Put it this way: I've been a fan of Imelda for many years now, and loved her old style. And as much as I wanted to be disappointed that she strayed into new territory: I can't be. She's managed to pull off this new style quite brilliantly and has produced a thoroughly enjoyable song. Quite simply, the woman is insanely talented, and that's a fact that shouldn't be overlooked
Wow I read through some of the comments..Whao.. Its to bad that young people today think anything outside the genre they are into.. crap.. Im 70 so I know about rockabilly.. then one day Imelda started to sing some different stuff.. Wonderful stuff. True artists evolve.. Today you are hearing the popular music of my day in the elevators.. But really good music .. crosses genre.. Imelda.. well done very well done.. beautiful song.. beautiful voice.. love it.
Same age as you Mike.. I have just been chatting about Imelda.. The person said her music is dark now and she sold her soul???? I was surprised by that comment..... She has a great voice..
First time I heard this track on the G.norton show, what a great voice, great song and sung so well live, I was hooked and now want to hear more of her.....
I've been to see Imelda on a number of occasions and looking forward to seeing her in May at the London Palladium. She's changing pretty much the way life does and I'm all for that.
thankyou what a wonderful song, that made me cry, today i heard it for the first time on the graham norton show, 22-11-17, then went to the internet, to here, My partner of 27 yrs died 29-6-2017, and this is week 20 days since, i have cried every day , still angry and sad, and in love, thankyou so much for your lovely song
I'm sad to see so many people saying they don't like the new Imelda. So few people understand that a divorce is hellish, and who can blame her for not playing the rockabilly style that she played for so long with her husband? She's still a great singer and I love to see artists try new things. She'll make happy music again soon enough, she doesn't need grief from her fans.
I miss the rockabilly, really would like to hear more of that again but, if this is what Imelda wants to express with her music, why not? In the end is her voice her talent, even better if she can identify more with the sings, even if I prefer rockabilly I still like her.
Porn industry would be better for her now. This crappy music ain't gonna take her anywhere. She did have her time, now it is over. No one will remember after this crap.
I think it's brilliant all the songs off the new album so far have been great It's just a album she had to get out of her system pretty much the same a Shakin Stevens new album Echoes of our times very different but people move on but 99.9% of the time go back to there Rock N Roll roots so relax all come good in the end 😎
I absolutely love this . I actually hadnt heard of Imelda previously and i saw her on the Palladium and thought WOW this is a fantastic song. I had a look at her other rockabilly songs,(which are very good, i do like) but they pale into significance with this! This is a real eye opener for Imelda, very HER. This style of music suits her to a big T. And very apt lyrics. Chrissie Hynde comes to mind. and she is special too.
Imelda, I love this! My friends and I participated in the 2017 Women's March (largest protest ever in Washington D.C. and huge around the world) and I was proud to wear a pink hat! I realize this is just one one of your songs, I've loved your music for years, but it's beautifully sung and filmed and we all need to remember "Women hold up half the sky". We're with you, big time.
As a guy I was there too, representing for my introvert girlfriend! It was the biggest gathering I've been in in my life (Over 200,000 strong in the streets of Denver!) The vibe was cool and I was proud to part of it.
I have had the pleasure of working with Imelda for a few years now and she is one of the kindest, most beautiful souls one could meet. So caring and genuine warmth to everyone.... I'm delighted to hear a new sound and see a new look... She has evolved so much, emotionally and it has manifested itself physically.
But there's never enough, is there. Using all forms of social media? As though she has to have a constant presence of people won't listen to her music?
I'm very glad to hear first hand knowledge of her kindness. Her talent is not disputed; however, we too often judge an individual prematurely. . . .a person we really have no clue about yet the general public thinks n believes everything read or heard about an individual.,..the fact is most of us don't know a well-known individual personally but people are people.... famous or not .....thank u for confirming what comes thru in her performances!
Always loved Imelda and have seen her live a few times. Today is the first time I've watched the film rather than just listen to the track (all vinyl, no turntable until I can afford it - oversharing!). Powerful.
