    One of my first times flying, the pilot told us that our landing gear wasn’t working and we flew around for two hours to lower our fuel level and landed with no landing gear. Worst experience in my life. I’ve hated flying ever since.

    When I was flying with my daughter's class to Europe, we hit turbulence as we crossed the Atlantic. One of my daughter's friends was quite scared and was convinced that we were going to crash. I explained to her that we were crossing the gulf stream and that the temperature of the water caused the air above it move which in turn would cause the turbulence we were experiencing. However inside my head, i was thinking, this is the worst turbulence I have ever experienced, i hope we don't crash. Calm on the outside, shitting myself on the inside. My daughter asked me about it later and I told her that I was just guessing about what was causing the turbulence and I just wanted to help her friend feel less afraid. Bullshitting on the fly, a very convenient parenting skill to have.

    I’ve always been ok flying through turbulence, but flew through a lightning storm once that was pretty wild. I know planes are designed to take the strikes, but it was still a little stressful to be eye level with lightning 😅

    • @parkercarpy810
      @parkercarpy810 3 года назад +17

      Fun fact you don’t see the lighting go from the cloud to the ground that’s straight up invisible lightning which sounds terrifying tbh. But that invisible bolt causes a second visible discharge going up from the ground to the cloud.

  • @rolandozapata2965
    @rolandozapata2965 3 года назад +80

    Here’s the ironic thing! I was literally Army Combat Aviation my whole military career and flew in helos 1000’s of times; but now flying fixed wing like this does scare the sh** out of me. Like you said it’s all good if it’s a smooth flight and when you get to your destination you’re like that was nothing but you know deep down you have to fly back after your trip is over lmao 🤣 then all the anxiety kicks in again! I’m not going to lie, I close my eyes and say my prayers before every trip and when turbulence hits I look 👀 at everyone’s reaction and some people still reding there book all casual and I’m thinking to myself am I the only scared ass in this plane! But deep down I’m sure people are doing the same thing.
    And you know Nikko a combat landing and take off! Civilians would freak out with those. Have you ever experienced a combat landing? In a C130 or bugger AF aircraft- literally throw flares and when flying into a combat zone they shoot straight down fast 💨 before leveling and then landing! Anyone else experience that when gong into a combat zone??? That’s probably what fd me up. I swear my gf and friends are like wtf didn’t you fly around almost half your life and now you avoid flying or freak out! I used to think nothing if it man until all my missions and I was literally done with my service then boom flying or any kind of enclosed areas like elevators- I ain’t having it! I’ll be all up 10-20 flight of stairs i swear and my gf tries to hype me up and I say I warned you coming here we are humping up those stairs. I even say go ahead I’ll meet you there and she’s a good person- she’ll hump those stairs with me lmao 🤣

    I used to hate flying, but eventually got used to the turbulence. On one flight, I couldn't resist and the guy beside me was white knuckling the arm rest during some turbulence and I had to have a bit of fun. I looked intently out the window for a few seconds, hurriedly sat up straight, pushing my head back into the headrest and closing my eyes, then looked at him, took a deep breath and said, "Don't worry, there are multiple engines."

    As a crew chief for the UH-60, when I encounter turbulence in a plane, I'm not fazed nearly as much. Being in a helicopter only a couple hundred feet off the ground vs thousands of feet when encountering turbulence, it provides a whole different perspective. Every time I've encountered bad air while flying, my first thought was: "I guess today's the day. Let's gooo." In a plane, I typically curse the pilots for not getting us out of the pocket sooner, to prevent my drink from spilling lol.

    Nikko, back in 08' we were landing at Al Asad airbase in a c141 and I had a boot asleep beside me and before we took off I joked with him and told him how we had to land because these planes are big target's and a few had been shot down. As soon as the planes started his nose dive and the g's started to kick in i grabbed him and shook him to wake him up and screamed "were going down!!!!" He pissed himself and passed out. It was hilarious

    Though regarding the video, even though I'm a civilian with some flight hours I'll say this...we hate turbulence too. Had a lesson one day flying from La Porte Tx to Livingston in 20 mph crosswinds...in a Cessna...good lord my shoulders hurt from trying to keep that damn thing flying straight and away from the radio towers with guide wires at the same height as me. The whoosh you are hearing when the pilot comes on in the first clip is the aircrafts speedbrakes deploying so the pilots can slow to the aircraft’s turbulence penetration speed and to also create more drag so the aircraft can descend and slow more effectively.

