I really like Jedi Fallen Order but it was missing something but even after 20 years im willing to replay Jedi Outast. The Story, The gameplay everything simply worked.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I may do more game story analysis in the future, though yeah there aren't a lot of Jedi games so probably not more on those...until Fallen Order 2 comes out :D
A very interesting and thoughtful analysis of these themes. It really made me think about the meaning of the force and how it also connects to certain principles in life, because in the end I feel that's what makes these themes so interesting. I love the juxtaposition with Jedi Outcast(especially the force choke slamming down part, I loved to let stormtroopers flyyyyy). Keep up the good work!
About The Kaber crystal breaking, I always took that as the force telling kal to make 2 different sabers and Him being a scrapper makes the first dual saber that disconnects into 2 individual sabers. That Many are stronger than 1. So he has Jaro and Cere's lightsabers (both of his masters?) Combined into one and thats the force he imbues at the bench.
Another cook little theory Is that the slow time ability is a Dark Side ability in KOTOR. and seeing how Cal uses it against the stormtroopers he might be using alittle dark side myself
Great vid. I would love to hear your take on The Last of us Part 1 and 2. Also, maybe I misinterpreted what you were trying to say at 51:40, but I think it was unjustified to compare Kylo and Anakin. The way I see it, Anakin had a long, slow burning hatred that sparked from his fear of loss, over the (I think) 10 years between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of The Sith after his traumatic experience of his mother's death and then having the premonitions of Padme's death. As Yoda always says, fear is a path to the dark side, and I think the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader perfectly portrays that. Would love to hear your thought on this, and can't wait for your next video!
I wasn't really comparing them directly, but I think you are talking about the indirect comparison. What I was saying is that they are separate problems: Anakin's version of the dark side is one that gets brainwashed into being evil by the Power of the Dark Side and Kylo's version of the dark side is one that is boringly angsty. They are problems that come from different misunderstandings of The Dark Side, but they are similar in that they are both misunderstandings. See, what you've just written about Anakin's slow hatred based on fear of loss is a totally reasonable story that they *could* have told. In my defense it has been a while since I watched the movie, but in my memory what actually happens is that Palpatine tells him he can save Padme after Anakin's visions, Anakin believes him with no evidence, and this mere promise is enough to get Anakin to murder countless Jedi and innocents on his behalf. In that particular scene Palpatine is going "I can save her" or whatever and Mace is like "this is a literal sith lord" and Anakin up to that point has done nothing actually wrong in the movie. In fact Mace is here because Anakin reported to Mace that Palpatine is a Sith! The camera focuses on him looking mad and losing control and then he just turns on Mace. What you've described is a possible explanation for this behavior, yes, but the language of film they actually use portrays this as Anakin losing his mind. It looks more like Jack Nicholson in The Shining than William Macy in Fargo. This isn't a series of small compromises that run out of control, it is a huge precipitous action taken all at once. Anakin goes from Disgruntled Jedi to Full Sith Lord with no steps taken in-between. Whatever explanations we might like to believe it *looks* like evil space mojo that mind controls you into being evil. Kyle, Malicos, and Luke are all tempted by the power of the Dark Side being *actively* used to fuel their immediate and understandable goals. Goals that might even be good (justified revenge, survival, and the vanquishing of evil respectively). Anakin is just believing the promise of a madman, and the visuals don't portray misguided hope, or tortured choice, but insane rage.
Even though Galen Marek is not a Jedi, I’m still a little disappointed that you didn’t mention the ‘Force Unleashed’ games. That aside, I enjoyed this video. Great job.
Thanks! There are a few other jedi games that I have played and also didn't mention but none of them explore the mechanics and themes of a jedi in the way these two do. Force Unleashed IIRC was mostly about the excess of power and how it could be fun, but I don't think I finished the game.
No matter how many subscribers I have it's these kinds of comments and messages that give me the motivation to keep making these videos. So, thank you.
Yeah. I'm thinking about how to do it now. The thing is there's a lot to cover so I may do a focused video just on the twist, but then also do a playthrough with commentary (which I'd upload to like a separate channel). I am also considering livestreaming it so I could answer questions and such in the downtime if anyone wanted to drop by and ask any but that's also kind of stressful/a lot to pay attention to...I'm still mulling it over.
The teaser didn't give us much info but I also hope it will be good, for now though I'm sticking with low expectations and high hopes. I kinda think a JO remaster wouldn't really work, I think game mechanics have deviated too much from what made them great mechanically, and there isn't very much story to justify it.
