was some sort of a secret team between Ranni, Miquella, Melina and finally Marika. Their end goals might have been different yes but to be it feels like they respected eachother as rivals and helped out(?) eachother in their own ways to be fair to each other.
It seems to me like Marika was at the helm, and these Children of her came to her for assistance in their own way. Melina was instructed by Marika to be a Kindeling maiden, Miquella was left alone even when Marika surely knew what he was doing could challange the Golden Order and the Erd Tree. And Ranni was supported by Marika by lending her the Black blade assassins which allowed her to kill Godwin and go forward with her plan.
For Rennala too, Radagon being Marika herself, it seems to be like Radagon was kind of like a split personality of Marika with different ideology and his own will and thoughts but he did truly loved Rennala and by extension so did Marika. But he had no choice to go back to the Capital where Marika was cause of some thing that happened and Marika seeing Rennala heart broken, pitied and left her alone even if she had the forbidden right (according to the golden order ) of Rebirth.
Me in my Elden Ring Lore rabbit hole rewatching all these videos here
I really hope you get round to the 'Prepare to Cry' videos Vaati has done for Elden Ring. Really dives deep on individual characters and journeys they took. He really shines in those videos I find.
Really enjoying all this and seeing your reactions and questions too 😄
I love these videos, you should watch the Miquella lore video next
The Bosses in Elden Ring are amazing! I loved all of them, they were fun to battle and provided a great challenge! 🤗
HI Emma, you can check the channel "The Tarnished Archaeologist" I like Vaati a lot he explores the lore very well but his limited by the game itself 😇 'The Tarnished Archaeologist" is on the next level he explains not just the lore but the ideas of Elden Ring. For example why Miyazaki chose the Tree as main objective in the game. Why needles are used to treat scarlet rot (because needles are use to kill trees :( and etc
my theory is marika sets the stage for the betrayal of the golden order by helping us the tarnished decide whats best, not her useless demigod children. the elden ring could have been almost like a mind/will control, like Iji the giant had a helmet of mirrors to negate any outer gods control, ranni cast away her body too. the mimic veil description say marika was mischievous and playful. hard to imagine all this war mongering was really from her heart or the golden order gods will imposed on marika, and she wanted out hence black knives
Dang, i was just finished marathon-watch your Elden Ring lore and Elden Ring Demi-Gods Lore react videos. And voila! another one!
It’s like I knew…!
Sadly mistranslations between Japanese and English is always going to be a problem. It's not necessarily anyone's fault as often at times Japanese words can be translated multiple ways into English or that English doesn't have a direct comparison for the word used. Sometimes it comes down to just the context of something and I doubt that a translator overseas is going to get all the nitty gritty details for lore or maybe something gets altered at the last minute which ends up slipping by unnoticed. I don't believe Fromsoft do translations inhouse but outsource it so miscommunication is always be a bit of problem. I think for the most part we have to consider the JP version as what Fromsoft intended it to be but we'll always have the problem that one translator might translate things differently to other translator.
I think Morgott is so obsessed to become a champion of the golden order, to cope with him being rejected by his very family for being an unworthy omen.
He basically devoted his entire existence to win back the favor of his family and the ppl that believe in the golden order.
I think thats his main motivation, to become a part of the very thing that rejected him.
Great reaction really enjoying these lore videos and hearing your different perspectives on it the one thing I love about FromSoft games is how we as a community look at everything the architecture, item descriptions, enemy placements, visuals, etc.. Looking forward to more.
Ever wonder why some Souls players seem to know exactly what to do, what items are used for and general strategies, when they first start a new game.? It is because Miyazaki, since Demon Souls, generally uses the same blueprint for most of his Soulsborne games. As you mention, referencing lore being similar from Demon Souls, Dark Souls 1 and Sekiro once you generally learn ONE you tend to understand them ALL! Great Series. You are a GREAT Student!
You can only become Vaati's assistant after deciphering the mystery of Priscilla's fluffy tail.
Hint: Watch "Priscilla and the Chastity Belt" by VaatiVidya :))
2 minutes well spent.
I would recommend looking into SmoughTown's content. He coveres narrow topics and provides detailed explanations on them and everything that surrounds them. He has very interesting analysis of the nature of the Greater Will, or dragons, for example. In dragon lore video he also covers the ages before the Golden order. He'll, he has a literal "The TIMELINE" video, lol 🙃
20:19. The music here is magnificent. I knew it immediately from another excellent FromSoftware dedicated channel @thebrotherscode Hours long in depth videos from the previous games including 2 so far for Elden Ring.
