I agree with you about the ergonomics for the small Feldspar, Nick. I have the small one and it just digs into your hand whenever you go to cut anything.
I live in NY and assisted knifes wont ship here, It is nice to see something other than a Spyderco that will. I just ordered this (small) Feldspar in the natural jade, I cant believe more knife makers arent dropping the dye and doing this it looks so sharp...at least in videos! I also like the contoured handle and the brass pivot collar adds a little class, this will definitely make it into the EDC rotation. nice review thanks!
I just replaced the factory clip with the titanium from Artisan and it made a huuuuuge difference on comfort. You’ll loose the deep carry, but it doesn’t ride too high and it makes the knife actually comfortable to hold. Worth the upgrade for sure.
@@wumboqwark 100% worth it, for a few reasons: $20 is on the low end for a titanium pocket clip, it turned a $35 knife I hated in to a $55 knife I love and use all the time, CJRB only offered the knife with a stock Ti clip for a brief period and it was $65 bucks so I’m still ahead, and (most importantly) people can spend their own money on whatever they want.
I have the small Feldspar and love it. Love the natural G10 "bile" color. I never noticed an issue with the clip. I must've gotten the one you tested here because QC was excellent -- well centered, no play, locks up solid, flicks nicely. I've realized that when we take a road trip and I can bring one knife, I bring this one. I even wore it in the ocean for a day when I forgot that it's D2 and not stainless.
I have both. They are great knives for the price. As of 2022, it seems like most of the issues are fixed: sharp out of the box, zero blade play. The uncomfortable clip on the small one can be remedied by cutting 1/4” off the end with a dremmel so it still makes contact with no additional protruding clip end. Very comfortable after that mod.
Another excellent video! Based on this review I bought the small Feldspar in natural G-10 (jade), and I’m sending it back. I had seen a few reviews that warned of quality control issues, and I got a bad one. The detent is so strong it’s extremely difficult to open with one hand. Impossible to flick. Also, the blade isn’t very sharp compared to my other knives (I can literally shave with my Cold Steel Pro Lite Sport), and it’s ever so slightly off center. You did warn me the clip was intrusive on the small Feldspar, and you were right. I would look past that if the action were better. I gave my girlfriend a Civivi Elementum for her B-day and the difference between them is night and day! I really wanted to like the Feldspar, but I’m going to spend the extra $15 and buy an Elementum for my main EDC.
I'm really digging what's happening in the budget knife market lately. Quality steels plus I think manufacturers are willing to be more creative at lower price points. This one has two sizes and several handle options around, again, good to go steel. The budget market is just more fun.
Hey Nick, love from Scotland! I am not even interested in this knife, but you're a great jackass to watch and pass the time ;) Thanks for the shout a few Christmases ago, if you remember :)
These are sweet. Look so good I just ordered the small one. I would have liked to see a wire pocket clip on the small one like some of the Spyderco's have.
Purchased this knife and while I like it I did have some issues. There was a gap between the blade and the lock to where when the blade was deployed and I shook the knife, it rocked forwards and backwards. I contacted support and when explaining the situation they instantly said “oh right, we’ll send you a new one.” This makes me think that this may be a more common problem/issue. Also they wanted me to pay shipping out of pocket to ship the blade back. I fought for a pre-paid shipping label. They said they would last week and I have yet to hear from them. Purchased directly from their website btw. Knife is nice if you get a good one. Customer service is a little less than desired.
I actually ended up preferring the small one just from it's size between the two. I definitely think you probably have the best QC version ever because mine definitely came with QC issues. I have really bad detent play on my little one, to the point the blade can be lifted enough for the tip to stick above the handle. I've poked myself with it. Thanks for the review!
I came here in search of the really honest reviews - glad I found you here buddy. I have heard nothing but awful things about lock rock issues , detent wobble and even side to side play that won’t cease even when you strangle the pivot and keep it so tight it won’t open. I have heard repeatedly that there are problems with the feldspar in particular , and the cjrb ria (the only two that I’m interested in tbh) and they both tend to have some serious issues that weren’t apparent in the beginning , and then started to reveal themselves as time went on. Did you have any lock rock issues with the blade being able to rock while locked ??? And I heard that people who had two of the same exact model, would have some with really early lockup, and some that are more than 75 percent lockup which concerns me that they have such a wide variety of lock geometry. But the reviews from Eugene Kwon are raving (but he didn’t receive the knife for free after gushing to them about how he liked the knife a lot - he may have had some bias there and I don’t blame him !) but I want the honest review because , every major reviewer is completely ignoring the issues we hear about and no one has touched on it, or has been willing to mention the QC issues here. I love the design, but now I’m worried about buying an archaeo or anything else before I get the real scoop - I don’t sell my knives and I wouldn’t want to sell one that has issues , and I’m not sure that they would let me return a used knife after it has issues. I want the real deal here - not the “oh my God how incredible this is !!” Reviews I’ve been seeing here. I wish reviewers didn’t get any knives for free , and I’m glad they disclose it, but that’s a really big “brown nose job “ from the co if you ask me. If I was giving special deals to the people who review my business, I would arrested. It’s illegal for me to act like that in team estate, but for knife sales it’s everywhere end kinda yuck to me. I come to reviews now, for the comments and the proper I trust. IE you buddy-/ you should start a channel.

