    This has been the GREATEST confusion with many experienced (unsigned, nonunion) actors I know who've worked independent locally and regional on student/shorts/feature films and some TV ... trying to land a talent agent for commercials, TV, film, voiceover, music etc. as mentioned. Applying to everyone in Chicago, Miami, Dallas, CAN for representation, only to be 'informed' they live too far away for commercial work. Most who cannot afford to move or relocate for work right now. I've been SAG/AFTRA years ago signed in several areas. But it's all changed today. Thanks for opening the gates on this issue, esp with the WGA strikes at hand. Making things quite difficult and patient!

    4:15 Can we tell prospective agents that we are are okay working local hire for theatrical work? I know they are slower in production when compared to commercials.

    Now days with self tape it seems it would be easier for agents to get you auditions in other places.

    Hi Wendy! I'm a multilingual Italian actress living in Rome, Italy. My english accent is perfectly American and I can do British as well with no sign of my Italian origins. Although my agent is based in Italy he does have an international reach as I've been auditioning for various projects overseas. However, I've been suggested to look for and sign with a UK and US based agency as it would be better to have agents that are local. I've no intention to permanently move overseas at the moment as I think It would be best to build my credits in my home country first, but I'm available to work overseas and would have accommodations in London and various cities in the US. What do do you think? Should I look for rep in the UK and US? Would they even hire me given I'm not local and, although I could eventually apply for one, I don't own a Visa?
    Thank you for your time and effort Wendy, It is absolutely not taken for granted. You're a gem.

    This is exactly the issue I've been grappling with. I'm an older actress. I came out to LA from the east coast three years ago and immediately booked a national commercial, a meaty guest role in a soap, and got call backs for supporting roles in two Amazon Studios films. Then the pandemic hit and everything crashed. Like many actors I have now moved my home base out of LA (taxes/cost of living, homeless, masks, mandates, etc). I have an Airstream travel trailer, however, that would allow me to local hire for theatrical almost anywhere. (Not for commercials I realize). Moreover I'm building a custom home near Jackson with audition and audio recording space, which will be completed in May and may open up more work options. I'm not sure my LA agent can really promote me in other states (or wants to), and Wyoming is too small to field many agents here, so I need to find additional agents in other states. QUESTION: I don't have a manager, would a manager be able to locate out-of-LA agents to represent me and open up more options? Florrie J. Smith booked Yellowstone with an agent based in Albuquerque.

    Hi Wendy!
    I'm wondering about how to choose a manager and agent at first when I don't know anyone yet to know who would be the right fit and how would one handle changing their manager or agents without any hard feelings and without them even trying to sabotage you? this happened to someone I know hence why I'm afraid of making a wrong choice

      Acting class, do some local plays, make your own short videos and submit them to film festivals. Contact a school and take film classes or see if any students need an actor for their project and ask for a demo reel etc. once you have some experince, get headshots, audition for parts on actors access find ant other open casting calls. It's not hard to figure out. Hardest step is getting started.

      Start by taking acting classes
      and start to learn how to act - and see if you even like acting. You can start by taking acting classes online try Actorsite.com

    • @francinec2941
      @francinec2941 8 месяцев назад

      If you never taken any acting classes before, I would start with commercial classes first. If you don't have strong acting chops then more than likely if you get an agent they're going to start you with print and commercial, and gradually they may move you into television and film depending how strong your skills are in acting. There's Killian commercial class, there's Allison horncasting in Los Angeles

    Are there any legal resources to have someone look at a contract with a talent agency and see if it allows for finding work on your own or working with other agencies?

  • @TheAfterSeries

    For tv shows, do casting directors favor certain talent agencies when casting for roles? Just wondering, my agent says they submit me through an email, and then says “let’s hope they reply.” Is this how it works? Or does the agent need to put in a little more effort for their clients to get an audition? I’m learning, this is new to me.

    I know it’s been I while since you posted this video but here’s my question, I live in another country, although I can travel if I get a 2nd audition (I imagine nowadays the 1st auditions are more self-taped) there are agents who could get me only self-tape and if I pass the second stage of debugging I would travel , only for movies and series? I really want to start my carrier although I’m living in another country

    Do you need a local address to work in that market? If your legal address on your Driver's License is in Pennsylvania, but you would like to work as a local hire in New York, do you need to provide a NY address or is it fine as long as you're able to work there as a local hire? Thank you! :)

      Well managers and agents are paid whenever you get a job, so even if you have 1 or 5 I’m pretty sure the money you pay is always the same. You’ll pay 10/20% to them either way

    • @traveler7353
      @traveler7353 2 года назад

      @@carolinamilanesio6057 it's 10%, but what I'm saying is if you have projects lined up in different markets with different agents and mangers, the cost will catch up quick and will stress the actor out. It's best to have one agent and one manger in one market.