This song is from their intro to a mutual favorite 😁 Bloodborne
Consider watching Smough Town's material on Rykard and lore videos of Square Table Gaming on lesser known npcs and bosses such as Commander Nial. They all are extremely well done and present interesting points and theories. Excelent fillers while waiting on new Vati's videos
The Sekiro thing about the "shutgun women" you mention at 56:34 - Miyazaki could have been inspired by another Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli). Meaning by the strong female leader of the little settlement in Princess Mononoke that manufactures guns.
May I recommend another LoreMaster, he's only done DS2, DS3 and Bloodborne Lorethroughs so far but he's rather good? I am asking you for permission btw.
Lovely video
Now go watch the prepare to cry videos
Good plan! Thank you so much :)
I have a theory that Morgott beats Radahn in the opening cutscene simply that's when Morgott was bless by the Erdtree. As everybody knows that who blessed by the Erdtree will very strong and Radahn in the opening scene was weak because he is young and not experienced. Now in the game, we see Morgott no longer be blessed by the Erdtree and Radahn is strong, fully experienced. So the chance to let Morgott beats Radahn is... by luck :))))
Should def check out the rest of his lore vids. Especially An Elden Ring Story ► The Lord of Frenzied Flame. Best one of Vaati's lore vids imo
The ulcirated tree things are actually reused assets from one of the dark souls or blood borne games that never made it in and had only a single silhouette left…… which perfectly matches the ulcirated snake things. People have been trying to figure out what they were for YEARS.
Also the 29:36 tree guardians is the prison guardian, the first boss you fight in demon souls and dark souls(1or2?)
If youre interested in more lore channels, you should check out Smoughtown. he goes into even more detail on certain subjects than vaati does. I love vaati but Smough is awesome too. I like having these types of videos on in the background while im studying or doing something, souls, 40k and lately Warcraft lol.
Erdtree/Elden Beast just feels like a big ol' parasite sucking the lands between dry - and all the other outer gods seem to want in on that power, rather than just letting The Golden Order take it all. From the moons that bewitched and empowered Rennala and Ranni, the Formless Mother that enticed Mohg, the God of Rot seems to wish to rot the world much like how fungi and diseases will rot their hosts to absorb nutrients IRL, etc..
You should react to "The Lore of Elden Ring's Slumbering Demigod" by VaatiVidya next
VaatiVidyas prepare to cry vids are awesome. You should do that.
I think you might have missed the lore video explaining the sorceries and primeval current, which is mentioned here.
Happy day and hf
Would be nice if you didn't skip the ads, since you're using his content. I find it to be a bit of react ettiquette.
one thing i dont understand: rennala can rebirth stuff because she has the amber egg that contains the rune of the unborn...ok, but, that egg was a parting gift from radagon when he abandoned her, so she gained that power because of radagon. Aaaand the runes appeared after the shattering of the ring which happened long AFTER radagon gave the egg to rennala. What am i missing?
one take away from Emma's lore reactions is she gets progressively saltier towards Marika lmao!
33:17 it’s the same feeling I got when I stumbled onto black reach cave in Skyrim!!!
Dont feel bad about cheesing the ulcerated tree spirit in the haligtree that thing is on freaking steroids lol. it has like 20k health. Yeah that reveal of the eternal city going that elevator was a moment that made me say this game is incredible!
I just hate the Scarlet rot variant. Especially the one in the haligtree. Had to summon coop just to get rid of it xD
Just because the Nox lived underground, it doesn't mean they couldn't have walked outside every now and then
Sorry but i can't wait to see you react to the Prepare to Cry stuff for Elden Ring and then see you actually cry LOL
I second the recommendation to watch Vaatis, lord of the frenzied flame video. One of the best edited videos I've ever seen and a heck of story.
