The one at 07.10 in this video is one of them and I used to live close to it. The last coal fired power station in the UK in operation closed on 30 September 2024 after nearly 55 years and they ran the turbines pouring the coal into the boilers until the last second. They are as old as I am and it's a bittersweet feeling as I come to end of my career seeing them fall one by one. They will drop the last one as I retire but a few people are thinking we should retain a few of the cooling towers as a monument to our industrial heritage. I agree.

The VERY sad thing about demolitions are how long it took to first create and build these architectural creations; sweat and long hours for construction workers to build only to be destroyed!
