Back in the late 90s, when my obsessions with JRPGs began, I found a newly translated rom of a game I had never played before: Final Fantasy V. I loved FF7, FF6, and FF4 so I played this immediately. I was blown away! The incredible job system, the fast, light hearted pace of the plot, young Tyler was in heaven.
Fast forward to 2012, where as a member of my university's VGM Ensemble I did a small group arrangement of “Mambo de Chocobo” (Uematsu’s arrangement of the chocobo theme for the series’ 5th installment.) I decided to do a slightly different take by alternating between the mambo feel of the original and swing on the bridge sections. This fall, as I updated this for my big band to record, I decided to also pay tribute to Tito Puente by quoting some phrases from his famous mambo “Ran Kan Kan”. Throughout the rhythm section grooves hard, buoyed by our drummer Jesse Myers and bassist Katie Blomartz. Yamaha flute artist (and Tyler Mire Big Band alumnus) Daniel Pardo dazzles with his spectacular solo phrases and high octave ensemble playing. After a send off (that references one of Final Fantasy’s most iconic jingles), esteemed jazz artist Luis Hernandez provides a captivating solo that takes the piece into a full band soli! The soli is TOUGH and the band just nails it! At the end we give our drummer, Jesse Myers a short vamp to solo over. The solo is truncated for the virtual venue, but on a live gig I could imagine this going on long! The last tutti stinger puts trumpeters Jason Levi and Micah Bell on the naughty list. Also make sure to stay till the end to hear Ian Calhoun’s incredible pedal G!
I hope you enjoy this arrangement, this was the most fun I’ve had in months. Kweh!

@@carolyn51care Love that tune! It was actually originally on my list of tunes to arrange, but the 8bit Big Band already did an awesome version of it. And I don't think the piece has a lot of range for how it can be interpreted.
"This VGM piece needs a jazz flute solo."
"How can that possibly work?"
"Amazingly well."
"I'm really not prepared"
Daniel Pardo, probably

This arrangement was really fun to play on! Thank you for having me, Tyler!!! ❤
Holy smokes! What an ensemble! This is an absolutely solid arrangement and performance from all involved!
Never has there been a flute solo more fire. Kweh Kweh!
So killing.
Such a joy working on this and hearing everyone's incredible sounds!
Omg this is my favorite chocobo theme. Amazing!!!!
Thanks! Looking forward to your FFII cover (unless it's already out... time to check)
@@TylerMireMusic (me in my head) HOW DID HE KNOW I WAS DOING THAT
(me 2 seconds later) oh yeah I posted it all over social media.
@@Harpsibored I think I saw it on the RUclips timeline a few days ago! Ff2 is still the only game in the first 10 I haven’t played yet. One day. Also, “kweh!”
@@TylerMireMusic Understandable, I just finished it for the first time recently. I highly recommend the PSP version btw. Beautiful graphics and music, plus additional dungeons!
Freaking amazing. Thank you all so much for this. So well made!
this is amazing.....
i just discovered your channel today.
and i'm also getting all the arrangements.....thanks for not hiding them behind a paywall....this is FIRE
I was legally obligated to watch this. It is absolutely awesome.
This is my favorite final fantasy tune, and this is now my favorite cover of my favorite final fantasy in my favorite style. That is a lot of favorites. Great job!
Kweh! Thanks!
OMG!!! Amaze. Literally floored. Wark! Woo-eee-hoo!
Man, that flute is so clean. Looking forward to the next one too! Kweh kweh!
Damn, this is quite the collection of skilled individuals. Well done everyone!
can't believe how good this is I am awe struck
Some excellent performances here !
This is absolutely incredible. The arrangement is neat how it switches between the straight & swung versions of the theme, and the performances were all fantastic. I love the inclusion of the victory fanfare too, that was a really fun touch
Thank you for the comment! I was looking at your channel and I love how the intro the Trails in the Sky battle theme is in your header photo. As I was sight singing it I was like.. "Wait this sounds familiar..."
Man, once again, too much fun! Thanks, buddy!!
Woah, this is crazy good! The standard of playing is through the roof, incredible job everyone!
Thank you so much! I have a few other videos, and the band slays in every track :)
this is just incredible. The mix, the arrangement, the players--everything comes together so well to make this the best version of jazz chocobo that i've ever heard. Masterful work here
Thanks for your kind words! The players played their asses off for sure, I can't take any credit for that. I appreciate the mix comment. Been spending last two years really trying to level up my mixes and improve.
This was tremendous. Easily one of the best vgm jazz arrangements I've ever heard. I hope your channel takes off dude! This was a blast.