    Ha! I used to have to fly alot, mostly in small bush planes like Cesna 185s, Beavers, Otters etc. as I worked in remote logging camps throughout s.e. Alaska. And having taken the ground school course offered in high school, I know that a tail wind can get you there faster. I was so used to
    turbulence that the rougher the flight,
    the faster I fell asleep.😠 I wanted to watch out the window. Flew to Kodiak on a 727 and woke up when
    we started our decent, it had been so rough that half the women were crying. Everybody applauded the pilots when we came to a stop. I hate it when flying in fog or low clouds. Thank you for your service Nikko, and all those that serve and served in the military.

  • @Robnoxious77

    The worst turbulence i ever experienced was a short domestic flight in one of those tin can twin engine things where the cockpit was open to the rest of the cabin, so more like a flying minibus. Anyway, we were flying into a storm and what first raised the alarm bells was watching the pilots scream at each other as to whether or not they should turn around and go back. After that, some tubby business man in the back seat thought he didn’t need to put his seatbelt on like everyone else. So we were circling over the water and looking out the window the plane was literally jumping hundreds of feet towards the water then blasting back into the sky over and over again. The dude on the back seat was literally falling off the roof and bouncing off the floor while desperately trying to grab onto his seat. Meanwhile, the guy next to me was crying and sobbing “we’re all gonna die, we’re all gonna die”. Something snapped in my head and I started laughing hysterically. The guy next to me screamed “what the fuck is wrong with you!” and I laughed back at him “hey dude, at least it’ll be quick, on the way though, this is a sick ride!!”. Somehow that calmed him down. A female school teacher in front of me was digging her fingers into the seat in front of her and screaming “holy fuck” over and over again. When we landed, we all cheered for the pilots. We were meant to take a connecting flight, but me and the two guys i was traveling with decided to rent a car and drive instead. Wild times.

    1:42 Aviator here. Yes, you can indeed bring your own parachute onto an aircraft, as long as it is light enough to be counted as carry-on. Also, beware that most airlines might not let you bring a bag as carry-on if you have the parachute. The bag would usually have to be done as luggage.

      the doors are near impossible to open in stable flight and probably even harder if your rapidly descending. Its probably possible if the aircraft has a massive hole in it however the feds will probably be in your sh1t because you brought a parachute to a perfectly functional airplane.

We had to give up our glasses and shoes with heels to the attendants who came around with bags and then get into a crash position with our feet on the floor, head in our laps and I don't remember what else. It was well into the nineties before I flew again.

    One of the most intense flying experiences I ever had was one time I was flying out of Tampa Florida during storm season. I fell asleep half an hour after take off only to wake up an hour later to the sound of my mom screaming and shaking me. Apparently we had flown through a thunder storm and the plane ended up dropping almost 600 feet straight down. Was like a fucking roller coaster. Honestly I’ve never had trouble flying since then because if we die, we die. There is no escaping a metal cylinder hauling ass through the air of things go to chill

    As someone who has been in Aviation for over 10 years I have experienced turbulence in all types of aircraft from helicopters and small propeller aircraft to B747s. Turbulence is always stronger at the back of a plane and the further forward of the wing you go the smoother it will be. When traveling privately, select a seat near the front and 99.99% of the time, you will not experience bad turbulence. If you ever deploy on a flight with my former employer, Atlas Air, get on the bag team and that will usually get you put in a seat forward of the wings.

    I mean, you're statistically safer flying, but the odds of surviving a plane crash are probably really low.

    • @burstingwizard975
      @burstingwizard975 3 года назад

      Depends where you're sitting. 93% of accidents are survivable but that doesn't mean 93% of people survive. The further back in the plane you're sitting, the better your odds are. If you're sitting above the wings then you have a 54% chance of survival

Last time I flew was from bootcamp to my a-school and on my way the window was rattling, and I could feel air coming through it and we hit turbulence and the entire plane shook a bit. Feb 2018 Rome, Italy - The night before I left a big storm hit, my flight was an early flight at 6am, the storm had not let up. The pilot let us know that that it was going to be a rough take-off but once got above the storm it would be smooth sailing.
    We started shaking and rattling and rolling, which this California Earthquake girl can handle, but then we started to hit the air pockets, where we started to free fall for a few seconds and you can feel your stomach move to your throat, that's when everyone on the plane starts to yell, but what so hilarious was 2 rows in front of me to the right, was a little girl in the center seat about 8 years old, and she was giggling, laughing so loud, raising her hands like a roller coaster, and every time we dropped she would yell: WEEEEEE!!!!! she was having the best time! This went on for about 10 minutes, then we got above the storm.
    I don't have a fear of flying, turbulence doesn't bother me much either, I just thought it was hilarious this 8-year-old was having the best time when grown men were doing the Hail Mary. Life is all about perspective. It was the adult that was faced with the regrets of life, the should've, could've, would've, the needing forgiveness, it was the child that was finding the way to laugh through all the ups and downs, let's not lose that as we grow up because in life we are going to have the ups and downs, how we respond is up to us.
