Super useful video, I wish you'd posted it before the holidays tho. Also, you should do a series on gear, like "What to look for in a helmet" or backpack or a jacket or a boot
Custom foam injected boot liners (and soles of course) was a huge gamechanger for me. The best regular liners don't come close. Not good for jibbers or touring perhaps but absolutely amazing for anything else. Charging off piste, stomping landings, charging carves through anything, ski racing. Turns a good skier in to a great skier with strong style. Try it!
Dude, the booster under the shell really is the shit! I’ve done all these upgrades either before or after this video, and I agree wholeheartedly on ALL of them. My tip isn’t gear related, but kind of. Skip buckling the 2nd buckle right over your foot bone. It causes pain if too tight and very little upside if it’s just right. I skip it and it allows me to move my toes better inside the boot. Cuff tightness is what matters the most to me.
Just got my ski kit all set up after skiing about 14 trips total to stop spending money on rentals. Without the ski shop employee asking to buy insoles. I immediately felt uncomfortable in the stock ski boot insoles. Custom insoles do make all the difference! Better arch support helps relieve any pressure points that you feel in the boot prior to.
00:00 🎿 Upgrading to powder baskets for ski poles prevents them from sinking in deep powder, a cheap upgrade at $10. 00:38 🥾 Booster straps offer a tighter ski boot top, enhancing control; installing them involves measuring, cutting, and securing the strap. 01:47 🌈 Opt for all-weather lenses for goggles that work across various conditions, enhancing visibility without being too dark. 02:19 🛠 Edge tuners, around $40, allow adjusting ski edge angles; recommended setting: 89 degrees side angle and one degree base angle. 02:56 👣 Swap synthetic ski socks for wool ones for warmth, reduced odor, and improved comfort; invest in custom footpads or insoles for better support and warmth.
And PS custom insoles are an absolute must for everyone!!! they support your foot and make sure you whole leg is in the correct position also much more comfortable.
MAN I looove your video's!!! The first time I went skiing I hated it. My gf made me.. I was so pissed of. NOW I can't get enough of it. I am trying to learn as much as possible and you are one HELL of a teacher! "That's what my gaming world looks like". Spot on! :D And your tricks.. I always look so stupid when I try it. When you do it, you look like you don't even have to put any effort into it! :' )
I watch these videos eve tho im a snowboarder... Tons of your hacks are also usefull to us so thank you...also i just love winter sports and seeing ppl send the pow
If you dont have a fairly active lifestyle you can do series of lunges and squads everyday in the morning and evening. This will maintain and improve most of the vital muscle groups that endure all of the work when you go ski.
Dry Guy Boot Gloves are great for powder, especially on really cold days. At least a 10f temp bump. The only negative thing is they use a plastic pass through loop for the strap that can break if impacted. Last set I bought the loop broke on the 3rd day of use. I found a metal loop on line from some hardware supplier and replaced the plastic ones. Can't get them to fail now even if I wanted to.
Having a good backpack that lets you put your skis, poles, ice pick, etc. It will change your life and if you start doing backcountry skiing, well you can put all your safety avalanche kit in it
I have to say, synthetic stocks are dwindling in popularity but I stand firm in my preference of them over merino. I sweat a lot and prefer the dryness of synthetic over merino. Perhaps an upgrade such as a product that deals with stinky shoes?
Regarding boots you mention that booster strap was on its 3rd boot - just wondering how often you change boots? Could you do a video on boots, how often to change them, how do you know it's time to change? Reasons to upgrade etc? I plan to buy boots next year as I am relatively new to skiing, for now I'm renting, can footbeds go in any boot? Can I get a footbed made and use it in rented boots or are they boot specific ?
Got the same insoles when I got my scarpa maestrale rs. will consider using booster straps too! :) Powder baskets are a must for ski touring anyways. just got a new goggle from naked optics with a cat 1 and cat 2 lens and magnetic snap system for less than 100eur! :D
Sub-$100 upgrades that I'd go for: Good ski straps Boot/helmet backpack Boot Gloves (think neoprene covers for boots. Makes them super warm, only $30ish)
@@stevelalley6194 I used them on super wet / super cold days, most of my ski days were very long as I'm a patroller, so keeping feet warm and dry was a priority
I don't know why they cost him that much. I have the exact same ones for my normal shoes (I have flat feet) and I paid like 50 cents. Yes, I know my insurance company paid most of it but even if I didn't have one they would have costed me like 15€
I’ve bought some booster straps which I’m excited about. Only thing is my Salomon x pro 90 boots don’t have a screw I can undo to take the current power straps off. It’s a weird flat rivet- so annoying!! suggestions ?
My wife has those boots (loves them, BTW). You could grind the rivet heads off, but I think you would be fine if you just cut the factory strap off and drilled a mounting hole in the proper location for the Booster strap.
Thank you for this video. I swapped out my straps with Boosters. I had to drill out the rivets on my Fischer Ranger Walks, then pop rivet them back in. Took some time but looking forward to it this week because I get shin bang from being a little too aggressive for the old guy. What brand edge tuner do you prefer? Simplest?
wait what.
I'm in a process of buying my first ski boots and I have a question regarding the custom footbeds. I'm planning to go for one of the Fischer's vacuum models. Will a custom footbed also be a good idea since the whole boot is fitted to the foot as it is? Also, does anyone know of a place where a custom footbed can be made in Croatia/Slovenia, possibly Austria?
@@StompItTutorials tnx for the quick reply. Would it be a good idea to get the custom footbeds before purchasing the boots and trying the boots with the footbeds? Do you have any links for custom footbeds manufacturers/stores around Austria by any chance?
Put stickers on your helmet for +50 speed / swag
Dude that's great
Actual facts. Done this myself and it changed my life forever.
Helmet cover that looks cool for +500 swag points
It only works with cars tho 😂
Take your helmet off and but stickers on your beanie, true Chad move.

