After watching Chris Rock's Good Hair documentary, I can tell you - we women have an intimate connection to our hair. I would encourage every woman toward her natural beauty and lightly highlight your natural features. It's going to be different for each woman, but that brings out the beauty in all of us. ❤

In general, fillers and botox will also create further dependency on more intervention. Aging naturally is far much better. This seems to be the theme. We women need to get back to natural and hold ourselves and women around us to this standard. ❤ Love what God created.

Loved your take on this🫶🏽 I’m learning to embrace my differences which shows diversity! It’s actually a very beautiful thing to have so many different kind of people with different features, it shows the beauty in the Lords creation. It’s been a journey for me embracing my own uniqueness but the older I get, the more I see it clear as day that there is beauty in diversity.

5 years ago I loc’d my hair because I felt very strongly about accepting what is God-given. I wore my loose natural hair for a period of my life, but the maintenance was not my preference. I’ve loved my locs since the first day I installed them and feel proud of the journey.

I have an 11-month-old, so the baby noises don't bother me at all. I find them nice. I love hearing little ones in the background. On this topic, I really actually have a bit of a different experience. I have always felt pressure to figure out how to do the conventional beauty thing. I am terrible at makeup and maintaining fake nails is just not my thing. Every time I have ever gotten weave or anything, I've just missed my hair. But I've always wished I was the kind of girl who did those things/was good at them. I've told my husband on many occasions that I feel like such a plain woman compared to others. This video made me consider a different perspective.

First off, you look amazing!!😍 Giving off effortless and glowy🩷 The shorter curly hair looks SO good to me as well!I’ve always been more of a less is more type of girl. And I truly believe if more women learned to embrace and nurture whatever they had naturally, they’d actually FEEL and look better physically. I do feel that the excessive makeup/heavy lashes, lace fronts (which always look unnatural to me) blinds someone of appreciating who God designed them to appear like. Does this mean that if you enjoy these things you’re automatically insecure ? No. That depends on your own conviction. If one felt similar to the way the woman in the video did after stripping off the extras, then yes that’s a problem. I really think of God as the greatest potter. Every feature is fit for us! I believe this explains why when people make certain cosmetic changes (adjustments to their nose, chin, eyes etc) they are still unhappy. Our original features are superior. God already made us right and whole. We have to operate in that.

Hit the nail on the head! I agree completely and I mentioned ethnic nose jobs and how it doesn’t look harmonious when taken too far and too small because you wouldn’t see it in nature but I took that part out 😅 your curly cut is so cute and fits your face perfectly😍 and thank you! That was also the timenI became a new born again Christian so I stopped wearinf fake stuff too. Being more natural feels so good. You really discuss great topics Gwen! I have worn wigs for years and it’s taken a toll on my natural hair. I started back going to the salon for silk presses to begin wearing my natural hair more with extensions. Now I’m taking the initiative to do my own natural hair and learn how to replenish it. My hair has been through alot because I didn’t see it as beautiful and I think the older I get the more natural beauty is more beautiful. I even wear less makeup to enhance my natural beauty more. It’s a shame how the mass media can persuade you into thinking your own beauty is good enough.

I’ve given up on my hair. When I was younger, my dad forced our mom to give us relaxers. He would yell if we didn’t have one. I tried to go natural in high school but my dad would insult me and say I didn’t have good hair like my mom. Then when I got to college, I started pulling my hair as a nervous tick. I ended up with a bald spot bc of that. I shaved my hair twice to try to regrow my hair evenly but each time I ended up with a bald spot right at the crown and front of my head.
I hate my hair and I’ll probably be wearing weave for a long long time. Thankfully my BF understands and doesn’t make me feel bad. You don’t know how many times I heard “just stop pulling”. He’s allowing me to figure it out at my own pace.

There is also another side to this that we don’t talk about. You are a very fair skinned black woman, with loose natural hair who is married to a white man with a biracial baby. There is a lot of societal privilege wrapped into your life as opposed to a black woman who is constantly judged and ridiculed for her deeper skin tone and tighter curl pattern. Also, I see you still straighten your hair which is not your natural pattern. (Not saying this is negative, but pointing out
something that someone else can deem as “artificial.”)
It just makes me wonder how much we don’t discuss how much influence Eurocentric beauty standards have pressured us black women. I’m so tired of it. 😫 Why don’t most of us feel beautiful with shrinkage and curly/ coily hair vs long straight hair? Maybe it’s a deeper issue….
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. 💕

    • @Offthebeatenpath.
      @Offthebeatenpath.  10 месяцев назад +8

Great points! These are up my alley and I may not talk about it on here but in my real life I talk about how society is influenced by Euro beauty standards A LOT🤣 I have been going down a rabbit hole and digging deeper to find out the root cause of why I even straighten my hair. I think for me it’s been a process(little by little peeling back layers) and the first step which was HUGE for me was giving up weave. Honestly I think a lot of it has to do with brainwashing because It’s really weird. When I started wearing my natural hair it was always white people(hubbie included) who said they preferred it curly and black women who said they prefer my hair straight which I thought was weird. It’s interesting really and a deeper issue. From the talks I have IRL I don’t think the euro influence will go away. I think it’s up to us to showcase the Lords diversity and embrace the diversity. That’s starts with not covering it up or even straightening it(talking to myself too🥹) I think the Lord has been dealing with me in this area and Lord willing I will start embracing my curly hair more and learning how to manage it so it’s not high maintenance.
Also, I know you probably think my curls are loose but I don’t think so 🤣I have very much so kinky/tight curly hair. And to the privilege, maybe there is but also I think sometime it’s what you make of it too. Straight hair isn’t the only long hair, tight coily hair can be long, it doesn’t have to be short unless it’s your style. One of my fav hair girls is Patrice Marjorie, she has beautiful type 4 hair that she tends to and has long hair because she’s taken care of it. She is also brown skin and rocks her natural hair and she’s gorgeous!
I’m not against artificial, clearly I have poly gel nails on, I just think if you want to wear things take care of what’s underneath and don’t neglect it!

Suntegrity tinted moisturizer(love hate with them because they only have like 5 shades 🙄 BUT it has worked wonders for my skin. It is very sheer so it won’t cover bumps but when your skin clears it will be a nice glow)
RMS Beauty or Crunchi for full coverage foundations
      I use Hynt Beauty concealer
      Au Naturale concealer
Gabriel cosmetics for blush and liners
And 100% pure also ha amazing products from what I’ve heard!