Is the cjrb feldspar or the Ontario rat model 1 in aus-8 steel better? I used to have the Ontario rat model 1 and OD Green handle and aus-8 blade steel.
Do you think contouring is worth making the knife wider? To me contouring helps ergonomics and general comfort when cutting. I am curious on your view on the trade off. Thanks.
I picked up a CJRB Rampart with copper scales and the quality control is great for that. I'd suggest one if you're looking for an "aggressive gentlemen's knife". The only really fault is that the flipper tab is too smooth.
I have the small and the clip is bad, but I switched it for a Kershaw clip and now it is awesome. This is my second CJRB and they are absolute steals for the money.
This knife is really cool and fun to play with in the house... however using it outdoors is a different story. The action is very good at first but will slowly become not as great. Idk if I got a bad one but I literally any time I take this with me for the day I have to tighten the screw and clean / oil it due to the blade play that develops even after light use. Also, the blade will easily open in my pocket and I have cut my hand many times many times because of this... times. It Is very sharp when new but sharpening is a must. This knife will only stay effective with a lot of maintenance.... I mean even if all you do with the knife is flip it open for fun, you will need to tighten the screw often... basically I think it is a good budget flipper that will be a lot of fun for people that don't have any decent flippers and really aren't planning on doing much with it. Overall a fun little toy that will impress you with its action (until the screw starts becoming loose lol) but this will not be sufficient for hard use...
I picked up a Ria based on this mans review. Exactly what I needed and so far the quality is pretty wild for the price. I thought I'd have an issue with the lock, but the blade really slows down when it gets near half shut and it feels safe. will edit when i cut myself
I bought the large blue Feldspar a few months ago. Imo if CJRB gave this thing a detent ball ramp, made it an ounce lighter, and thinned out the blade stock, this could be a world beater
I wear xl gloves and I don't even feel the clip on the small feldspar in my hands, no matter how hard I squeeze the handle. On the other hand the clip on the large feldspar, while not terrible, I can definitely feel it when using the knife. All according to your hand size I guess, and as always, great video.
I can't price highly enough your striving for objectivity. Thumbs up, Nick! Even though I personally dislike this hands-waving right in front of the camera style of your videos. When hands are rapidly flicker right in from of viewer's eyes.
hi richard, my name is kevin. it is 4: 30 pm on mon. dec. 21 here in new york. i just ordered the large feldspar in jade from knifecenter.com. it was not in stock but should ship in 7 to 10 days. i dont know if you cant get it because of u.k. laws but i will get you one and ship it to you if you want / if i legally can. tomorrow i will go to my local post office and ask some questions. the knife only cost me 42 u.s. dollars, shipping included. send me an email if you want. catman707a@gmail.com if we can do it and shipping is not to much i will be happy to help. you can send me a personal check after you receive the knife.
@@kevinwalsh9483 that sounds great! I think US companies no longer ship to the UK because our tax rules have changed making it no longer profitable to do so. But if you can purchase and send me two of the jade small versions I’d really appreciate it and transfer you the funds? Many thanks. Richard
@Nick I appreciate that you carry these knives for a couple of weeks or a month or whatever before you review them. What I would like to know is, what do you do with them while you carry them? To me, 'carry' just means it sits in your pocket while you're walking around. What sorts of tasks do you routinely use the knives for during your carry period? Do you have a testing methodology that you put each knife through? Or do you just use them as, when, and if the need arises and the actual use can be different for each knife depending on the needs of the day?
Definitely, I ordered mine from prime yesterday and it'll be here today. This review is what convinced me, lol. For some reason I trust Nick's opinion, lol
I have big hands and hate, hate, when makers enlarge the sharpening choil as a bootleg fingerchoil. It’s like putting a fingerchoil on a knife that isn’t designed to have it. It never fits my finger so never use it and when cutting, material get caught on the choil. Spyderco designs many of their knives with finger choil in mind they are comfortable and usable.
