Malaysia in the 70's had one of the strongest currency in Asia. I'm sure it was fantastic. Strong currency, large ample lands, strong govt and lots of resources. Will be much harder to go back to those days, I think given the changing nature of Malaysia's economic and social structure as well as external environment, it's kindda impossible. But, RM strengthening by 20% - 30% is possible in the coming years and Malaysia can position themselves to be like Taiwan of South East Asia. Not a big economy (Can't be considered a superpower or anything close) but, relatively wealthy hovering at US$20,000 - US$25,000 GDP per capita in 10 - 15 years time.
Hopefully the Malaysian are wise enough to see this, enough with the generation that only wants welfare help, we need the young hardworking smart malaysian generation.

sorry to pour the cold water down from head to toe but M'sia can never strive with just excelling in semi conductor sector. if the overall economy couldn't follow the pace fast enough then M'sia can never lock down their own talented people because unable to pay better salaries and they will go SG to earn SGD or other places that could offer a better deal. no matter how many talent the country can nurture, it is pointless if they're unable to secure it to be used by themselves. for example, this scenario is similar to iran that have plenty of oil underground but they're not capable to dig it up for their own use.

stock market booming doesn't mean the rakyat are happy and rich...only the rich will became richer....the poor will became poorer. Look at America...US stock market are on top of the world but the people mostly suffering, prices of housing and goods are triple since few years ago.....cheaper labor came from immigrants and more robots so less works for local people. so yeh the government will get more tax money if the companies and taikun didn't laundering the money or evade taxes but as we know in Malaysia there is a lot or dark economy or underground economy where these taikun and CEOs of big companies evading to pay taxes and try to scam the government because of the incompetents of SST system. Working class people and B20 people wont get any benefits at all unless the government give back the subsidies that they cut off just recently. upper-class and big business owners are gonna be booming but working class, farmers and self employed people which is the majority of Malaysian citizen wont get any long term benefits. This is just like America, seems like these new government want to emulate the economic system of full blown cutthroat capitalist like in USA which will destroy the country in the long run. The people will suffer in the long run.
