Flow - saw it earlier today… it was simply breathtaking. The long shot at the beginning was unlike anything I had seen before in animation… there were long stretches that felt like an animated version of Koyaanisqatsi. Also… a note on Ghostlight… certainly not an underrated film by anyone that has seen it… but definitely an overlooked film that still seems to be finding its audience… I was pleased with its Indie Spirit nominations… including for the John Cassevetes award. I have seen Janet Planet, but if you are looking for a pallet cleanser that may very well move you and leave you riveted I recommend Ghostlight.
Even though I'm not in the industry at all, I'm always interested in inside baseball talk. And also love hearing Christy talk sports even though I don't understand a single word lol
Aw, I feel like the final minutes of Hit Man really unlock the film as a whole. As a college instructor, he's teaching his class about moral relativism and how context and specific scenarios can completely change the rules of how we see and interact with the world. Ultimately, the film itself makes exactly this sort of shift, fully embracing the tone, and even narrative framework, of the genre it has been skirting around throughout its run-time. In the moment, the ending is kind of confrontational, but I think that it's by design - forcing the audience to question why everything takes such a dramatic turn and (hopefully) tying everything together in a way that fully marries his two lives as fake hit man and philosophy teacher. All that being said, Linklater is my favorite filmmaker, so I suppose I'm a bit biased.
Thanks for letting us know we should see "Flow." It's coming this weekend to my local Regal Theater and I was curious about it. Now, I'm definitely going to go this discounted Tuesday. ❤
I saw Flow yesterday and absolutely loved it. It covers some of the same ground as The Wild Robot, but does it better and with more sophistication, I feel.
Hollywood Pride is brilliantly designed, well researched, extremely well written;; a vital addition to film history that's essential for any serious film buff..
Flow is also definitely by far my favorite animated film this year...just like last year's robot dreams. We need more silent animated films featuring animals.
My favorite score of the year is Hans Zimmer’s work on Blitz. Easily. My hunch is The Substance is going to be completely overlooked by the Academy. It was reported the other day that Wicked Part Two will have two new songs. Jumping off what Alonso was saying about the National Board of Review voters being movie enthusiasts and not professional critics - unfortunately, a ton of “critics” on Rotten Tomatoes these days are little more than movie enthusiasts, too, who know next to nothing about film history, film craft, etc. It’s gotten so bad that one would probably be wisest to ignore the Tomatometer percentages and just find the critics worth their salt and look at what they have to say.
Hope you guys can catch Vermiglio and All We Imagine As Light before the end of the year. I like them both more than the films that won Cannes and Venice this year.
With all the movies you guys see during the year, do you ever get burned out on watching movies and just want to take a couple of months off without seeing a single film?
I loved the director of Flow's previous movie called 'Away'. Very haunting. Talking about Romanian movies there's a great one I saw this year called 'Freedom' set in 1989 about the fallout that happened when President Ceausescu was overthrown. Watching the army and the police desperately try to save themselves and convince everyone they were always on the people's side while trying to take control of the new political situation makes for fascinating viewing.
Thank you. Demi M is a definite nominee and could win the Razzie's Redemption Award. I only bring this up because Demi 'won' two Worst Actress Award and nominated another two. The Razzies have become half-baked jokes or sometimes falt-out mean.
Hey have you guys seen the Brazilian film I'm Still Here? It's definitely one of the year's best and Fernanda Torres gives such a great performance and deserves a nomination. 🙏♥️

Oh it is awesome, yes please go see it!
Thank you, guys. Sorry that I missed out. Here watching as promised.
Hope you had a great day!

Isn’t it gorgeous?
Totally forgot about Chicken For Linda! It’s streamable! Thank you!

Are you telling me for a fee I can be part of the national board of review and get early screenings 😅?
Christian they need you!
@ Right if just so I can make sure Maika Monroe is mentioned every year ! 😆
You can also join Film Independent, get screeners and vote for the Indie Spirits.

So you were all about the second-place prize-winners this year, eh?
After seeing The Brutalist, I think Felicity Jones is a big contender for Best Supporting Actress. She blew me away in the second half of the movie!

Do you think Hugh Grant will be nominated for Heretic? He was really good in it.
Thank you.

Sounds great
do you guys think conan will make any jay leno jokes?
Oh no, the animated film that disappointed Alonso is Wallace and Gromit, isn’t it?
I liked Anora, but it wouldn’t be in my top 5.

Meh.
@@SeekingFilm I strongly disagree! It's certainly not meh. 👎
@@davidfilmexpert it’s certainly not worthy of any awards, either. Perfectly fine film and performance, but that’s it.
Really looking forward to it.
@@SeekingFilmIt's meh? 😮
2024 is such a weak year for movies.