What I find odd with reviews is, one reviewer doesn't like the pocket clip because they don't go to the end of the handle. You say the opposite. Simple solution. Take it off. Choile too small? Buy a different knife with a different sized choile. Knife manufacturers aren't mind readers, and as such, they make a wide variety of knives to suit the individuals taste. Some knife owners don't like them, some do. Some like jimping, and some don't. There are so many characteristics of a knife that it is almost impossible to find one that has everything just right. It took me three weeks to select my first knife to the characteristics I was looking for in a knife. And still after selecting the one that I bought, it still wasn't 'the' perfect pick. I will just learn to accept and live with it. Just my point of view. Thanks for sharing the video. Nice knives. Cheers!
I bought this knife about a month ago. I carried it for 2 days before the clip got bent. When i tried to remove it, I realized that the top clip screw is the only one that’s threadlocked shut. I now have a beautiful knife that I can’t carry.
This could be a record. Most times you ever said that you appreciate it very much in any video? Could be. And for us 10 percenters we appreciate very much having the option to switch the clip even though the frame lock stinks for us.
I ll take 3 of these over a $200 piece and anyone who has been using a good quality controlled will agree . Yeah there’s nicer but they all cut and some are more comfortable like the big one . . I messes with the clip to get it to my liking and lost the clip in another and it has done very well in the garage for years now . I also have a stainless n wood old craftsman that is absolutely badass . I think it was $15 or $20 back in 1999.😊. It’s been awesome for that long and a sharp blade is as easy as an insert is the best thing about a good small utility blade knife but the feldspar has been there when I needed her and she still good so far . I d use anythjng tbh I’m just praising it because it’s been and it’s more comfortable than others and the green hides the extra space for the clip if it bothers any f other collectors which I know it does 😊
As a lefty, I often find that knives with right-hand-only clips are quite comfortable, and sometimes find it hard to decide whether to flip the clip on an ambidextrous one.
I have your small one. Brutally honest for me it’s just another cheap foreign knife of which like you said we are awash in. I would sell mine to anyone who wants it. It’s just like new.
I’m such a sucker for a D2 knife for under half a Ben.Pepridge farms remembers when a D2 knife would set you back a couple of Bens for an “affordable” folder. I have almost completely stopped EDCing super steel folders, it’s just too much of a pain to fix nicks and edge roll overs. Super steels will damage just as easily as more mundane, plebeian steels. Difference is, I can make a D2 blade, scary, fucking, sharp, with a minimum amount of effort.
Ok… how much should I worry about the law when choosing between these two? The larger one is only $1 more which puts it into free shipping on Amazon, so it ends up being cheaper. I don’t plan on mugging anyone. Just handy purposes.
Just what the knife world needs another budget line of folders, I will admit in spite have not having purchased one it sure appears Artisan has hit it out of the park with this line going toe to toe with Civivi.
The logo is crap and looks like a kids sneaker company imho. Them and Kansept look so utterly cheap imho. They need some better logo designs imho. Blocky Cap letters with no style to speak of. Just yuck when it’s pasted on a blade. I hate bill boarding. Advertise on someone else’s knife please. Sheesh. Next we will have Best Buy logos and Safeway icons too at this rate. I thought we moved always from Billboards on knives.
Both are drop points so they will always have that commonality but TRM (everything but the fixed blade and nerd follow the same basic pattern and even then it's close) drops their spine faster and raises the cutting edge slower compared to the Fieldspar. TRM also uses a more pronounced curve on the spine of the handle giving it more of a banana like shape whereas the Fieldspar has a very Griptilian handle to me. Granted this is all done by holding my Neutron and mini-grip up to the monitor and comparing side by side so yeah I might be nitpicking it a touch.
The CJRB scales are contoured...TRM's Neutron and Atom totally flat. Among other major differences, like blade material, blade thickness, overall thickness, phosphor/bronze vs. bearings, weight, cost...etc..... ...but for $35, whose complaining. 😬
Thick blades definitely have advantages but can be a disadvantage if the edge is thick or the grind isn’t done right…a knife is supposed to cut things. A great example of this is the Cold Steel/Andrew Demko AD10, thick blade but great grind and thin edge, slices great.
I fucking love the color of undyed G-10, it literally is jade colored and you can see the internal workings better. Idk why you're so against it? Like you get so negative whenever it's on a knife. I understand the subjective nature of reviews, but it stands out to me.
“Small in the Choil” was my nickname in high school
mine was Dull Edge
Bit of a mouthfull for a nickname. Sounds like you weren't though. Gotta love irony.
Classic lines without being boring; a fine line to walk. This does that.

Checking EU prices right now.