There's one Crucible knight that you have to find a teleporter to get to he's on a rocky outcrop in the middle of nowhere and he's the only person in that secret area
If Radagon really didn't care about Rennala, he wouldn't have given her the egg or he could've taken it back
The Nox were once living above ground until they were banished. They know what the night sky looks like lol
If there's any part of this game I enjoy seeing someone's reaction to, it's the siofra river well experience.
wonder how all those fire giants were frozen, given that they can literally produce heat from their body
i guess the astel of the forgotten city must have visited before radahn became the starscourge since he stopped their trespassing when he stopped the stars.
asking how humans manneged to inslave and kill the trolls is like asking how humans were able to hunt down and kill mamoths and huge bears
56:57 "A slight trope that Myazaki... likes Women" xD
I’d love to see your reaction to His video on the lord of frenzied flame. One of my favorites in his elden ring lore vids
Emma, check out Princess Mononoke re: Gun Fort and the Snake Eyes…
26:40 i swear the one before Malenia was so awful, definitely one of the hardest/worst fights in the game.
easiest way to kill a death bird is use any sword with the holy blade that shoots out i use Ds sword as that also has it built in so does miquellas knight sword
I really hope you react to the Prepare To Cry series, they are very beautiful and very well made as well
Will you also react to SmoughTown's Lore Video's as well?
That moment when you realize the Nox essentially created AIs…
About what you mentioned at 24:35
You would be surprised to see how much of these From Software games are really bad translated ever since Demon's Souls and STILL are to this day.
The only exception might be Sekiro, which even though it has some flaws and mistakes, it's still the closest to a good translation that these games ever had.
The worst of them is Demon's and Dark Souls 1, specially Dark Souls 1, the english translation straight up tells you ANOTHER story with a bunch of item description.
Marika is a prisoner herself and I think it is the greater will who dictates her actions.
Marika is spelled America so, there you go. Lore solved.
Please, react to prepare to cry: the lord of frenzied flame...
You should watch the tarnished archeologist dude is really good
good content!
Damn, this lore vids are blowing up 👍
Miyazaki likes strong women
Vaati has further clarified his take on the GREATREE relationship to the ERDTREE. With the DLC announcement there is a further graphic of this relationship. He leans more to the parasitic relationship again. I would agree. The cut content of the Nox just go to emphasise another thing. The DLC potential of this game is insane. It's also worth mentioning some of the initial criticism that Elden Ring received because of its depiction of females (Melania in particular). Just goes to show how little the critics actually understood the deeply matriarchal nature of the lore.
the cipher pata and the coffin script looks nothing alike
So, another really fun channel for this is the Tarnished Archeologist who has VERY interesting analyses of, well, archeological stuff in the Lands Between. Would recommend.
20:58 I also really immediately found the Crucible Knights interesting. I remember saying to my friend when we were playing the game simultaneously at release "I want to know what the deal is with these knights. Their gear talks about how OLD they are serving the first lord and holding primordial powers, but you can tell by their posture that they still have their wits about them... and so what does it mean when somebody who hasn't lost their mind and knows more about the world's history than anyone else we meet takes one look at US and immediately goes kill-on-sight?"
Marica is not evil shes just following the golden order has an Imperian/God, she even goes agains the golden order breaking the Elden Ring and leading you the tarnished on to change whats happening with the lands between by creating Melena and separating her self from Hoarah Loux so that he could lead the tarnish to become stronger has you are now.
I just recently watched GRRMs interview about what they had him do for this game, and they wanted him to give them a story and characters and a world that existed 500 years prior to the events that happened in the game. Now not that From Soft aren't absolutely amazing at writing, but I highly doubt they will just let the story that the great GRRM wrote to set up the actual story go to waste. I imagine that's what Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be, From does nothing by accident.
Cheers for another video Emma ^^
I have recently watched through your Elden Ring gameplay series and i loved it :D If i recall right, then you did not complete the questline for Diallos and Alexander, so I recommend you to watch the "An Elden Ring Story ► The Warrior Within" from Vaati ^^ It is an amazingly made cinematic video made in collab with other youtubers, and it will tell you an incredible wonderful and heartfelt story of Alexander and Diallos ^^
I really hope you go into npc lore, they're just as interesting. My favorites are Vargram and vyke; the guy from the trailers and the poster boy.
Youre correct, the Eternal Cities are all optional
Fun fact time! The Erdtree Guardians use largely the same model and movements as the Capra Demon from DS1!
wow so much I didn't know about Koreans
The Nox and their cities are my favorite part of the game visually and lore wise. So much so I did an entire play through as a Nox swordtress! Wasn’t very fun tbh😂
45:52 the nameless city is right under leyndell, even better, it's right under the missing part of leyndell (the part where there's a huge all that's surrounded by walls. There's even a door leading to this section, which means there used to be something there before that hole)
Would highly suggest reacting to Vaati's prepare to cry on elden ring, they are all so well made but the frenzy flame video is, in my opinion, the best video on his channel to date. I was in awe watching that.
