When I was nineteen old, I was struck by a passage from Forkel's biography on Bach, published in 1802, from which it appeared that the great man achieved a huge expression with very small movements of hands and feet only. Ever since this had been a guideline for my musicianship and now-after more than forty years of practicing-Forkel's observation is the starting point for ”The Art of Playing the Organ". Je suis fasciné par la personnalité de l'individu. Au siècle précédent, il n'a jamais douté dans un monde où tout portait à croire qu'il s'effondrerait sur lui-même! Tout son travail est comme la première lumière du crépuscule. C'était de son vivant le reproche qu'on lui faisait. Sa musique, sous des aspects sombres et diaboliques, a été entièrement composée à la gloire du Christ, et il en a beaucoup souffert ;( Dieu ne reste cependant qu’un simple concept pour moi, mais j'admire et vénère les chants des hommes dont il est l'inspirateur!
