Please can you include in these videos the total price of spend in the supermarket for all the items you purchased? I know one portion maybe 99p but if I take 99p into a supermarket I would not be able to buy all the items I need. This would help a family on a budget also I believe you should purchase the cheapest items in the supermarket.
I like this series it i see it as more of a challenge of making 1 dish under 1 pound. I don't see it as serious as all ingredients cost more in the markets at all more so cool to see what you can create for under 1 pound. Keep it up.

hi barry!! I'm italian and i can say you did everything the right way!!! There is only one thing that in italy we would never do! The passata needs to bo cooked on the stove for at least 30 to 40 mins maybe with a good soffritto! :) Keep up the good work! i love your videos and your family!! Hugs
I have the feeling you just made giant gnocchi already 🙈 never seen anyone make them quite that big 😅 I usually just roll a long thin 'log' and cut that in to little gnocchi pieces. As for seasoning, you can also season the water with salt, just like you would with pasta and indeed you could get pretty creative with the sauce. All in all, this is a brilliant recipe to get a big batch of good food for very little money! If you are on a budget, you can also find loads of video's on how to food prep for a week or longer in advance, make big batches and freeze it for later use.
You get so excited! I love it! My picky husband will actually like this, thanks! More authentic but just as easy way to get the ridges on the gnocchi (it's so the sauce will cling better) flip the fork over so the curve is the other way. Place the gnocchi at the base of the fork then with your fingertip on the gnocchi gently roll up. That way you get the divot on one side & ridges on the other.

Those have to be the biggest Gnocchi I've ever seen...They almost are entering Potato dumpling stage! Those are big enough that you couldn't one bit them and would have to cut them up. But as long as it tastes good (and they definitly looked like it did!) and you enjoyed them, not really a issue! Loved the super simple recipe for the Gnocchi, I really am going try this out!

I worded it badly. I'd assumed gnocci was one of those things where you make pasta from scratch, and I've never managed to make edible pasta yet. I was banned from trying by the other half because she wants a kitchen that doesn't resemble a crime scene.

i once went to a valley in the north of italy and was fed Strangolapreti gnocchi, one of the best meals ive ever had to this day (the direct translation is "Strangling prietst"), it's gnocchi with spinach and nutmeg inside and topped with grated pecorino cheese
I've not had tinned potatoes for a number of years now, used to slice them up into discs and shallow-fry them 'til crispy and nice and have them in place of chips, cos, well, why not? :P
Love watching your cooking videos! You crack me up so many times! I am a Canadian Nonna of Italian heritage and one of my favourite things to do is make pasta and gnocchi. I agree with Almighty Aphrodite about the size of the gnocchi...mine are much smaller and we roll them down the fork so that the indentations are all around each one. Actually, I have a little gadget called a gnocchi board which makes this step much easier. You should check that out. Just one more thing...gn in Italian is pronounced like 'ny', so the pronunciation is actually 'nyochhi'.

I cook gnocchi in passata diluted with some water (I got it off the back of a packet of gnocchi) it does make them taste great. I might try putting them in the oven afterwards when I braise the tofu bratling (like a burger but square) and yes I am vegan and live in Germany

I've made gnocchi before, but only with fresh potatoes, and now I want to see if using tinned is a bit less of a PITA (using fresh ones, you're supposed to peel them *after* you boil them).
The best thing I think you can do with Gnocchi is, after you've boiled it, fry it in some butter on 1 or 2 sides. Makes the gnocchi fluffy in the middle and crunchy on the outside. Probably not traditional but so tasty!
I had an idea. Maybe you could collaborate with some of your subscribers from different places. We could send a video describing a dish our town or family is known for. You could cook the recipe after it's described and then enjoy cooking different recipes from all around the world.
I'd love you to recreate to a budget level not scrimping on flavour but cutting back on price of the traditional English winter meals. Like ( hot pot both Lancashire and Liverpool and Manchester version, sausage casserole, cobblers and how about some of the Welsh stews. UK has such a diverse selection of foods that are no longer being promoted. Also how about a traditional UK based Christmas food traditions because it always seems to be American based recipes that float about this time of year and UK have so many different tastes depending on graphical locations. Oh and maybe not time this year but how about recreating Christmas party food on a budget, coping the stuff supermarkets charge the earth for like m&s charging £5 for a box of party food beans on toast. I'm convinced next year if you did that you'd get to s of new views to that series. Love your videos and yes I've done the various ours and hours of barrithons so I'm now up-to-date. Thank you for hours of laughs and informative info you've saved me money on useless gadgets I would of hot as a sucker and the stuff I have bought like the Apple corer/paper/slicer is literally used daily it's amazing and my son now eats so many apples. Yeah I think keeping them small was important for me, almost too much if they are huge and I definitely wanted to make sure there was no medium rare gnocchi going on!

You can do flat bread from the left-over pastry. Just flatten it, ounch some holes with fork and fry it in the oven for 8-10 min in 300°C.

We made gnocchi once. We didn't rest it enough, and had too much extra flour on top, and ended up too gluey. We enjoyed them nonetheless though.
Yeah I think keeping them small was important for me, almost too much if they are huge and I definitely wanted to make sure there was no medium rare gnocchi going on!
@@mrbarrylewis if you're making a giant gnoccho, do try to have some msg or pepper or cheese in the middle, you'll need the extra complexity. Maybe make it with some hung curds or indian unsweetened khoa if you can get it there?

I know one portion maybe 99p but if I take 99p into a supermarket I would not be able to buy all the items I need.