Rubber straps - one works, two ideal. Helps carry the skis, or just strap anything to anything in the field. Costs like $6 per.

They are also not cheap lol. $150 for a custom one here in the USA, state of Pennsylvania

Custom footbeds are the best skiing upgrade you'll ever do
I love your videos you are so inspirational
I actually used a pair of insoles from my hockey skates, they are moulded to my feet, use them in my ski boots. Feet feel great after a full day
Really like my footbalance custom soles. Gave a much better fit for my ski boot than the standard one
Got myself a pair of extrem skis. Best upgrade ever 🇸🇪
I've heard of this velcro thing you can stick on the outside part on the backside of your inner ski shoe. It makes you leen forward more

My best upgrade so far were customized ski boots it is way more comfortable while you have the same or even better controul over your ski
Not later then today I have seen one of such edge shaper in action in our local shopping centre. Nice gear indeed! And wool sox, man, good selection!
Enjoying the tons of snow in the northern alps rn? Great vid as always!
Getting custom soles and molding my liners is the best decision I have made in a long time, they are very well worth the price.
Where did you get the insoles ?thanks
Which booster strap do you have(Standard, Expert or World cup)? @Stomp It Tutorials
the booster strap 100% I have it on my racing boots amazing

Try to start with the backsquat. Best single full budy workout that strenghtens your knee muscles. There are many vids on yt.

Sidas footbeds have a rounded, rockered heel which causes the weight on your foot to shift inside the boot.
Boosterstraps andand these custom foot things for life!

Awesome gear tips. :-) Thanks buddy!
I have probem with glasses on bad visibility conditions, what kind protection for eyes do you recomend? Anythig in colors make me do not see.
How do you do a 1° base angle with this tool? I have a tool from 87-90° angle. I wonder how i can do the base? With the 90°?

Injinji Merino Wool toe (chicken) socks on Amazon. Easier to splay toes for balance.

Jens, which kind of booster strap do you recommend? I'm currently an intermediate skier just starting to hit jumps and bumps...
Excellent video! Are the boots you have with the new straps Salomon X Pro 100’s? If so, do you recommend them?
wait what.
How about some good ski wax?
Do you use the expert or wc booster? (Two or three layers)
I use my original straps inside the shell. Im riding a Full Tilt Classic. Is the boosterstrap worth the upgrade?
