These things are common in Ancient teachings, of the high level Chinese combat arts. However... as time has passed, many people have lost the importance of the fine details. For example.. a lot of artists, do not fully master things like the proper breath control during movements. They do not think its that important... and so when they Teach the art to someone else... they do not teach, nor discipline the students.. to have proper synced breaths during their movements. Eventually, the technology gets lost, due to lack of mastery, and complete Ignorance.
Many things have also been lost to poor translation.. especially between languages. For example... Chinese use the word "Chi" as a short description word, to replace a very long and complex subject worth of descriptions. Chi is not some invisible energy. Its a physical development. If you had done Iron Body training for many years... and can take a hit that would destroy most people... then the master would say that you had excellent "Chi". That relates to things like superior circulation (bloodflow), higher oxygen levels, stronger and denser tissue and bones, and greater overall bodily strength + precision movement control... and much more. So it refers to both the movement quality, as well as the changed body type.
Since many of these things are not visible to the naked eye... Meaning, you can not visibly see that I have Iron Body capability just by looking at me... they call such things "Internal Arts". As most of the differences, are inside of the body. Also, if someone from an External Art tried to copy the movements on an Internal Art... they might look exactly the same to the outside observer... but their strength, vectors, and other attributes, would be vastly different. That is because the Internal arts artist, does special things inside of their bodies... that are not seen... that drastically changes the way the technique works, feels..etc. While the external arts may have some similarities... the differences then, are also in the full mastery of every fine little detail. These tiny details, can add up to a increases in strength, power, speed, and precision... that far outclass the typical artists output potentials. For example... the proper breath while doing a movement sequence, can result in up to 40% more power.

I think it’s great that you’re adding many different subtitles, as both a martial artist and a language enthusiast.
And you find the same principle in JKD, because it’s science based.
“Hand before foot, always” to transmit all of your bodyweight behind your straight lead, or any strike.
As well as efficiency of movement, and the centerline

At the 15:45 mark Nakano Sensei demonstrates a movement where center of gravity is being moved to Getanden. Back in 1985 Dr. Shukumine came to visit Uchida Sensie's school in Atlanta. I was maybe a green belt at the time. Dr. Shukumine demonstrated this position, but I never really understood the purpose of the exercise. We would lean all the way forward while raising the leg and hold it in that position for a while. I just remember feeling the blood rush to my head. Because Dr Shukumine didn't speak English and Uchida Sensei was translating for him - I may have missed understood the purpose of the exercise. I thought it had something to do with breathing and energy (ki) movement. That was the one and only time we performed this movement.

Althrough very different, I see some similarities with Silat here: lower-body postures and guard (e.g., pasang), movements along the diagonals (e.g., pola langkah zig zag; segi tiga), hand cover with the hand crossed on the opposite side of the face, parries with hands crossed (i.e., right hand protecting the left side and left hand protecting the right side). Very interesting.

Is it true of Silat, that they attack everything on the centre line?

    • @PascalSaysset
      @PascalSaysset 2 года назад +2

@@akashurikenwhile we recognize that protecting our center line is of utmost importance, we focus on attacking sensitive and vital points in a flurry of attacks just to make sure that if the first strike is a miss, only one successful hit will take our opponent down nonetheless.
We have no qualm hitting any of these points whether they are in the center line or not. The shortest distance to one of these is often the preferred option.
And we try not to stay right in front of the opponent precisely because we want to protect our center and be less exposed to attacks while still being able to hit vital or painful areas.

This teachers knows, and does... what Used to be taught in ALL Combat arts. High level precision, and full Mastery, of every single detail / attribute. It shows in the Quality of his movements. Faster, more precision, and more Power... in every single movement / sequence.
When the larger Karate man tries to replicate these movements... he clearly struggles. Not because of his lack of experience in this art. But because his entire root foundations.. have never been fully mastered. Every little flaw, is a loss in power, speed, accuracy, and control. And when you are sparring / fighting (under pressure), at full speed... each flaw will be amplified in magnitudes... and the end result, will be many mistakes, and sloppy technique, that could lead to a very quick and easy defeat.

Rich comment, coming from someone with "Cosplay" in their user Id! >_< Im trained in multiple arts, including some of the highest level Chinese combat arts, with 28 yrs of hardcore training, teaching, and full contact sparring (including against so called "Modern" MMA fighters). What this man is teaching, is extremely relevant to ALL martial arts, that actually want to reach Masterclass level performance, in their Techniques.
While certain specific movements might not be the same between these arts... the root foundations are the same, as what is shown here. The problem, are Ignorant people like yourself... that are clueless about these fine details. That are too lazy, to fully master what they were taught... and so unconscious and so Egotistical, as to think that these details do not actually matter.
Let me tell you... that I can hit or kick at about double the power, that most artists are capable of... Because I actually spend the time and efforts, to FULLY master myself, in these foundations. Not only that... But I can do every movement with 100% of my potentials, Every single time.. with no variances, even while under the pressure of heavy/full contact sparring matches. Unlike most artists, for example.. that have a punch with 80% on it... and then their next punch.. is more like 70%...etc.
While this art seems to be Sportized (which is common in most modern day arts... including MMA training)... it still has its high technology roots, kept in tact. They are applicable to all arts, and all techniques. And furthermore... they USED to be part of all of these arts ORIGINAL NON CORRUPTED teachings. They have largely been lost, due to both laziness, and Ignorance.