While you do use a lightsaber in that game I wouldn't consider it a "lightsaber game" because it's so focused on the force power fantasy. In the same way I wouldn't say that Fallen Order is a force power game, force powers are there but they are a more minor part of your toolkit in the same way the lightsaber mostly was in Force Unleashed.
Oh awesome, just found out about your channel today. Was recommended your first Mandalorian video. Also just curious if you plan on discussing the Book of Boba and other Disney StarWars IP's?
I have not watched the Book of Boba and it doesn't look very interesting so I don't currently plan to, but if there's anything in Star Wars that captures my interest and I have something to say about it I will. Probably I'll do S3 of the Mandalorian and Fallen Order 2 when those come out, beyond that hard to say.
@@PlaysTheThing Fair enough, and I'd say you're right about Boba. I saw in a comment on a previous video that you had started the Clone Wars, how do you feel about that? I don't know if you stuck with it but it, but to me it's one that gets better the longer it goes on with an occasional bad arc every now and then.
I have watched it sporadically since then, but I'm still in the first ten episodes or so. The Anakin/Obiwan/Padme episodes were not really doing it for me, but I still intend to keep watching it.
I'm playing (and streaming) the game right now and the plan is to start work on a video about it as soon as I finish. If you are curious now you can look at the live tab on my channel for how I've reacted to any particular moment so far, I think I am pretty close to the end though.
I really feel like the dark side is just you using your emotions for power and that some force abilities to the Jedi are considered "dark force powers".
A very good video with very exhaustive insight and although I have a fair bits of disagreements with you, especially in regards to Cal's continuity as a character within SW media, I agree with your general conclusions about this game and Outcast (still the best lightsaber game IMO). After all the disappointments of post-2014 Lucasfilm content, this game is the first content since a while that made me feel investment for the story, so I appreciate it getting analysed.
I am still running an R9 390 and an 8th gen i5 unfortunately, but I haven't tried it recently as I've been busy. Obviously I am due for an upgrade so if it isn't working by June-ish my plan is to upgrade and play it.
I admire your self-restraint. It's an interesting problem though because the end of the game does feel like it's balanced around that ability. It's very similar to the debate about ash summons in Elden Ring. Personally I didn't use ash summons at all and I had a great experience, but in this one I did get the op force ability and that was a mostly negative experience. To what extent is it our job to manage our fun and refuse to use tools they give us that optimize the fun out of it is a complicated question, no doubt. Personally I think ER not having preset difficulty makes the ashes more acceptable and the brokenness of the stims in FO is less acceptable because there already are difficulty settings that should be giving me a streamlined experience without having to manage it in game.
You need to watch the Clone Wars man it’s the best Star Wars Content sense episode 5,6, and 3. I promise it is a tough grind for the first seasons but it is so worth it. It has so much character development and gives the prequels depth. I 100% recommend and if you do not watch this your satisfaction of Star Wars will be unsatisfactory and you don’t even realize it. Also watch Rebels after
I lost steam in Season 2 a while ago and I heard the ending was not particularly good so I haven't been motivated to try and pick it back up again. I will probably watch it at some point tho
I really like Jedi Fallen Order but it was missing something but even after 20 years im willing to replay Jedi Outast. The Story, The gameplay everything simply worked.
Ah, Jedi Outcast... Can it really be 20 years since it was released?! You've inspired me to go back and play it and this is a great critique!
Time flies. Thanks!
Great coverage of the game, your take always offers something new! Looking forward to your next project.

How does this only have 2k views? It's the best analysis of fallen order I've seen
It's relatively new for an old game and I don't have that many subscribers. But thanks :)
Cant wait to see your take on the Jedi Survivor sequel
8 thousand subscribers?
Really?
This channel needs more recognition.

Thanks, maybe one day I will.

I thought we got a couple of lightsaber games within that 20 year time period. The Force Unleashed?

after watching this I realized that I got the force stim upgrade wayyy too late
It's possible that may have helped you enjoy it more, who knows.
I really feel like the dark side is just you using your emotions for power and that some force abilities to the Jedi are considered "dark force powers".
What about Luke choking the Gamorreans? That's not presented as Dark Side in the movie so clearly that can't be the original intent
In Jedi Academy Kyle or Luke says something along the lines of "the abilities are neither light nor dark, it's how you use them"

I was hoping to stream it but unfortunately it is not yet running on my pc :(

I have such a very hard time with shows that I need to "grind" through to get to a good part. But I have been watching it slowly.
I would love to see you do a character and story break down of attack on titan which in my opinion is the best character development story of all time