I am moved to tears listening to your new song Imelda. 'It should've been you'.Oh my God what an amazing voice you have and such a beautiful song. My absolute favourite, I can't wait to get the new album. I can't get it out of my head, truly a work of art!! Bernie
Just Heard Imelga in Belfast April gig in Waterfront she was Fantastic such an amazing Artist Singer and Poet I love her Heart that is Portrayed in her wonderful Lyrics and Voice so glad to have heard her live for the first time Superb Artist xo

Going to jump in this pool as a Huge fan of her early work and look. For obvious reasons the change was due to the personal life which fans of hers are well aware. The new look as well as the direction T Bone Burnett took it has taken some time getting used to, however now I can honestly say I like a good 80% of the new album.
Love this video and song, for those who say Imelda is far from her "original" sound must have not heard black tears and how bad can a good girl be yet. Not exactly rockabilly but not far from it, every artist evolves as they go on and Just a change in hair not a big deal, love how imelda is moving forward with her music
Absolutely love this song from the very first moment I heard it and, as a filmmaker myself, this video is a pure work of art. Well choreographed and filmed in what appears to be a single take it is a testament to the Producer, Director, and whole production team. Study it, so much can be learnt from it as an example of the craft.
Imelda looked amazing with the quiff, she looks amazing now! She was and is an awesome singer making wonderful music. All great artists move on, change, and grow.
One of the best videos - songs of 2017; highly under-rated: not enough views, likes. Should be in the top 100 - top 50 - top 25 in the list of the best of 2017.
Great voice. So hard to change direction and I like it!. Being true to yourself and others. A tip of the hat on this track to The Pretenders which is never a bad thing. xx
To all those complaining about Imelda's new approach, it has brought her an entirely new audience, which can only be a good thing. I hadn't heard of her before until I saw Black Tears with Jools Holland and was blown away! Looks spectacular and sings beautifully. Let her be angry about her break up. I am a little confused. I have loved Imelda May for a few years now; after seeing her on the Graham Norton Show. Love her music and she is so funny, smart and kind on chat shows. I love this album and think it is the best thing (that I am aware of) that was released in 2017, hands down. I am not sure where everyone is writing from, but, in the U.S. this is NOT mainstream; anymore than Adele or Amy Winehouse. If it is mainstream where you are living, please, let me know, so, I can buy your entire country's top 100. This was produced by T-Bone Burnett, who worked with ROY ORBISON. Working with Roy Orbison's producer is not a far leap from rock-a-billy. She wrote the song (all songs on her album except for 4 which have 1 co-writer). She has other material that is not strictly rock-a-billy from previous years. She has collaborated with Devil Dolls. Jeff Beck, Levelliers...... for a more soul-pop or blues sound. She has covered U2, Patsy Cline, Blondie, Mary Ford/Les Paul and classic standards....... So, my confusion is: how is this a sell out or a "new" Imelda? We all have many sides to us (well many of us do); We all go through periods in life where we express ourselves in different styles; hopefully we all grow/change from our experiences. She wrote the song, specifically picked T-Bone, maintained artistic control and this is how she wants to express herself musically, right now. Should she not be allowed to do that because some people have stuffed her into some mind box in their own head? Maybe, her husband, who she divorced, was the one who didn't want to do anything but rock-a-billy...............who knows........I love her from A-B, musically. Wondering why other can't do the same... I know she is a big fan of Wanda Jackson's. So in the words of one of Miss Jackson's songs about rock-abilly.....,"we took a little country music, some rock and dressed it up in soul...' That just about covers all modern influences...........
mlduree My first time listening to the new Imelda, and It sounds like mainstream pop music to me. I’m not complaining that she’s changed her sound, she has to do what’s right for her, but I definitely prefer the old Imelda. It doesn't matter how old you are when a song moves you to tears.
MUSIC IS LIFE......68 years old.
63. Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Six years on and I still cry every time listening to Imelda sing this beautiful song.
I've only recently discovered Imelda. She's great. Very talented.
Yeah me too, she's brilliant.
She was better when she was a Rockabilly singer.
Her famous Rockabilly husband introduced her to us.
But she turned her back on the music that made her.
She's not married to him anymore.
But I'm not too keen on her new style of music now....
I think this is the greatest music video that I have ever seen.
ITS EMBARRESSING TO BE 73 YEARS OLD AND CRY WHEN I HEAR THIS MAGNIFICENT SONG , I THINK I LOVE IMELDA !
Senility is a terrible thing.
Bienvenida la senilidad entonces,si los cuerdos son como vos, o sea un IDIOTA!

this album is the peak of Imelda's artistry. I hope she only continues upwards from here
Absolutely love this song, it rings true for so many women, and Imelda's new look, she looks amazing.