Awesome!!
Way to be, Tyler!
So awesome
This might be the best arrangement of this track ever haha(What a sick collaboration). Nice work!
I agree!
Wonderful, as always.
Plus, I like how there's a Chocobo in every shot!
;)
Holy smokes, this was a wonderful arrangement and performance! I felt like I was at a theatre with a live jazz performance and everyone played through the complex arrangement perfectly!
Wonderful, dynamic and excact playing! Top Quality
Love all of your stuff! Phenomenal arranging and playing all around, per usual…
Thanks Jack! Glad to hear from ya
Good stuff :D Gotta love the hidden chocobos everywhere too
Great chart- great band!
heck yeah this was amazeballs - awesome job to all involved (and that flute solo 🤩)
also I spy some Chocobos throughout 👀
Ya, Daniel is one of the greatest flute players I’ve ever heard. Nice eyes on the Chocobo ;)
Fantastic arrangement and great playing by the band. Congratulations to Tyler and the band.
Oh man, this is just perfection. Excellent job to everyone involved!
Awesome as always! Keep raising the bar!
WOW! What an arrangement! Just fantastic performances all the way through, all expertly mixed too! Outstanding job!
Everything from arrangement to performance and mix is just so well executed, this is a fantastic work, all of my congratulations !!
Thank you! Feel free to check out the others in the series, the band is on fire!
@@TylerMireMusic I will ! =)
Such a fun arrangement! Excellent performances all around
Awesome cover!
Amazing, such quality! Very well done, everyone!
Great arrangement! HUH!!
Holy shit this is so good. Perfect song to listen on my way to wark!
Whistle while you wark!
Fantastic work, really fun arrangement and great playing all around.
AMAZING!! This was such a delight to listen to 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely fantastic!
Great job! I like how you used the Pixel Remaster of FFV for the video too.
Been replaying FFV (for the 100th time) using that version. It's not bad! Some of the new music remixes are really quite nice. I found it interesting that in a few of the shorter loops, they actually composed a few extra bars to help extend the loop
@@TylerMireMusic Sounds awesome. I got the mobile port on PC years ago, is it too late for a refund... better ask Gaben...
im picturing Tito Puentes on a chocobo
Killer arrangement Tyler!
Wonderful music, Tyler!!!
Thank you for blessing my chart, my friend! You sound so good it's annoying.
@@TylerMireMusic I concur! Beautiful sounds Daniel
@@TylerMireMusic anything for you, Tyler! And thank you for inviting me!! Much love to the whole band!
Great work! It's almost like you are a professional composer or something ;)
;)
1:45 solo intro sounds a good deal like Brecker's "Modus Operandy"...killer
Luis told me he used a Messian scale. I can’t remember the exact one, but he showed it to me once. It’s an odd symmetrical scale
Hi ! What a blast ! Nice work !!! I tryed to ask you by mail. I've seen the Score is avaible. Any chance to get the parts ? or the finale file to extract parts (if you work on it). I'd like to play this with my amateur Big Band. Thanks ! and great job again !
Great work as always! Your arrangements are solid and your mixes as very crisp and clean.
...that Boko tho :D
Know where I can get one?
Hoping that you get more attention after the insaneintherain shoutout :)
Hey Parker! Who knows. I need to make more videos...
I don't know what this video has to do with snakes but I like the visuals
Dude that's a mamba, not a mambo.
@@peterruibal6957 does ur nans know the difference?? Bazinga
@@zserv Sir, this is a Wendy's
I wanna ride my chocbo all day
Horn arrangements are far from count basic. Some parts are daring and fun as hell ! Sound is pretty impressively good for remote recording as well !
"Count Basic" haha love that. Should be a chart title
That was so fun to watch/listen to! Great work, my man! Next time get a better tenor player… 😉
The flute player is fantastic!
Not bad!
Great job Tyler! Can I audition for your sub list? :)
Yo Nick! Got a mic? I'm into it
is it possible to have the scores in musicxml or midi?
i'm having a difficult time getting any software to convert from pdf.
