I'm all for discussing hard topics in a history class, but I don't know if Nikole Hannah-Jones' first essay in 2019 provides full historical accuracy. Were there not anti-slavery revolutionaries? What about Benjamin Rush? He opposed slavery and advocated for free public schools. Was he not a signer of the Declaration of Independence? I hope the current 1619 Education does not omit these important details.
This was so well put together and a really helpful way to pitch implementing the curriculum.
