For me this ending is the best ending of Re:zero, yet. There's something in the ending, the sentimental feeling that carried by the gentle yet melancholy song and the visual is a feast for the eye even with the minimalistic background yet that white and dark background for me is the visual way to convey the tragedy of Re:zero.

It's really impressive how much you can feel just from watching subaru and emilia holding hands, no joke, the music and the slow movement of emilias hand griping subarus really give off a lot of feeling, hats off to white fox and the animators.

In my later rewatches, I observed this too. Subaru gets very close to Emilia very quickly the first time.
The rest of her iterations are more reserved as he acts much more desperately after his revival from death.

This is probably the best isekai
Nobody seems to be talking about how the light and dark colors represent Subaru's place in the world, and how narrow his view is.
Notice the characters against completely black backgrounds. He has absolutely no context. He sees these characters, but has no idea of their place in the world. And the characters he can clearly see, are just shown in stillshots. You can't see much of their personality from that, just glimpses. Even Emilia has her back shown to him. And Elsa is completely shrouded in shadow, a threat beyond his comprehension.
However, there are 3 clear backgrounds, and those are his memories with Emilia. She's the only context he has in the world, and the black backgrounds are broken up by her white snowflakes. Notice how her hand stretches from the darkness andbcurls around his as they lay on the ground. That's all Subaru knows; that's all Subaru has in this world. Only at the end does he have her.
And then death comes in and takes that light away. It snatches it from his world by taking her from him. And yet, it is only through Return by Death that he is given the light he needs to return, as the hand turns to white.
It's poetic, and it shows so much of Re:Zero by showing nothing.
One of the most Chilling Ending.

1:02 when Subaru first promised Emilia that he would save her- Emilia believed him.
Pretty sure she doubted him. In the novels, the scene describes his word as bearing no weight, incomprehisble hope, however Emilia does in fact grasp onto Subaru's hand as they both die.

But that part got me more in chills when I consider to think about it...It feels like the ED...especially that part, shows some huge revelations which is a big part to the story...like if we think about this...Subaru's first restart happens after he vows to save her...after that a lot of us thinks...that is the reason why he had that ability...but what if...there is part that wasn't shown in the anime but shown in the ED, about the real reason why he had that ability. Cause what if...RbD activates...after Emilia held his hand. The reason I said that was because of the transition happened after that part...after holding Subaru's hand, the transition then goes white...and then a heartbeat like shadow started to burst and then it explodes...covering the white with the whole darkness as a hand appeared by then...which basically signifies Return by Death. So that gives me the idea...that maybe that was the case...though it is still a theory made by me...so it is not 100% sure in the end...just my interpretation...but if that was the case...a very brilliant idea to hide that part in the anime and just shows it in the ED...since they maybe speculated that only few of us would check the ED.
That was just my speculation...but in Light novel...did she really hold his hand? If that is true..then my speculation could be the reason that the staff hides it so that no one would be suspicious...and then just flawlessly added it to the ED!! If this true..then I don't know what to say but..."Sugoi."

However I think you are overthinking this, as that beginning scene was in fact for visual purposes (the heartbeat, etc.) to show his very first activation. Notice how it never happens again, which really doesn't make sense considering its a power about time travel (which, technically speaking, he could've had the moment he spawned in). Same thing with Invisible Providence. The heartbeat represented by the clapsed hands. It's just visual.
..also, as much as Tappei likes to screw with his fans, I doubt he would add such an important detail to a single ED.. it really is important, you know?

When I first saw the ED, and then that part came, I was stuck for a moment to think about where have I seen that part...and as far as I could remember, ep 1, Subaru and Emilia's first death is the scene that can only came up to my mind...now that you have said it, I just wonder why do they cut a part such as like that. This is the same with how they cut the Satella=/=Witch of envy. So I was just thinking maybe they did that for future references. That is the only reason I think about this so not certain on why...cause if I am the audience...and if they add that part, I may be suspicious about Emilia being related to what Subaru has.

This wasn't even that long ago but it was one of my first anime all the way back in 2018 when life felt slower and much calmer, and because of that Re:zero will always stick with me, I remember it leaving a huge impact on me back then that stuck for ages and still somewhat there even now so, even tho it's not that old, re zero is a source of major nostalgia for me
It is the same for me. I watched it back in 2017 when I was around 11 or 12 years old. I think this is why it feels so nostalgic for me. Another factor that contributes to the nostalgia is the song itself. It was specifically made for this anime and designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia that aligns with the story of Re:Zero.

I will never forget the first time I watched ReZero 2 year's ago. It's truly a (dark) but unforgettable moment for me.
Watched it again along with season 2 which i hadn't seen before and it reminded me why i was prepared to say that it was my favorite anime when i first watched it years ago. Subaru is the embodiment of never giving up. He never got OP and remained weak the whole time, but found strength in himself and preserved trying to get a happy ending for everyone he cared about. One of the best protags ever for me.

Definitely, he's not even out of shape or anything he's just a normal dude physically in a supernatural world. But what makes him so strong is his mental fortitude and bonds he made letting him eventually always come out on top.

Read the LN it’s still ongoing The Anime cuts out a lot of exposition and worldbuilding for more action,The novel goes into detail about things like the political state of Lugunica, the surprisingly complicated magic system, and the lives of supporting characters like Crusch and Wilhelm,the novels flesh out Subaru a lot more than the anime, which makes some of his more selfish actions in the later story arcs more understandable (if not necessarily justifiable).

Some of them will go to Rezero videos just to insult the show or deny that it's a masterpiece when someone comments that. Their comments can receive dozens of likes by other AoT fans sometimes. Some of the attack on titan fandom seems to have a grudge with Rezero for some reason. On multiple occasions, they've bombarded rezero episodes on review sites with 1-star reviews. It's very strange to be honest.

If you read the lyrics, it becomes clear that this sone was written in the perspective of Satella.
Man at 1:10 that is so sad because I think this timeline was the best relationship between subaru and emilia. And she clearly loved him from the first day as seen by 1:10 in this ED. Sadly the rest of S1 was him idealizing Emilia, but sadly she is not the same person as this timeline. Thankfully at the end of S2 they become much closer, but I wonder if they would ever have the bond they could have had if the original timeline played out.
That timeline can turn out to be a beautiful relationship