For the big one
I put on a Civivi deep carry clip as it has less hots spot and it matches the fininsh of the blade much better.

You may be able to overcome the threadlock by applying heat to it.
This could be a record. Most times you ever said that you appreciate it very much in any video? Could be. And for us 10 percenters we appreciate very much having the option to switch the clip even though the frame lock stinks for us.
That's a liner lock; but as a fellow lefty I don't have a problem with either.
James Rodgers You can close both liner locks and frame locks with only your left hand while holding the knife with your left hand? I can’t do either.
For the $32 I paid for the small it's a excellent knife.
I d use anythjng tbh I’m just praising it because it’s been and it’s more comfortable than others and the green hides the extra space for the clip if it bothers any f other collectors which I know it does 😊
On the small Feldspar flip the clip to leftie carry, no clip hot spot in the hand.
The clips on my Wave A+(modded w/video), and my Griptilian are leftie flipped. Now the ergos are not a gymsock full of wasps.
As a lefty, I often find that knives with right-hand-only clips are quite comfortable, and sometimes find it hard to decide whether to flip the clip on an ambidextrous one.
Good knife, Mr. Burton
Lo Pan in the house!
Reminds me the griptilian family of knives
I have your small one. Brutally honest for me it’s just another cheap foreign knife of which like you said we are awash in. I would sell mine to anyone who wants it. It’s just like new.
This is why I hate deep carry pocket clips. Only ones I found the don't hot spot are the wire clips and the clip on Spyderco Nilakka.
Just take my goddamed money!😂!
Good review! I will just skip these and take a Centauri, large in micarta. 😬
Well I’m sold
Tip up! No tip down! *laughs in zipper pocket*
I appreciate your review. 😂
CJRB vs Civivi ? Your thoughts on what's a better knife for the money Nick?
I own the Feldspar but I would pick the Elementum over it any day.

You’re welcome
That cutout for the clip is weird...
looks like the atom and neutron
Do you think you could put the centros blade on the larger one?
... no.
Nested scales, contoured liners... wait what? Never seen those before, especially not in this pricepoint :D
Never seen a Ganzo?
Undyed G10 is refreshing.
I like everything about it except I find the scales to be slippery, which is a turn-off for me. Still carry it though.
Hi again bois
Disclaimer is not lamenated. Old recording?
*Laminated
Maybe he lost the old one.
I was thinking the same thing.
Ok… how much should I worry about the law when choosing between these two? The larger one is only $1 more which puts it into free shipping on Amazon, so it ends up being cheaper. I don’t plan on mugging anyone. Just handy purposes.
This vs the mini bugout?
Is the feldspar on bearings?
He has a disassembly video…and yes, it is.
@@scotteger6271 Thank you.
Just what the knife world needs another budget line of folders, I will admit in spite have not having purchased one it sure appears Artisan has hit it out of the park with this line going toe to toe with Civivi.
Can't see the logo and not think it says "ORB"
It didn't occur to me until I read that. Now I can't see anything else.
I thought we moved always from
Billboards on knives.
Is it bad that I mouth the disclaimer along with you? I have watched far too many of your videos 🤣🤣
I like cheap knives. I just got the sage 5 and straight spine stretch. Both are Gems but pricey.
Lose the belt clip entirely👍👍. Amen , she’s perfect 😍
Oh my god Nick. Laminated one video, not the other, then laminated again, then not. You're killing me here.
This video may be older. The Nick has a back log.
If you really like thumb studs, I guess they are ok. Ganzo still takes the win for quality and value. I love the FH41.
Jack Nemo nailed it. I am so sick of knives with non flowing lines….
These look kinda TRM-esque
Kinda true tho
I've thought that since they first came out. Glad it's not just me 👍
Both are drop points so they will always have that commonality but TRM (everything but the fixed blade and nerd follow the same basic pattern and even then it's close) drops their spine faster and raises the cutting edge slower compared to the Fieldspar.
A look at a slightly thicker blade as being superior. It’s objective.
Thick blades definitely have advantages but can be a disadvantage if the edge is thick or the grind isn’t done right…a knife is supposed to cut things. A great example of this is the Cold Steel/Andrew Demko AD10, thick blade but great grind and thin edge, slices great.
So I guess you could say one is labradorite and the other is just orthoclase eh?
If I want to see a knife properly fidgeted with during the review, I go to Nick Shabazz's channel.
I fucking love the color of undyed G-10, it literally is jade colored and you can see the internal workings better. Idk why you're so against it? Like you get so negative whenever it's on a knife. I understand the subjective nature of reviews, but it stands out to me.
Ontario Rat numba thoo !
